1 star for the food. We had been here last year and it was almost 40-min wait. But the pumpkin fried rice was amazing and we decided to come back.
The pumpkin fried rice was delicious as always, however, I felt sick quite quickly and noticed there is a layer of oil with every spoon full of rice. It probably makes the food good, but it was so oily and we couldn’t finish it despite the size is quite small for two.
We also ordered soft shell crab tempura. Sounds good right? Well, there was four pieces of index finger size crab leg, and mostly breading. It was very embarrassing for $18.
We also ordered the special Matsutake mushrooms soup. (As shown in picture). I remember this being $18, and it has four tea cup worth of soup. Hello?
I loved the soup because it was packed with umami. However I started getting insanely thirsty and drank like 5 glasses of water. That makes me think it may have no small amount of msg. Not a problem, but if I’m paying good money for a dish that was supposedly to be naturally umami packed, this would’ve unacceptable. Hope I’m wrong.
Maybe they are just having an off night. I also noticed that today at dinner hour on a weekend night, there was no wait. Maybe the restaurant is taking a downturn.
I went back home and my gums are hurting. Don’t think we will come back, just because the food doesn’t seem to treat my body right, whether that’s the excessive oil or potentially msg.
The fish is insanely fresh. Like, melt-in-your-mouth fresh. You can taste the quality right away, whether it’s sashimi, nigiri, or specialty rolls. Nothing feels heavy or overcomplicated — just clean flavors done right.
I also love how creative the menu is without trying too hard. There’s a really nice balance between traditional sushi and some interesting, thoughtful twists.
And honestly, the best part is the vibe at the bar. The chefs behind the counter are super friendly, welcoming, and clearly passionate about what they do. Sitting there, chatting with them, watching everything being prepared — that’s the experience.
We stopped by for lunch on a weekday and were blown away by how delicious everything was. The Tonkatsu was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside — the shredded cabbage and sauce on the side were the perfect pairing. We also ordered the Sukiyaki, which was packed with flavor and came in a generous portion. The California roll was fresh and satisfying — you could really taste the quality of the ingredients.
Don’t skip the hot green tea — it ties the meal together beautifully.
Highly recommend supporting this local spot. You’ll leave full and happy!
While the food was enjoyable, the service left much to be desired. The staff took our order, brought out the dishes, and ensured we received the bill, but that was the extent of their interaction. Water was never refilled, plates were not cleared until the end, and we had to go to the front to request an additional place setting.
My critical view of the service might be influenced by my recent trip to Taiwan, where every venue of similar caliber provided exceptional service without the expectation of a tip. Sometimes, I wish restaurants would simply charge more to include the cost of tipping in their prices, so I wouldn’t feel shortchanged by poor service and indifferent attitudes from the staff.
