It all started with a promise and from there it was built on a vision. Gaetano Gravino was a hairstylist who had found part time work at a doughboy shack in Oakland Beach. This part time work turned into an opportunity that spoke to his entrepreneurial spirit – the same spirit that lives on in his wife and children: Sally, MaryAnn, David, and Guy. When the chance came to lease the establishment, Gaetano and his wife Sally took it. And in 1989, Iggy’s Doughboy and Chowder House was born – coined after a nickname given to him by his son, David. The featured dish at the time was the red chowder – the recipe a family secret created by Sally herself.

Tiny spot with a walk-up window for donut holes, fried seafood & burgers to eat at picnic tables.

We visited Iggy’s on a Gloomy Wednesday Afternoon. It was a cool day but nice enough to sit outside on the lunch benches by the water — however the seagulls said otherwise, so we headed in. We got a small smorgasbord lol. Starting with the calamari, I loved it with the banana peppers, gave a nice tang. It had a nice crunch but not hard or chewy, pretty perfect. The curly fries were great, seasoned well but not too salty. We were shoveling them in. The stuff quahog was nice, neither of us had tried it before — the meat to filling ratio was welcomed, glad we didn’t get mouthful of breadcrumbs. Finally, the lobstahhh rolls. So we got the ones with butter, not sure what style that is. I’d give them a 5/10.. definitely not the best we’ve had in NE. Pretty plain, no real flavor and a little chewy. The star of the meal I’d def say was the calamari and stuffed quahog. And of course we couldn’t go to Iggy’s w/o getting the doughboys (not pictured) we got them with cinnamon sugar and they were DELICIOUS!

Went there to try RI style clam chowder which is different from New England one. Ordered Clear Clam chowder (Rhode island style), clam cakes, hot lobster roll and Rhode island style friend caramari. Clam cakes are so puffy and soft, Must to eat! Clear clam chowder were delicious too but too much potatoes, barely any clams. Hot lobster rolls have big pieces of lobster but kind of basic and plain, I would not order again. RI caramari was as expected.

Great place to come walk around enjoy the beach, take a few pictures and enjoy a lobster roll. I personally the hot lobster roll over the cold as many of the flavors come out naturally. I loved the natural taste, no mayo, no fillers and only leaf of lettuce for looks. It is the most affordable and best tasting lobster roll I ate while being in Rhode Island.

The white sauce clam chowder was also a big hit.

Baked scallops were exceptional. Fish and chips and grilled swordfish good as well. Chowder good, just not as buttery and creamy as I like

The young lady ringing up our food was very nice, our food was hot and tasty. The wings were crunchy even being sauced. Big hit, the Bisque and clam chowder also very good.

I recently had the chance to dine at Iggy’s Clam Cakes and Chowder in Rhode Island, and it was a delightful experience! The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, perfect for a laid-back meal by the beach.

The clam cakes were a highlight—crispy on the outside and packed with fresh clams inside, they were simply irresistible. Pairing them with their rich and creamy chowder was a match made in heaven. Each spoonful was filled with flavor, and you could really taste the quality of the ingredients.

The service was friendly and efficient, making the experience even better. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, Iggy’s is definitely a must-try for anyone who loves authentic Rhode Island seafood. I can’t wait to return for more of those delicious clam cakes! Highly recommend!

The best new England chowder we’ve had so far. Pick up your order, find a bench and enjoy your meal by the beach watching the sunset. A great experience!

I got my first ever lobster roll here, which was delicious! The roll was perfectly buttery and toasted, but there wasn’t a good ratio of filling to roll so I scooted most of it to 3/4 of the roll and used the rest of the roll to dip in my red clam chowder. The chowder was more potato chowder than clam chowder, as I didn’t taste much for clams, but it was still tasty and hit the spot on a cold, snowy day.

We wanted to sample the local fare, and we heard good things about Iggy’s. We went as a group and tried the fish and chips, clam chowder, clam cakes, and the dough boy’s. The white clam cost was like potato soup and was good, the red clam coffee was more like a stew and it was okay. The clam cakes tasted better dunked in the chowder. The dough boy had a sweet flavor similar to a donut, which was tasty. There was a long line the entire time we were there. It took about an hour to get our food due to how busy they were. They had tables outside so you could wait at them.

This has been a place I regularly visit. Since coming to Warwick, today was the first time I had a bad experience.
I ordered from the lunch special menu and sat at the bar. Everyone sitting next to me was served water and bread. As you know, this restaurant’s bread with butter is amazing. However, I was not served any. I placed my order, and it arrived very late. I understand that lunchtime can be busy. I asked for water and bread and waited about 15 minutes. I reminded the bartender again, and it came about 10 minutes later.
My main course was also served very late. Since I had somewhere to be, I asked if it could be packed to go. The main course came already packed. The bartender asked if I would continue eating it. Because I couldn’t take it with me, I said no, and it was thrown away. I didn’t take the dessert either and asked for the check.
My point is this: at any restaurant, if you can’t finish your lunch or if your order is delayed, you should at least be able to take your food with you. Not allowing that makes no sense. Unfortunately, I will not be returning. I just wanted to share my experience.
