This place charges an extra gratuity surcharge on takeout food. We’ve definitely been to better Mexican restaurants and none of them charge extra money on take out. This is absolutely ridiculous and we won’t be back.

Best Mexican restaurant on the westbank hands down. The food is amazing, especially the ground beef, and brisket tacos. Their steak fajita plate and brisket quesadillas are spectacular. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful and the food is a veritable feast that will never leave you disappointed.

This place is our favorite Mexican restaurant. The brisket tacos are phenomenal. Everything is just so good. We come here every week. Everybody is nice and efficient. Yall should get the fajita skillet and big brisket quesadilla. Highly recommend!

Only tried the street style tacos and they are solid ! The brisket (suadero) ones were succulent/juicy and near as good as Tia in Metairie at half the price, the browned corn tortillas were the best in the city, also they had some sautéed onions surprisingly that added another layer of flavor. The Carnita taco was ok but not as braised with crispy ends as much as I prefer. Good service good pricing, nice atmosphere ftw

Great lil spot next to China Pearl. Interior is beautifully decorated. Great selection on the menu. Decent prices and the food is delicious. Cheese dip is a must. Birria tacos are excellent and my son loved the carne asada quesadilla. Will def be goin back to try all the different items.

I order from here through Uber Eats and EVERY time, this restaurant forgets something. This time it was a large cheese dip. The last 2 times it was large guacamole. I must add that my orders are not small and cost over $100 each time. They offered me to go there and pick up what they forgot to give the delivery driver, or I can get the missing item the next time I order. That will be impossible because I will not be giving them my business ever again.

My wife has gluten allergies so this is our go to spot for tacos. Close to home and everyone is so nice. Great tacos and their salsa is amazing. Once a week at least we go for tacos. Great location, great prices and even better staff.

Delicious fajita meat and veggies in a light and flaky taco shell. It was fantastic! Our service was great! Will definitely be back soon.

Taco salad to go without salsa. Cheapskates when it comes to providing adequate salsa for chips and salsa for to go orders. However, if you sit in a restaurant you’ll get a 24 oz cup of complimentary salsa and refillable chips. Meanwhile after calling manager, she rudelyhang up the phone in your face.
They want you money but they have poor soft skills. If you make a complaint or concern after paying additional money for salsa that you never received. Whoever, heard of a taco salad with hard white lettuce , no cheese, and no salsa but provides guacamole and sour cream.
Go to Las Maracas or Los Amigos if you want real customer service and great atmosphere. Family owned and always delivers. Facts

Just Great—Actually Love This Place!
We live in Gretna, but honestly, Tacos El Rey is so worth the drive—even if you’re coming from Michoud to Kenner. It’s become one of our absolute favorites!
The atmosphere is exactly what you want in a casual Latin restaurant: welcoming, lively, and never over-the-top. The service is consistently on point—friendly, attentive, and never pretentious. You feel like you’re part of the family the moment you walk in.
As for the food? Delicious. Every dish we’ve tried hits the mark, and the drinks are just as good. Plus, the prices are incredibly reasonable for the quality you get. It’s that rare combo of great vibes, great flavors, and great value.
We gladly skip several spots near home to come here instead—and every time, we leave full, happy, and already planning our next visit.
