At our Matthews, NC location, we are part of a historic seafood tradition. Captain D’s Seafood Restaurant first opened its doors back on August 15, 1969. A lot has changed since then, but our commitment to serving freshly prepared seafood at a great value has been our core mission from the beginning. Known originally as Mr. D’s Seafood and Hamburgers, Captain D’s was opened in Donelson, Tennessee. From the very start, we set out to provide quality seafood at reasonable prices, a concept that was revolutionary at the time.

I have been getting food from them for a while. The fish is always good. But lately , I noticed that when I get the battered fish , there’s always fried battered crumbs under the fish. I just called the restaurant to let them know I don’t like that. The young lady told me that it was a corporate thing! She said corporate told them to do that. Really?
Why would you give a customer the batter crumbs that’s in the bottom of the fry basket? I half never been to a restaurant where they give you the crumbs from the batter too!

I got two pieces of fried-fish with two sides of fries and hush-puppies. The fish was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. I still can’t believe how reasonably priced the meal deals were. I would highly recommend.

I stopped in and ordered the Supreme sampler with fries and slaw. Sweet tea for the drink also. The location was pretty clean and the staff was very nice. My food tasted good, came out hot, and felt it was enough for what I paid. No complaints here at all.

This location rocks the seafood! Our area has no seafood so we traveled here to enjoy a meal. And enjoy we did! The food was spot on!! Fish, shrimp and crab cakes were perfect!! The staff were great. A very enjoyable experience.

I don’t even know if it’s worth posting based on your 3.7. Google review rating. I frequent this captain D’s multiple times a month and in the past I have seen some questionable sanitary things. Today I walked in. I ordered a two piece and a piece of the fish fell off onto the dirty portion of the tray so the lady behind the counter looked around to see if anybody was watching and she picked it up with her hands while holding a stack of cash she just finished counting and threw it back on the plate. I explained to her that I saw what happened so she yelled to the back please remake one piece of fish. It was no longer about the one piece of fish, but rather one piece of fish that she was remaking due to the fact, she put the dirty fish on top of the clean plate, I was done. I will never be back and anybody that ever asks me about this location. I will make sure to tell them how disgustingly dirty they are. I explained the situation in the scenario to the manager. She didn’t seem to care either. They were quick to refund my money and have me leave. Unfortunately, in today’s brainless world this could’ve been and should’ve been handled much differently. Very simply sorry, sir. Let me remake your order for you. FYI, a customer that was walking out while this interaction was going on stopped me outside and told me he heard everything and he saw what I saw. He also stated he would not be back

This food is always cooked to service the people and that’s how all restaurants should think. I went to through the drive-thru and the workers seemed nice, she had customer service skills and that is enough for me. I will be returning when I am back in Matthew, NC.

The items were not up to par for me. The coleslaw had too many hard pieces of cabbage, making it really hard to chew. The fries, hushpuppies, and fried fish were also not fried enough, making them really soggy. I used to love eating at Captain D’s, but recently, they have been slacking! I wish there will be some sort of improvements towards these issues!

New management team is Amazing! The restaurant was very clean on the inside. My kids loved their meal. Looks like they are using multi grain bread for their buns now… excellent change! Food was fresh and hot. Highly recommend this location!
