Sophia’s is such a special place. Sophia and her staff are incredibly warm and welcoming, and you can feel it the second you walk in. Everything is homemade and seriously delicious. The roast beef sandwich with the chicken pastina soup was perfect, and the ham special was amazing too. You can tell how much care goes into the food and the overall vibe. You can’t beat the live music while sitting outside in the summer!! It’s BYOB which is always a plus! Truly one of those places you keep coming back to. I can’t recommend Sophia and the beautiful place she’s poured her heart and soul into over the years enough!

Everything on the menu is fabulous and they’re very accommodating to allergies or vegetarian requests. Service can be a little slow – but everything is made upon being ordered & fresh, so wait times are to be expected.

I recently hosted a Sunday brunch gathering at Sophia’s at Walden, and unfortunately the experience was disappointing overall.

We made our reservation two months in advance. From the start, there was pushback from the owner, who seemed very concerned about ensuring every reserved seat would be filled. I agreed to call and confirm our attendance a few days prior, which I did. During that confirmation, she informed me that guests would not be welcome unless they ordered food — which felt unnecessary and unwelcoming for a brunch reservation.

I was also told our tables would be side by side rather than combined, which I agreed to in order to accommodate the space. However, when we arrived, our group of 12 was split even further, with a completely unrelated table placed between us. This made it difficult to talk as a group and took away from the entire purpose of meeting together.

Most disappointing was the tone from the owner, who was not kind or welcoming throughout the process or on the day of the reservation. It made what should have been a relaxed Sunday brunch feel tense and uncomfortable.

On a positive note, the structure and ambience of the space were nice, and our waitress was pleasant and attentive. The food was fair, but nothing particularly special.

Overall, while the setting has potential, the handling of our reservation and the lack of warmth from ownership made this a difficult place to recommend for group brunches.

We had an AMAZING brunch this past weekend. This was a bit of a last minute decision for us, so we didn’t have a reservation, but Sophia got us a table. Everyone was incredibly friendly and kind while we were there, from warm greetings when we walked in to friendly conversation. I also cannot say enough good things about the food, it was phenomenal. The quiche had the most amazing texture, the pastina was some of the best soup I’ve ever had, my boyfriend loved his omelette and said it was a great ratio of egg to filling. It was hard to pick what to eat because the menu had so many delicious sounding options. It definitely gets busy, we saw the tail end of Sunday brunch and we were still seeing food fly out the window at 1:15. The food is well worth the wait make a reservation!! We will definitely be coming back soon

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Outstanding experience at Sophia’s at Walden!

Sophia’s at Walden absolutely blew me away. I ordered the cinnamon bun pancakes with a side of sausage, and I’m not exaggerating when I say they were incredible—warm, perfectly sweet, and just the right kind of indulgent. The sausage was a perfect match, and the coffee was genuinely amazing (which is rare enough that it deserves its own shoutout).

But what really makes this place special is the service. Every single person I interacted with was friendly, welcoming, and on top of everything. And then they went above and beyond in a way you don’t see often anymore: after I left, they called to let me know I’d accidentally left my credit card. I had both of my little kids with me and they were asleep in the car, and instead of making me come back in, the owner actually came outside in the freezing cold and handed me my card—without me even having to get out of the car.

That level of care is unforgettable. Amazing food, excellent coffee, and truly top-notch, thoughtful service. Sophia’s at Walden has earned a loyal customer for life. I can’t recommend it enough!

We came here for brunch on a Sunday in July. We made a reservation online that morning and we arrived a bit early but still were seated promptly.

Our server brought us water and menus shortly after we were seated and gave us some time to decide on meals.

I had been here once before a few years ago and had the chicken and waffles and it was very good. This time we both ordered the brunch omelet – one with a side salad and one with potatoes. The food was served pretty quickly. The salad was a good. The brunch omelet has mushrooms, caramelized onions and goat cheese. There was a little too much goat cheese for my preference so I did scrape some out of it. I would have liked a little more of the onion but the eggs were good. I tasted a bit of the potatoes and they were a little dry. The omelet was served with toast as well. I had rye and thought that was a little dry too.

Our server, Georgia, was friendly and attentive. She made sure we had what we needed at all times.

The tables inside are a bit close together at least where we were sitting. It’s not a big dining room so if I would go back I maybe would request to sit outside on the patio. It looks a little more spacious and open out there. I didn’t take any pics inside because I didn’t want to be all up in the tables around us business.

From what I understand it does get very busy here so they encourage reservations. If you walk in you may have to wait.

We had an ok experience.

Went for a book club meeting. First let me say the employees under Sophie are very sweet and kind. Sophie on the other hand was a monster from the get go. Her accommodations foe us was putting small 2 person table between our 2 full tables. On phone she explained our tables would beside each other but not pushed together which would of been no problem, that didnt happen. I pointed to others in a big group and she said “well they reserved months ago” we were deserved in advance also ans was told BY HER we would be BESIDE each other.
Never once saw the woman smile as she was playing hostess…not once, at anyone. She has a very “Bitchy” attitude. I ended up sitting beside a young lady new to the club. She had mentioned to me she wanted to join up but had a previous experience with Sophie aa well and knowing others that out of all their experiences the top number 1 and maybe the only 1 complaint was Sophie’s attitude and the way she treats people in person as well as on the phone. I worked in retail just about all my 60 some years and can’t even imagine ever even coming across someone treating their patrons like she does. Needless to say we will not be going back there EVER! I hope her employees find a place they can do their job and be appreciated and treated with respect if she treats her employees like her patrons.
My advice ” put a smile on your face and rethink how you talk to people Soohie.
I gave 4 stars but that’s for her employees.

This sandwich place has great food and super friendly service. The Rachel and Reuben were tasty and the fries and onion rings were hot. While it did take over 20min to get our food, it was worth the wait. We hope to get back sometime when it’s warm and we can enjoy their outside dining .

There’s no better BYO in this part of Mechanicsburg than Sophia’s. The food quality is incredible, as Sophia prides herself on quality ingredients — everything is always fresh. Her menu offers a diverse selection that caters to a wide range of tastes. Our personal favorites are the coconut shrimp, gluten-free BBQ chicken pizza, the Sloppy Joe special, and at brunch, I love the Monte Cristo sandwich! Sophia is also the sweetest person and will accommodate any need — we love this place and enjoy eating here almost weekly!

Review for Sophia’s at Walden (Mechanicsburg, PA)

Sophia’s at Walden is truly a hidden gem in Mechanicsburg! The food was absolutely amazing — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Every dish was cooked to perfection and full of taste, but the real star of the meal was the carrot cake. It was exceptional — moist, rich, and perfectly balanced with just the right amount of sweetness and spice. Hands down, one of the best desserts I’ve ever had!

If you’re in the Mechanicsburg area, do yourself a favor and check out Sophia’s at Walden. From the warm atmosphere to the outstanding food and service, this place is a must-visit. Highly recommended!
