Reviews
I’d dropped in about 3:30 pm a couple of weeks earlier and everything in the buffet was old and overcooked. The naan (I love good naan) was in a warmer, and it was dreadful. It had collapsed completely (about 1/8th of an inch thick) and was as floppy as uncooked pizza dough, but thinner.
So I figured today I’d arrive at a time when the kitchen had time to get everything out on display.
What a disappointment! The naan was the same awful naan I’d had before, in it’s steel covered container where it had already sweated and turned back into a soggy mess.
Suggestion: cook smaller quantities and put the naan out in a basket where it will stay crispy.
All of the meat dishes tasted like the meat had been over-cooked in a pan, then tossed into the sauce that have the dish its name. It didn’t have to wait a further 3 hours in the warmer: every meat was already overcooked.
Ambience? Loud clangy Bollywood through really dreadful tiny speakers. Some older ladies asked for the music to be turned down, but as soon as they left, the volume went up again.
I’m still sampling dishes, and I’ll finish this review when I’ve finished my sampling.
What a stroke of luck! The kitchen delivered freshly-cooked naan just now, and I got a piece totally fresh. It had a slightly crisp surface layer, but it was undercooked by my standards.
Naan continues to develop after the end of cooking. The crust crisps up more, it cools rapidly, and it should keep its bubbly texture (the crust helps this happen).
But this naan was immediately put into a closed stainless steel container where it will be a sweaty mess within 5 minutes. It will lose all its structure and have no crust at all.
I mentioned the issues with the food to the staff. Their sauces are delicious. If there chef can improve his naan management and stop overcooking the meat, and do something about the music, this place would have a much bigger clientele.
I show the naan in a photo. It’s soft and about the thickness of a dinner plate.
Pros: Nice restaurant, has potential, probably a good place to host a small gathering. Friendly lady greeter. Good plaza location
Cons: Really disgusting buffet today! Not much variety, you can tell it was frozen fish pakoras warmed up, doughy naan that stretches when you pull it apart, very cold mixed vegetable sabji, so much turmeric on the 1 piece of tandoori chicken that I ate, my fingers and teeth became stained (washed 9 times at the restaurants dirty bathroom and still barely came off). Only other protein provided was chicken curry and goat curry, both I was not brave enough to try do to how it looked. My wife and I ate 1/2 of our 1st plate and left. I currently feel sick and nauseous. Please do better, improve your quality of food. Cant believe I donated $28 to this place.
I noticed in the reviews that some people noted that prices were on the higher side. I would say that the prices were reasonable, especially considering time, special ingredients, and preparation techniques they have to use to make some of their dishes. To me, it’s worth it as it’s not something I can whip up at home and judging by the way everything tasted – these guys really take pride in their food, culture, and their business. Best Indian food restaurant in Sac and Roseville area!
The restaurant doesn’t have the best of the ambience. Their music system was bad/ irritating. Their restrooms are in a really bad state.
But the chef inside is killin’ it. Food was amazing. We ordered Chola Bhatura. It was one of the biggest Bhatura. And it was super tasty as well.
Perhaps more suitable for Doordash. BayArea restaurants should learn from this one.
