This little Indian restaurant is truly a hidden gem, especially if you’re looking for comforting, home-style flavors. Our absolute favorite order here is the saag paneer—it’s super delicious, rich, and perfectly seasoned. The paneer pakora sandwiched with chutney is another standout, crispy on the outside with a great balance of flavors. The samosa is on the milder side, making it a nice, approachable option, and the chana masala is hearty and satisfying.
The onion kulcha deserves a special mention—my personal favorite. It honestly feels more like a home-cooked onion paratha mixed with naan, warm, soft, and comforting. All the dishes are served with rice, which is a nice touch. For dessert, the warm gulab jamun is soft, fresh, and melts in your mouth. The mango lassi is sweet and refreshing, just the way it should be.
One dish that wasn’t for me was the paneer masala, as it leaned a bit too tomatoey for my taste—but that’s purely personal preference.
A special note: the owner is awesome, specify what you like and they usually accommodate. This is a very small, family-run business. Just a heads-up—after 7:30 PM they only offer takeout, no dine-in.
If you’re craving authentic, comforting Indian food made with care, this place is definitely worth supporting.

Indian food is very complex, featuring many spices with layers of flavors throughout. Different regions offer variations and sometimes completely different dishes.
Visiting this one gives you a very mild introduction to the cuisine. You tailor the spiciness level, but we were disappointed in some of the dishes that were made too Americanized. For instance, the malai Kosta was super sweet. Why? The chicken tikka Masala was sweet too. Again, why?
Overall, everything was decent but not outstanding.

Always a favorite! Tonight we ordered the saag paneer, shrimp vindaloo, and chicken curry, and every dish was perfectly spiced exactly to our request. The portion sizes were generous, and the amount of protein in each dish was impressive. We opted for takeout this evening, but as always, the restaurant was spotless and the staff exceptionally friendly. I do feel compelled to note that some of the recent negative reviews seem unfortunately unfounded. In my opinion, this long-standing, excellent restaurant is being unfairly targeted now that new competitors have entered the area. This place has consistently delivered quality food and service for years, and it remains one of our go-to favorites

I’ve been going to Shalimar since I was 7 years old. This place taught me to love Indian cuisine. It’s ran only by husband and wife, they own the business. They allow you to pick the spice level so it’s not intimidating for someone new to the cuisine. The food is simply Devine. The lamb was so tender and delicious. Every naan we got was soft and fluffy and properly stuffed with fillings. Rice was aromatic and perfectly cooked. The mango lassie was the best my wife has ever tasted. We felt like family the moment we walked into the building and the atmosphere felt like home and SPOTLESS. If we lived closer we would make this our weekly date spot. I feel so fortunate to exsist at the same time as these wonderful people so we can enjoy their incredible food. Thank you!!!

My girlfriend and I were on the hunt for an experience. And for us, that means an entire food style and restaurant the neither of us have ever had.
Well, this place was our pick.
We enjoyed 2 different versions of the breads (1 Garlic and 1 chicken)
We also shared a dish to taste.
Both breads were nice, light a delicious.
As was our meal. I usually order MEDIUM spice anywhere I go, but here you will want to order mild (glad they told me that)
The roasted pepper relish was hot but TASTY! Idk exactly what to call the brown sauce but to me it was like a sweet balsamic. I played around and tried everything with the bread, relish and sauce. All flavors played well together
Very nice staff, clean dining room and good food.
We will be back

This was the best chicken masala I have ever had. The naan was perfect. The mango lassi was extraordinary. I live out of state but if I am ever visiting Conway NH again I will be eating here! Please give this wonderful friendly couple your business.

I ordered in for my last day on vacation. I was greeted quickly and with a smile . Sat down right away . It seems like it’s ran by the owner and possibly his daughter or a younger girl . Both gave 5 star service . Extremely kind . Nothing but smiles , and were efficient . The meal came out in a very timely manner and I would say the food was a 4/5 . I enjoyed my meal very much and finished every bite . The owner even allows more servings of rice with no cost . The cost of the meal wasn’t bad at all . 35$ for naan/appetizer/coca cola/ main meal . I was sat down in a great spot and the atmosphere of the room is quiet with just enough lighting to write or read a book , but dark enough to have a relaxing dinner. I enjoyed this place a lot and would go back again tonight if I could . Definitely reccomend to anyone .

Don’t go to this place ever. Better eat some pizza or chipotle. The owner disrespected all of his customers. We ordered food for $100 or so as we were coming from long distance and no Indian restaurant near us.
We ordered chicken biryani- they just poured some red chilli powder. We couldn’t even eat one spoon. We all got stomach pain. Rice was kind of pulao.
The chicken masala is very sweet. They just added some ketchup or something. We couldn’t eat that too.
Veg pakora is worst of all. Not cooked at all.
Garlic nan is not so good.
Owner was too rude and not even taking our feedback. In reverse he lecturing us saying this is my recipe and I look like this only.

What this place served was nothing close to indian food. The chicken curry was very raw. The tomatoes and the onions were not cooked properly. The onion kulcha and roti was not good either.I would not recommend it to anyone.

Absolutely love this place! Have been going for years. Superb Indian food in the heart of Mount Washington Valley. Shalamar of India food is inspired by the Punjab region of India, which is the foodie region of India. The chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, garlic naan, and vegetable pekora are my favorite! Also, the plum sauce is delicious. And don’t forget a mango lassi or their famous Indian chai! Highly, highly, highly recommend this delicious restaurant. As someone who has actually traveled to India, I can say it compares to authentic Indian food. Grateful to have this restaurant in North Conway.
