I’m a little biased when restaurants have good, unique vegetarian dishes, so I got real excited when I saw a “Walnut Chorizo Burrito.” The dish itself absolutely surpassed what I was hoping for. I mean, who thinks of walnuts to replace chorizo filling? A dang genius, that’s who. I’m sure the chopped yo walnuts marinate for a while, cus they have an overall soft chew to them, but every now and then you find a slightly crunchy walnut, which I think makes the whole experience more fun – think ‘finding a curly fry in your basket of regular fries’
I haven’t spent time in the building besides to pick up my food, but it looks spacious and well taken care of. Going there for a birthday dinner in a few days so I’ll report back in the atmosphere.

Hard to find good burritos here in Springfield so I was so happy to find this place! If you like spice then ask for the habanero salsa… it’s fire! All around solid food.

This restaurant is part of the Public House eatery group – a place we’ve always enjoyed. I ordered the Barbacoa Quesadilla for $14 at the Tonalli Latin Kitchen stand. We received what looked like a worn out wash rag soaked in oil. Clearly, cheese is greasy, but this was swimming in oil. Hoping it would at least taste good, I was again disappointed. There was not a shred of anything green inside, just greasy, cheese and unflavored meat. By the time I got back home I felt sick.

The burrito bowl was tasty but for $14 you get about 1 cup of food….at least give me enough rice to fill the bowl you serve it in. Would not order from here again.

Extremely Disappointing Experience
Tonalli’s is one of the four food vendors at Public House, and unfortunately, they were the only one of three with a 45–60 minute wait—despite a busy but not overwhelming crowd. My family had already finished their meals from other vendors by the time my $28 single burrito, chips, and salsa finally came out, nearly 30 minutes after I ordered.
The staff showed zero sense of urgency. Some were even casually eating in the back kitchen while orders piled up. When I expressed my frustration, I was met with excuses and a patronizing tone instead of any accountability or apology.
This was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had at Public House. Unless there’s a major shift in attitude and operations, I don’t see Tonalli’s lasting more than a few months. I would give zero stars if I could.
