I’d been to the Hardin Valley location before, but this was my first time at the Choto store. It was good.
I had the Cuban sandwich, but substituted yellow mustard for the spicy brown. I got it to go, so I was able to also add sliced pickles and pickled jalapenos when I got it home. It was $16, but good. The ciabatta bread was softer than I’m used to, but really went well with the sando. Those beer-battered fries are Amazing! Even after it sat for a while (I was working and grazing), the fries were still crispy and tasty.
I had a $6 pint while I waited for my togo order, and the bar staff were friendly and professional. They also included free chips and salsa in my order, and offered them to me while I sat at the bar drinking my beer and awaiting my sammich.
Overall, even though it was more than I usually like to spend (understandable post-COVID, and with our current spring 2025 economy), I would definitely revisit. Enjoy!

I placed an online order for pick up. Showed up before the estimated time, food was already ready. The place was very busy but picking up my order was a breeze. Oh the the food was amazing. This will be my #1 spot to go to for fresh Mexican style food in the Knoxville area!

Excellent experience on a Wednesday night with a party of seven at the Choto establishment. We were seated promptly, and waters, chips and salsa were provided quickly. Server was polite, hardworking and very kind to our kids. Margaritas were excellent and the chips were crispy, fresh, and hot. My nondairy child loathed going to a Mexican restaurant until he tried his Carne Asada with a side of fries! He is now looking forward to going back soon. Everyone’s meal was excellent. Atmosphere is great and the folks working there are polite and friendly. We will be back.

Very cute place on our drive around the lakes! We decided to stop in for the margaritas and a snack. They had a nice out outdoor seating area. I sent Keith to check if they were “pet friendly ” and when he walked up there was a big sign that said “pet friendly patio” so we knew this was the place for us! As we always travel with our toy poodle, Jolie Fleur.
The food was wonderful, service was excellent and the margaritas were kick butt! I highly recommend to stop in if your in the area!

The quality of food has deteriorated within the last year. It’s a shame as this place used to good. Ordered the fajitas and they came out lukewarm, plus the chicken was extremely salty. The quesadilla had no flavor. Very disappointed with Don Gallo.

Free chips and salsa
Relatively inexpensive
Negatives:
No waiting area
Extremely loud
Very crowded

Don Gallo food wise is a bit inconsistent.. but the service is always great. They are very friendly. Lately it feels they have stepped up their game in the food department… but a few times we have been there its been totally off. Will continue to give them business and update review as i see fit. Id give 3.5 stars as of now.

The highest praise belongs with their food. The Enchiladas are simply incredible. Even the simple salsa is bursting with freshness and addictive to eat.
The service left much to be desired between awkward silences and a vanishing waitress, which felt odd as we were only 1 of 3-4 tables in the entire restaurant with plenty of staff.

I can’t believe I haven’t been here before. I had the veggie quesadilla. It was probably the best I’ve had anywhere in Knoxville. It wasn’t overfilled. There was just enough cheese. The service was great and the atmosphere is super chill. Definitely recommend.

The chicken and steak was really good in our meals. If you like small local Mexican restaurants, you will probably like this one. Be ready to pay double the cost though. I always hate places who say they charge for chips. I think it looks so cheap. This place is pretty small. No problems with our food or service. Just basic.
