The year was 1967 and Giuseppe (Joe) Bertolone had returned home to beautiful Marina di Andora located on the Italian Riviera in the region of Liguria. He was there to visit family after taking some time off from working in the heart of London where he had been perfecting his love for cooking while working at an Italian restaurant in the infamous Picadilly Circus.
With his love for food, Joe entered into a small café, but instead of remembering the dish he ate, a more permanent memory would be etched upon his heart. “It was love at first sight”, Joe would recall, as he spoke of the moment when he first laid eyes on the woman who would soon become his wife.
Elvira was a vibrant, beautiful young woman. She too, shared a love for cooking

Awesome little Italian place in an otherwise Dean location. This one is a diamond in the rough
I had the lasagna, which is my go to measuring stick for the overall quality of an Italian restaurant. It was great, but the real jewel on their menu is the tomato basil soup. This is the absolute best tomato basil soup In have ever had!
The location itself is small and kind of cramped, but the staff is very friendly, attentive and helpful. I enjoyed my visit and will be back.

Very good place to eat. Everyone is very nice and service was amazing. It was very clean here and made up so cozy and cute. They had a picture on the wall of the owners and they are too sweet. Food is good wine is good ambiance is good. I had lasania but I forgot to take a picture of it I have to say it was so yummy.

It was my third time going to Bertolone’s last night. Everything was so good! Their tomato soup is the only one I will eat without a question. That being said, I think I will wait until summer to try the mozzarella again. I think in season tomatoes will be so much better.
Recommendations: lasagna Bianca, buffalo chicken pizza, mushroom ravioli, lobster ravioli and you have to try the desserts. They have so many different ones, it’s hard to choose.

I drove 55 minute to visit Bertolone’s today. I must say, when it comes to the flavors of the food, the trip was worth it. I ordered the Porky Pig and Meatball Pizza. I also ordered the Lasagna. All of the food was excellent. The pizza was some of the best I have had locally. My only disappointment was the pizza was alot smaller than I anticipated. Not small enough to take a star away though.

Nice clean place . We got there an hour before they close so not sure if that contributed to the quality of the food .
Pasta was overcooked. To the point of it being mushy . Hard to say you had great Italian if the pasta isn’t cooked correctly.
Now the strawberry cake was really phenomenal. Bit pricey but very delicious

Bertolone’s in Clanton was our after church lunch destination today. Great food at reasonable prices. Michael loved his Papa Joe’s Special Calzone, 12 inches of sausage, salami, ham, pepperoni, onions, olives, and mushrooms for $12.95…easily enough to serve 2-3 people. He said it reminded him of our delicious Chicago pizzas back home. I opted for the lunch portion of Mushroom Ravioli for 10.95. Well worth the 30 minute drive. Can’t wait for the Calera location to open later this summer!

If you won’t authentic Italian food this is the place for you. The atmosphere is really great and the food is better than that. Also save room for dessert because their cakes are to die for.
