We’ve been wanting to try this place for a while but it’s pretty difficult to get a reservation earlier than 8 PM. They obviously do a good business. Our reservation was at 5 PM, and I was impressed to see a line of people waiting to get in for the first-come, first-served bar seating. It filled up immediately. We were seated next to the bar area, close to the action. The inside is small, cozy, but lively and has charming tin ceiling tiles. The service was a little slow, and we had to ask for drink refills, something that was a little surprising for how many staff were working that night. The food was delicious with the exception of the seafood dish with risotto which, for the price-point, was underwhelming, over-cooked, and had cooled down by the time it was served to us. The rigatoni, however, was to-die-for! SO GOOD! It made up for the risotto, and is the reason why we will most definitely give this place a second chance.

Phenomenal and a totally unique, distinctive restaurant + bar in the South Side Flats area of Pittsburgh. Legit mixology / cocktails, and very impressive food. Seafood, pasta, lamb gnocchi, etc. Highly recommend. Unlike so many other restos which tend to be “hit or miss,” this spot is CONSISTENTLY excellent. Also, if your party is 1-2 people you can prob find a spot at the bar for drinks +/- dinner.

The service was excellent and the food was phenomenal. The atmosphere is on the dim side, but it works well for a relaxed dining experience. Prices are very reasonable given the high quality of the food. I highly recommend trying several appetizers before your entrée—they’re outstanding. Easily one of the best restaurants in Pittsburgh.

In town for work and was really craving some Italian seafood. This place knocks it out of the park. Everything was fresh seasoned well, beer is cold and delicious. I had the Spaghetti ai Frutti di Mare with the Brussel sprouts on the side. The staff and bartender are incredibly attentive, but not overbearing. I will be coming back again.

This place was definitely worth the hype! It’s a small lively restaurant and bar with great service and amazing food.
The grilled octopus was cooked to tender perfection. We loved the cosy, comforting gnocchi with lamb ragu.
The grilled flank steak was also cooked well and paired with a memorable side of panfried sunchokes and brussels sprouts. It didn’t look like much but it may just be one of the best sides I’ve had with steak.

Small and cozy with loads of charm. It was our first time here, and we loved it. We’re already talking of a return visit. We had the fish dinner Branzino stuffed with fresh lemon garlic and rosemary and more. It was delish as was the appetizer, grilled calamari, the bread the dipping oil and vinegar. The waiter was helpful, friendly, accessible and knowledgeable. I felt he really wanted us to have a great time and wonderful dinner, and we did!!

Great meal! It’s a small restaurant in a neighborhood and you will drive right by it if you don’t pay attention. They had no tables available on a Wednesday night so we sat at the bar. Started with a specialty cocktail which was very good and not too sweet. Then had the grilled octopus app which was excellent. I had the Grigliata Mista di Mare which was grilled seafood with a little risotto. Spectacular. The scallop was cooked perfectly as we’re the rest of the pieces of seafood. It was light but very satisfying. My coworker had the gnocchi with lamb ragu and he said it was delicious. We had Tiramisu for dessert and was also perfectly done–not heavy or too sweet with just the right amount of espresso bitterness. I will definitely go back.

Food was spectacular! We really wanted to eat here but where unable to get a last minute reserve since they are always full (rightfully so) so we arrived near opening time, waited for a bit and where able to sit at the bar (which is always open for walk ins). Authentic, delicious italian food! And atmosphere is very intimate We had the veal, the gnocci ragu (the best) and the tiramisu!

2025 Update:
The food is still amazing! Everything was delicious. Excellent service! Panna cotta was great, but the rest of deserts just good.
2024: This place was recommended to me and i was lucky to make a reservation on short notice. The host at restaurant is very friendly and makes you feel like you are coming over to an Italian house where the family is making a meal. The drink selection is limited, but wine selection is more than adequate. The appetizers were on point and all the pasta dishes were excellent. I wasn’t a fan of any of the deserts, except tiramisu was ok. Would definitely recommend this place and hopefully will return.

Nestled on 17th Street in Pittsburgh’s South Side, Dish Osteria & Bar is a charming and intimate eatery that serves up soul-warming Sicilian and Mediterranean fare. With a cozy yet elevated atmosphere, it’s the perfect place for handcrafted pasta, fresh seafood, curated wines, amaros, and decadent cocktails. Open Tuesday through Saturday from 5 PM to 11:30 PM, this spot fills up quickly—definitely make a reservation!
The vibe is upscale without being pretentious, and the service is warm, attentive, and welcoming. The menu changes seasonally, but a few classic dishes stick around for good reason.
Went with a few friends and shared a delicious spread—starting with the Calamari alla Griglia: grilled East Coast calamari served with lemon, parsley, extra virgin olive oil, and sautéed spinach. Each piece was tender and flavorful. The Melanzane e Mozzarella di Bufala was a standout—grilled eggplant with buffalo mozzarella, basil, aged balsamic, and Sicilian olive oil. Every bite was a perfectly balanced medley of smokiness, tang, and creaminess.
We also split two salads. The Insalata Mista was crisp and refreshing with a blend of radicchio, arugula, romaine, frisée, mustard greens, cherry tomatoes, green onions, turnips, and radishes—all dressed in Sicilian extra virgin olive oil and white balsamic. The Insalata di Carciofini alla Griglia (grilled baby artichokes with wild arugula, radicchio, and fig balsamic, topped with Ricotta Salata shavings) was another beautifully crafted plate with bold, fresh flavors.
For my main, I had the Gnocchi al Ragu di Agnello—pillowy homemade potato gnocchi paired with Elysian Fields lamb shoulder ragu, Pecorino Pepato, and rosemary. Impeccable. The gnocchi were light yet satisfying, and the lamb was melt-in-your-mouth tender. Also sampled the Pappardelle ai Funghi Selvaggi and Rigatoni alla Scamorza Affumicata—both beautifully executed.
We paired the meal with a featured cocktail of the week and a glass of wine and wrapped it up with a rich flourless chocolate cake—a sweet finish to a flawless night.
Dish Osteria & Bar is truly a gem in Pittsburgh’s dining scene—perfect for a date night, special celebration, or cozy dinner with friends. Refined, soulful, and full of heart.
