Birthday at PF Changs in Thousand Oaks. This was my first time at this location. The shopping complex where this restaurant is located is beautiful, with a waterfall, pedestrian bridge and small playground for children. The restaurant itself is very elegant, with great ambiance (loved the music). We were grateful to be seated, even though half of our group hadn’t yet arrived. The table that was reserved for us was perfect, with plenty of room. Our group opinion of the food varied, depending on the item ordered. The prices are fairly high, but I expected this. For the most part, the food was pretty good. The children’s meal that my grandson ordered was the best value of all :). The restaurant provided a very generous piece of cake for my sister, free of charge. Service was fair, but considering this was a busy Friday night, I think they did the best they could. The restaurant was very clean, including restrooms. Overall, we had a great time! I think this is a great venue for a special celebration.
Got to the restaurant around 1230pm and it was dead. Perhaps about 7-10 people scattered throughout the entire restaurant. After waiting several minutes to be seated, we were taken to a table, which I objected. I asked for a booth, but both booths in sight were dirty as could be. When asked if/when they would be cleaned, she shrugged her shoulders and said, ‘I don’t know.’ So she led us across the way to the other side and there was our booth, in all it’s glory.
Raquel was our waitress and she was good. The food, however, was Not what I remember. For starters we had the Lobster Avocado Roll. This was a tasty dish, but came with such a small amount of ginger, I simply looked at it and it disappeared.
Next up, the Surf & Turf and the Signature Lo Mein (combo-chicken, beef, pork and shrimp). The noodles were very mushy and somewhat ‘shredded.’ The meats, with the exception of the shrimp, all melded together. It was impossible to discern the other 3 meats.
As far as the Surf & Turf, it seemed more like a Breakfast Scramble due to the country potatoes. Not quite the flavor I was expecting from such an Epically named dish! Perhaps my standards, when it comes to Chinese fare has changed in the last decade, but being that they now boast ‘With a Farm to Wok food philosophy at its core,’ P.F. Changs has also changed just a bit.
Perhaps Philip Chiang might want to give Jose Rodriguez a few lessons with the Wok. Just sayin’.
Interesting menu .. and I always want to try new things..
I can not wait to come back soon!!!
Thank you again ..
Keep up the good job!
