My personal favorite for Mexican food. The flavors, the spice, the sides and the drinks are the definition of comfort food. I like to get their carne asada tacos & sopes with a side of rice or their chicken enchiladas. My friends love their Birria Tacos with the dip. The picture is a sopes & taco. They have multiple locations so that Mexican comfort food and hospitality is never far away.

Sometimes you need a good carne asada burrito in your life, and I got just that! It made my afternoon! The staff was super friendly, and the food was yummy! I asked for the rice and beans on the side, rather than in my carne asada burrito, and they accommodated me with no questions asked. They also have a really nice salsa bar! I am just sorry I haven’t tried this place sooner!

The reviews are honestly shocking, but I suppose you have to know what to expect when dining in or ordering here in general.
If you’re looking for americanized “Mexican” food like Plaza Azteca, Mi Hacienda, or Tex Mex, this is not the place for you. If you’re looking for that authentic, hangover cure type, and abuelita kind of Mexican food, then this is the place for you.
The elote is by far one of the best in Richmond and prepared just as if you were ordering one in Mexico City.
The Sopes, Tortas, and Birria Tacos are also very delicious and again, very authentic.
This is not your average sit-down restaurant- you must order at the counter, pay, and then your food will be delivered when it’s ready. However, I’ve never had a bad experience and everyone there has been super nice and welcoming. By far one of the best places in RVA/Midlo to eat authentic Mexican food (coming from a 1st gen Mexican-American).

Amazing food! Like many other reviews I can definitely say that any negative review about this place was probably left by someone who doesn’t like real authentic mexican cuisine. I got the chicken torta and it was hands down the best torta ive ever had in my life. Cant speek for much else but 10 out of 10 would recommend the tortas.

There’s a group of 10-15 of us who dine out every Friday night. We are always on the lookout for new places to eat so we were excited to visit El Chido. (The Cool)
Every year, 4 of us of spend 2-3 months on the west coast of Mexico, so we are well versed in the authenticity of Mexican fare.
I ordered Al Pastor. I should have asked for extra pineapple, because I could barely find any. The tacos were tasty, but the preparation was derived from a region I’m not familiar with. No cilantro, nor onions…. pretty good, but not like a good street taco. Between everyone, orders ranged from Pozoli, to Burritos, to Tortas to specials. Most diners were “ok” with their choices.
A couple of people said the pork in their taco or burrito was under cooked, so they set it aside.
Elote was DELICIOUS and the homemade chips are addicting. The Horchata was impressive.
Staff was friendly and the meals were delivered in a timely manner. We like that you go up to the register to order. With a large group this works great because we don’t have to worry about check splitting.
We will definitely go back another time and give El Chido another try.

I am a big fan of the other locations so was super excited when one opened closer to home. We’ve eaten twice here, once dine in and once take out. Both times the food was excellent quality. I think I say I want the Nachos Rancheros at least 4 times a week.

I mean, look at this burrito. I’m 6’7 and 260 pounds and I could barely finish this. That was about halfway through my meal and I took that pic. Chipotle fried burrito al gusto with Carne Asada. It had the right amount of spice (salsa poured over it too). You walk right up to the register and order your food. You can get a number and sit or take it to go and they had several drinks options. For $14, you can’t beat it! And it felt like it took like 5 minutes, but my food was definitely cooked fully. Most of the bad reviews I saw were about gorditas, but this burrito was delicious. Highly recommend this burrito.

This is the place you are looking for. Any poor reviews are from people who don’t like real flavorful authentic tacos. If you lived in southern Texas and are looking for the place to go to remind you of home, go here. Mexican food that actually has some flavor and personality. A must try

I heard great things about this restaurant but I guess my expectations were higher. I got 2 tortas and 4 tacos. Carne asada and lengua were bland. No taste at all. At the very minimum add salt. FYI: For some reason they are charging double tax.
