I found this place maybe a year ago by doing a Google search for local fish restaurants in Tallahassee and we had been meaning to try it out because having grown up in rural East Texas, it’s always been my experience that the best catfish comes from these podunky places out in the middle of Nowheresville.
My kiddo and I both had the catfish and hushpuppies with a side of fried okra. The fish was very good. It was seasoned very well and the cajun aioli sauce was very tasty. The hushpuppies were amazing too. I haven’t had good hushpuppies like that in a long time probably since the days of our annual family cook-outs at my late Aunt Ruby’s house who lived along Lake Cherokee in Kilgore, Texas. The fried okra was good too, but for me and my kid at least, it felt like it wasn’t ripened enough because some of the okra stalks were still very firm and it made it almost inedible. Due to that, we didn’t finish the okra. With tax and tip, we spent roughly $55.00 for our food and 2 cans of soda.
I didn’t ding the atmosphere with a lower star rating because I know what kind of establishment places like this are and the clientele they tend to serve. My kiddo, on the other hand, was raised in busy southern Florida from the age of 6 to his adulthood. His memories of Texas are vague and I can’t really can’t recall him ever having patroned a place like this. He wasn’t exactly comfortable being around those who are considered more salt-of-the-earth type people. Due to him feeling uncomfortable, I think if we ever decided to eat here again, we will see if we can do a to-go option.
Overall my expereience 5/5 stars. His, probably 4/5 stars.
We went early on a Saturday afternoon around 1:00 and it was a beautiful sunny day with a nice breeze. Music was nice and mellow and not overly-loud, which was nice since we brought our 11 month old baby with us. Baby friendly spot, good music, nice servers, food was awesome! Definitely will return soon!!

I recently had the pleasure of meeting Omega, and I must say the fish camp was a fantastic experience. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the food was absolutely delicious—every bite was a delight.
What truly stood out during our visit was the exceptional service. My mom, who is in her late 70s, has been coming to to the fish camp with her friends and she always brags about the service and Omega, and they have always been treated with the utmost kindness and respect by the staff. It’s heartwarming to see how they remember the little details that make a visit special.
My mom genuinely loves Omega, and I can understand why. Her personality and attentive service makes it a wonderful place for seniors to enjoy a meal. I highly recommend the fish camp to anyone looking for a fantastic dining experience!
The fish sandwich was good. Hamburger was okay, but had all the toppings available. French fries were out of this world!! Crispy, delicious, golden, nuggets of deliciousness! Lots of beer options, cider, and drinks like Mimosas, Bloody Mary’s, etc.
That said, the food was a letdown. Unfortunately, what we ordered wasn’t cooked properly, which took away from the experience. Not to mention the incredibly small portions(fried oysters). I wanted to love this place more because everything else was on point, but undercooked catfish is hard to overlook.
Would come back for the drinks and the view, but hoping the kitchen tightens things up as they have so much potential!
Would like to update my review as of 7/18/2025. We’ve been back several times and always enjoy. Heard ownership recently changed. Just want to say what an amazing job! It’s better than ever. We had a great time and LOVE the Tacklebox beer and coolers on the tables. My wife and I split a 10 pack along with other drinks and they stayed icey cold!!!! The Mahi-mahi ceviche was delicious as well as Mexican street corn dip. Great job and we can’t wait to come back.
