Dining at the Blue Nile is an authentic taste of Ethiopia. Festive artwork decorates the walls and the glow of painted lights and intricate curtains accent the ambiance with touches of the exotic. The friendly staff considers your dining experience to be their top priority, treating their customers like royalty.
The Blue Nile in Ferndale is truly an unforgettable culinary experience. Significant in the Ethiopian culture is gursha- eating from the same plate and sharing the same bread (called injera). People who eat from the same plate and break bread together will create a bond of friendship and personal loyalty.
Comfortable, colorful Ethiopian restaurant featuring all-you-can-eat platters & honey wine.

Amazing! This was my first time eating Ethiopian food, and it was great! We went here for a birthday, and we ordered the veggie platter!

We’ve had Ethiopian food in DC, Virginia, and all over the country—and Blue Nile absolutely holds its own.
The flavors are rich, balanced, and authentic. The injera is spot on—fresh, perfectly textured, and just the right tang. Every dish has depth, from the lentils to the meats.
Beyond the food, the family running the restaurant makes the experience special. Warm, welcoming, and genuinely kind. The service is exceptional without being overbearing—just attentive and thoughtful.
This isn’t just a “good find.” It’s the kind of place you come back to again and again. We’ll definitely be here… a lot.

As it should be.. the staff and owners were consistently hospitable, accommodating and nice to us no matter how many times we asked for things and asked questions. By default you eat the Ethiopian way with your hands using the injera bread and there’s an option for a gluten free teff bread as well. A courtesy hot towels service is provided to better clean your hands before and after eating. You can get yourself a separate plate and silverware only by request. We requested plates, silverware and serving spoons bc we were a group of 8 and it just made us more comfortable to eat off our own plates with our hands, bread and/or forks. I’ve never tried the meat dishes here before but others in the restaurant seem to enjoy it. I have been a couple of times for the plant based vegan feast and it’s absolutely delicious!! You get 7 different authentic Ethiopian cooked vegetables and you can add on the fresh salad. It’s all you can eat and they’ll keep bringing more of whatever you like. The price is right, where else are you going to have all you can eat, seven different dishes all for around $25?! They also have delicious dairy free sorbet in different flavors. The atmosphere is colorful and cozy, feels like you’re in another country. I would highly recommend this place to vegans and meat eaters.

Amazing food and eating experience as always, however the older light-haired woman who was our server put a real damper on the whole meal. She had an angry mood from the start, as if she either really disliked us or REALLY did not like her job. She explained nothing, had a constant annoyed look on her face, was very hard to track down to request refills on certain dishes (we had to politely ask other servers after waiting more than 20 minutes of her being MIA), and when she was rarely around she would hit us with passive aggressive phrasing like “give me your glass” to make a quick water refill or just slop our warm hand towels down in front of us. It’s hard to really convey without sounding like an ungrateful customer, but I pretty much never eat at restaurant and have a bad enough time with something to be worth posting about, so take that how you will.
I love this place! Except for this one particular server.

A perfect restaurant. Family run by folks who make you feel like instant family. The environment is warm, quaint, and filled to the brim with character. The food options are delicious, cost affordable, facilities impeccably clean, and the service is on a level above and beyond the norm. The Blue Nile is a beaming gem in this community.

It’s such a beautiful establishment! Don’t go there ordering the vegetarian platter thinking you can carry out because you cannot. The food is delicious but the service is slow, I’m not sure why when it wasn’t even that busy but hey, I was happy with the food so that’s all that matters. I highly recommend for vegetarians! A great date night vibe or if you’re catching up with someone. The staff is friendly and their uniforms were very nice.

Everything was absolutely phenomenal. Not a single thing on the whole platter was less than incredible. Pricing is fair. A few other reviews mention you can’t bring home leftovers but it’s all you can eat and that’s pretty standard and to be expected. The staff was friendly and service was fast. Can’t wait to come back.
