Had an absolutely fabulous time spending my 30th birthday dinner there! Dylan was so accommodating for my big party of 13 with setting the family style course! They were also some accommodating for our gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian friends! honestly, I could not say enough positive things about my experience.
The staff was so friendly. Avery was our server and they were amazing. Our drinks were quick and food came out quick as well! This restaurant really outdid themselves and for the first time trying the food. it was a 10 out of 10 some of the best Bolognese I’ve ever had highly recommend.

Lucca is consistently amazing. One of my top three favorite Portland restaurants. Ordered the duck pappardelle special to-go and it was phenomenal. The bolognese is always fantastic.

Lucca is a must-visit for PDX Dining Month (March 1–31)! I ordered the Lucca Classics menu for $35, which includes a salad, pasta, and dessert.

The salad was fresh and crisp, though pretty standard. For my entrée, I chose the Spaghetti Pomodoro and it did not disappoint. The spaghetti itself is unique—cooked al dente with a texture that almost reminded me of ramen. The sauce was perfectly seasoned, and I loved the addition of breadcrumbs for a little crunch.

But the real star of the night was the dessert: Chocolate Budino. Creamy, rich, and not too sweet—I would 100% come back just for this. Highly recommend!

Dear Lucca Team,

My husband and I recently decided to have an adventure night and try a new restaurant in the city. We live in Vancouver and were excited to visit Lucca after hearing good things. When we arrived, we chose to sit at the bar because the atmosphere and lighting were beautiful and immediately set a great tone for the evening.

Unfortunately, once we sat down, the experience felt noticeably different than what we had hoped for. It took some time before the bartender acknowledged us and filled our water glasses, and we were not offered any menu options beyond what we initially saw. We assumed that everything was available, though we later noticed other patrons being offered additional or extended menu options that were not mentioned to us.

Throughout the evening, the bartender remained extremely reserved and minimally engaged with us compared to other guests around us. While the service was not overtly rude, it left us feeling somewhat unappreciated and unwelcome, which made the experience uncomfortable.

That said, I do want to acknowledge that the food itself was very good. The pasta was amazing, and the Brussels sprouts were excellent. Toward the end of the meal, we ordered an affogato and waited about 20 minutes. When we asked about it, we were told the kitchen was backed up. I completely understand that delays can happen, but given that an affogato is essentially a scoop of ice cream with a pulled espresso shot, the wait was surprising.

I genuinely don’t enjoy being “that customer” who sends feedback like this, but we felt it was worth sharing our experience. We came excited to try Lucca and fully intended to enjoy the evening—and spend accordingly—but unfortunately left feeling overlooked.

My intention in writing is simply to share honest feedback in hopes that it may be helpful. We truly did enjoy the food and the ambiance, and with a different service experience, it could have been a fantastic evening.

So good! The hype is real. I’ve heard great things about this restaurant, and we ordered takeout before getting there in person. Doordash blundered our order and the manager was SO KIND and helpful getting everything sorted out.

It was so worth the wait. The sauces, dough, vegetables – all cooked to perfection. Everything was SO TASTY! You can tell how much care they put into every detail. We look forward to eating here again and again.

The staff are wonderfully kind and the food is absolutely delicious. The gnocchi was pillowey-soft, the pizza crusts were crispy on the outside (with those yummy blackened bits from the hot wood oven) and soft on the inside, and the house cocktails were great. Try to get in for happy hour if you can; the happy hour pizzas will keep you coming back again and again… amazing. Reservations do help, as they can get busy. I recommend an early reservation on a weekend day, sit back, and eat and drink some of the best stuff in Portland for a couple hours…

I met a good friend here to catch up over Happy Hour. The server was attentive ! Yay- our food was really good, all from Happy Hour menu.We loved the ricotta crostini. Presentation of food , service and taste were spot on but I always forget this Place is noisy and there’s not much they can do about that, it’s just a noisy joint. Thank you-We’ll be back.

I arrived after an appointment and they weren’t too far from the clinic, which is a huge plus. The atmosphere is amazing and so comfortable. The service staff and all were very sweet. I had never been here and got welcomed. I was also asked my preference between outside and inside. I picked inside. The pomegranate creme soda is a must. So sweet and bitter, I loved it. The pizza had the perfect bake. A little bit of burn so it improves the flavor. The sweet tomato and lovely olive under tons were so delightful for the margarita pizza. Overall, if you want pizza on the East side, come here.

It was a more typical evening at Lucca. All the tables were full, and the energy was good overall. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. The manager poured us water and welcomed us in.

As the evening progressed, however, the noise level rose considerably, which made it hard to have a conversation with each other. And, our server seemed to go missing for long (between 15-20 minutes) periods. When we needed to order wine, for example, we had to keep a lookout. When we saw him and got his attention, it felt like we had to rush to tell him what we needed before he quickly took off.

About our drinks, one of our party ordered a half-calf Americano; it turns out that they had espresso including decaf beans. We also ordered two old-fashioned cocktails. When our cocktails arrived they were missing the cherries we had been accustomed to, and which we thought were a required ingredient. (Every other time we’d come in to order that drink, it contained a cherry. In speaking with our server, he educated us about the origin of the cocktail stating that it did not come with a cherry. This was intriguing but we felt sentimental. Luckily they had cherries at the bar, and he brought us one each on bamboo skewers Still, it might have been better to get us the cherries we wanted, and then tell us about the cocktail not having them. It felt like we got “schooled” for asking.

As for the main entrees, one of us ordered the smoked halibut chowder with a side of asparagus (See photo), another ordered the American wagyu beef (See photo), and I ordered the pork loin with guanciale, cherries, and chickories and polenta cakes. The dishes were sizable enough that we did not need to order any appetizers or starters.

For dessert, as we were celebrating, we ordered the chocolate pot-de-creme with toffee cookies, and the warm GF Marionberry crumble with oat and polenta crisp topped with a dollop of real whipped cream and edible flowers.

Overall, I lowered my score on the service. The food was fantastic, tasty, and carefully crafted to order. The atmosphere, always lively, just a bit much after a while.
