I’ve been eating at Big Al’s for years now. Don’t normally do take out, but I did today. Boy do I regret it. First, I didn’t realize they switched their fries. Not a big fan of the new ones. Idk if it’s because they wasn’t fresh or because they were soggy. But it’s a NO for me. I also thought it was weird I had to pay for ranch dressing after spending $20 plus for some wings. They charge a dollar depending on the flavor you choose as well. Wanted my wings extra crispy and extra wet. Extra wet they were, but not crispy at all. Just undecided about them now.

Great place we found by accident. Katie was our server and she was amazing. Provided excellent recommendations for our first time. The husband had the hot dogs that were on the daily special and I tried the Philly steak sub. The two items that stood out to me were the fantastic tater tots. Some of the best I’ve ever had. They were soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside, but with the airiest (is that a word?) crunch. Also, the wings were the juiciest I have ever had. After I dripped on my shirt three times I had to put a bib on. We can’t wait to go back and try something else on the menu.

Moving here from Buffalo, we have pretty high expectations for chicken wings. A friend recommended Al’s to after trying a few other restaurants and being disappointed. Al’s wings by far are the best in the Lake Norman area. The staff is always friendly at pickup and the food is always consistent. If you’re looking for great wings in LKN definitely order from Al’s!

Great Food, Drinks & Vibes!
Original Visit (2024):
I came to Big Al’s and ordered the 10pc Teriyaki wings with a side of seasoned fries, and let me tell you—the food was on point! The wings were fried perfectly, and the teriyaki sauce was immaculate. The fries were crispy and flavorful, not bland like some other spots.
To top it off, I had my go-to drink: a Liquid Marijuana cocktail, and it was strong in the best way. Only $8, and one glass had me feeling it! The bartender/server Dalton was great—super friendly—and the rest of the staff were just as welcoming. I didn’t get any pictures because I was too caught up in the moment, but it was definitely a vibe.
Updated Visit – 6/17/25:
I had to come back—and this time, I showed up on karaoke night (looks like it’s on Tuesdays). The energy was amazing, with a fun crowd, great DJ, and solid karaoke performances. It actually reminded me of The House in Durham, NC.
This time I ordered 15 or 16 boneless wings (half BBQ, half mild) with a basket of fries, liquid marijuana, and everything hit the spot. Wings were juicy and flavorful, and the fries were crispy and hot—just the way I like them.
If you’re looking for a late-night spot to chill, grab some food, or even just take out—Big Al’s is a great go-to. Between the food, drinks, music, and friendly service, they’ve got a winning combo. I’ll definitely keep coming back!

Walked in and sat down at the bar with a friend and was ignored for 15+ minutes. A Sunday at about 6:30 PM. Nobody even batted an eye towards us. Servers were non-existent on the floor and almost nobody had food.
And no they were not short staffed as there were 3-4 employees behind the bar doing nothing but talking and laughing.
Don’t come here unless you want shitty service and attitude.

Our bartender did a great job. Female, blonde, and enjoyed to dance while making drinks. She knew what she was doing and was very attentive to a newby from out of town. Music is loud and such but is to be expected. Space was much nicer than I imagined from the pictures. Bathrooms need some work.

From out of town staying at a nearby hotel. Walked in around 9:15 with my younger brother who is underage. Sat at the bar, I got a beer and a sprite for him. Got nothing but glares from all the employees. The bartender was not friendly then proceeded to have a conversation with another customer about how my 19 y/0 6’ 4” brother was 12 and they would enjoy kicking us out. Apparently 21+ after 10. Had that been posted or kindly informed to me when we sat down we would have left or not overstayed. I politely payed my tab and left and they were making comments as we walked out. 0/10 disrespectful and unwelcome as soon as we walked in. Went to Duckworth’s after and 100% better service and hospitality.

We came to Big Al’s to grab chicken wings. As someone from Buffalo, these are close to what we get there. We had a new to us server, Neil. He was very kind, attentive, laid back, and took great care of us. We have never had a bad experience at Big Al’s, but this night was the best we’ve had yet. The food was great and we left with lunch for the next day! If you’re on the fence about going, don’t be!
