Social Profile:

We come from the “rust belt”, where generations and generations of different people have come to work in our factories, mines, and fields in order to earn a better life. Our people have come home, or been sent to work, with a great meal prepared by loving hands meant to fill bellies and nourish the soul. We aim to create rib-sticking meals within the culinary traditions of Latin America which have created a strong presence in the Midwest, but with the pride of being where we are from, the Rust Belt.

There are so many good things to say about this restaurant. The brisket tacos were phenomenal. The brisket was perfectly flavorful and the tacos were fried with cheese. The consommé was a good addition. The bread was so soft and toasted perfectly. It had a great amount of cheese and was really good with the queso. I would definitely recommend trying the queso and the brisket tacos.

Good vibes overall, in a new walkable development with lots of bars, breweries, and restaurants to choose from. Would definitely come back to the area.

I had the brisket taco with a side of chips and guacamole. The brisket was great, but I didn’t think it was well balanced as a whole, and the brisket basically was the entire taco. It could have used some additional onions, lettuce, slaw, etc to round it out. The chips were also a bit overcooked.

Somewhat hidden within the building with Fishers Test Kitchen and the Sun King Brewery, among other food offerings. Have enjoyed the chicken, pork, and brisket tacos as well as the pork torta. All superbly delicious. The consumé is awesome to dip into but great just on its own…like a soup. I also liked the escabeche slaw, it’s very refreshing.

The salsas were ok, but not nearly as impressive as the consumé.

The food is amazing! They have a good vegetarian/ vegan menu! The restaurants seating is attached to the Sun Kings seating, so it can be a little confusing the first time you go. Overall Gordito’s is amazing, and is a must visit whenever I’m home from college!!

Coming from a life time linemen and heavy weight wrestler this food is a true gem. I got the tacos and to say the least they were as close to perfect as you can get. The tortillas were crunchy and freshly made. When biting into the tacos I went to a place far beyond this earth. To describe the feeling a word that comes to mind is majestical. As far as the chips and salsa go they were easily the best I have had. The orange sauce and peach sauce are true masterpieces. To top off this perfect food the service was amazing. I got my food fast and had a great conversation with the owner after eating. If you are looking for the best grub in town this is the spot.

UPDATE: Gave this place another try. Wanted to try other menu items, but there weren’t many non-meat offerings so we stuck with the nachos ($10) and the Juicy Banzogi Taco ($5.25). The taco still tastes pretty good, although I’m not sure it’s a great value with the $1 rise in price from last year. The nachos also took a $1 rise in price, but apparently they don’t add the Banzogi to the veggie nachos, so they were pretty plain as far as toppings went between just the queso and smoky salsa/sauce it had. If ordering again, would stick to the taco, but honestly prefer the options and value at Torchy’s.

This is 1 of 3 restaurant options at the Sun King Fisher’s test kitchen. It was our 1st time trying out the place, which was a little confusing as far as how it’s supposed to work (if there were directions, we missed them). We walked in the north door and saw a sea of tables & chairs, with the Sun King bar to the left and counters for the restaurant options on the other side of the room to the south. They have their menu on display overhead and you place your order via the kiosk at the counter. Although I didn’t do so, I think you’re supposed to enter your phone number at the end of placing your order so that you may get a text when your food order is ready. Failing to do this, I just tried to keep an eye on the space where they seemed to be placing trays of food that customers kept walking up to take to see when our order would be ready. If you want any of Sun King’s beverages, you have to claim a seat and a server will take your order, which I didn’t realize for a bit as I tried to go directly to the bar initially.

All of that aside, here is our scoop on the food:

Gordito’s Bread $6 – was basically a grilled cheese. Was good, but not sure we would order it again necessarily. It came with a consummé sauce for dipping

Nachitos Gorditos $9 – They didn’t skimp on the toppings, although I didn’t notice the bánzogi (refried garbanzo beans) as much as I would have liked due to the variety of other toppings. The smoky drizzle tended to dominate, but we would order this again.

Signature Taco $4.25 & Cheesy Fajita Tacos $4.75 – We did 1 of each of these w/ the bánzogi. The taco shell was unique and very good, basically a cheesy corn tortilla. We preferred the signature as the fajita veggies didn’t really improve what the Signature already provided.

We like to frequent Condado’s and Torchy’s for their tacos and I would put their signature taco right up there with their selections. The bánzogi is a unique option I hadn’t had before and would definitely order again. I would like to try this place again and hopefully it will go a little more smoothly after going through the process once now.

Love when a menu and the food is a little different than the standard offerings. That is the case with the food at Gordito’s – not the standard tacos. Between my wife and I we had the Juicy Brisket Taco, the Juicy Pork Tack and the Taco Borracho. All three were excellent. Served on a cheese flour tortilla that has been toasted and crisped in the oven, it gives the flavor and suppleness of flour (as opposed to corn), but with a crispness added in addition to the unique adobo cheese. Well filled with the listed ingredients and definitely deserving of the designation as “juicy.” We really liked these. The side of guacamole was a bit small and did not stand out at all. The Esquites (Mexican Street Corn) was excellent on the other hand. It did seem a little pricy for the size. The table app ordering was a bit confusing and not at all smooth. I suggest you just go up to the counter and order on their machine instead. And, of course, at this location you have a full selection of Sun King beer to select from. So conclusion – great tacos, good but small sides, confusing app since right there in the location, plenty of beer.

This place is just AMAZING. I had their brisket torta and it was absolutely delicious, it really took me back to México in every bite, the bread is perfect, the combination of flavors are delicious. My husband had a chicken taco and he loved it too. You go to Mexican restaurants and you don’t get actual Mexican food, just the same stuff at every place but Gordito’s is definitely worth to try if you want to taste real Mexican tacos and tortas.
