Really good buffet with comfort food that sticks to your bones! They also have a great selection of pies. My favorite is the pecan pie. It’s so rich and tasty. The fried chicken is great, so flavorful and the chicken skin is crunchy and delicious. I thought the salad bar was very fresh- no brown pieces of lettuce hanging around. The service was friendly too.

I had their fried chicken for lunch. The breading was tasty and the dark meat pieces were moist. Unfortunately the breast piece was somewhat dry. The mashed potatoes were delicious. My wife had a calm salad and she said it was wonderful she’s going to get another meal or two out of the leftovers!

Drove down to Yoder’s for some meats and cheeses, and before leaving Shipshewana we decided to stop at Blue Gate and get something to eat before hitting the road. This place is huge! When you walk in there is a restaurant, a gift shop, a bakery, and even a banquet hall! Thankfully it was big enough to get us right in on a day that they were very busy. Our waiter was great. He came to our table with a huge smile while he introduced himself and gave us some bread with Amish peanut butter and apple jam. I wasn’t sure if I should go with the recommended Amish sampler or the burger. Thankfully I went with the burger and it was amazing! The meat was fresh and was of good quality. It was cooked perfectly. Very juicy and flavorful. Over all it was every well put together burger. 100% recommend!

This was our second visit to the Blue Gate restaurant. We drove one hour and 18 minutes to eat here; it’s that good. It’s delicious home cooked food with extremely generous portions. When we both ordered the Amish Sampler, our waitress wanted to know if we were sharing the entree. We didnt understand why she asked us that question until our food arrived. There was enough food for three meals! We boxed up 2/3rds of the dinner because we had to save room for a slice of strawberry rhubarb pie. We could have shared that too, but we each got our own slice. Good service, good food and a lovely gift shop and bakery. A wonderful destination for a great meal.

Absolutely fabulous, everything we tried was delicious including the sampler, chicken and noodles, cod, and multiple slices of pie. Even the apple butter on the table was really good with our bread! It was also fairly reasonably priced.

First time here and we were very impressed with the selection. Nice salad bar, plenty of hot food on the buffet, and expensive dessert choices. Ten different kinds of pie plus other dessert choices and ice cream!

Service was excellent, drink glasses were never empty. The whole restaurant is immaculatly clean. The landscaping outside is absolutely beautiful and the size of the interior is overwhelming. Average food, not seasoned or flavorful. For the price of a buffet, I thought the selection of food was quite small. Desserts were good. There is also a full menu restaurant as well. Wouldn’t return.

Smaller selection Amish style buffet..which is nice. The food is plentiful and very well prepared. The desert section is pretty amazing. the fresh loaf style thick cut bread was excellent. Our server was Sharon, she’s excellent and had a pleasing personality.

We ate in the downstairs dining area for the buffet. Good old fashion food. So tasty and comforting. Some of the desserts tasted “old”. The textures were kind of “tacky” in texture. Giving that been out too long taste. But everything else was amazing! We love coming before any of our shopping trips to shipshewana. I believe they are so much better than Essenhaus. More friendly and less commercialized. The bakery at Blue Gate is top notch!!! We always leave with a pie and some of their butter caramels!!!

Food was just ok. I had meatloaf, chicken and beef sampler.
The chicken was good. I feel like my meatloaf i cook was better. The meatloaf didnt have a good consistency. Kind of mushy. The wait was about 70 minutes for the buffet and 40 for the restaurant.
