First impression wasn’t great! The young man working seemed oblivious. Didn’t greet me even though I sat down at the counter right in front of him. Never made eye contact or said anything for several minutes. The home made hot sauce saved the day. Exceptional and hot. Hot! An adult female came out of the back and noticed me right away. I’m assuming she’s the owner. She seemed tuned in. As I waited for my food I observed her and she’s good, engaging customers and giving the young man stuff to do.aybr he’s new. I’m torn on how many stars to give them. Very mixed experience. The avocado on my vegi skillet was over ripe, mushy and tastes awful. Should not have been served. The house hot sauce was exceptional. The device was mixed. The bldg is cool, an old bank, but feels a bit old and grimy. The air vents in the ceiling are filthy. That’s what tipped the scale for me. 3 to 3.5 stars.at.most.

Cute little cafe. Wonderful service and great food. I noticed they also have a takeout menu. The food was delicious and priced well. We will be back!

We stopped here a couple of months ago to try somewhere different for breakfast, and it was so good and reasonably priced, heading north today we stopped again! Great varied menu, cool location in an old bank, and good service. If you are in the area and want a good substantial meal for a fair price – this is the place!! My hubby especially loves the hashbrowns!!

Great tasting food and friendly staff. I go there regularly for breakfast or lunch. Their portions are all large…..except for French fries. They have the best Reuben I have ever had, just not enough fries.

Very cute and quaint. Was crowded but expected as it was Saturday brunch time. Had to share a large table (3 of them, 5 of us) but they were very nice and social as needed. I ordered the Cubano sandwich and it was delicious. Ham was thick and tasted great. Sister had the eggs Benedict and enjoyed immensely. Best thing was it took us minutes to get there. We’re unsure why it took us that long to go. Will return soon!

Was out shopping for furniture today. Got hungry, and a gentleman who worked at the store recommended this place. I am SO happy he did!
This place is absolutely delicious!!! Walking into this cafe, you see its charm. It used to be a bank. Huge vaults that the staff run in and out of.
The staff greeted us with personable warmth.
I had the ghost pepper carnitas breakfast burrito. It had peppers, onions, eggs, carnitas, and cheese on the inside with fresh tomatoes and avocado on the outside. The tortilla was beautifully crisped. Drizzled in hot honey. This was an epic explosion of tastiness. I highly recommend it. On the way out, the waitress asked if we wanted to try their homemade camel roll. Even though we were full, how can you resist?! They just came out of the oven! The smell was intoxicating. The way you can pull it apart and unroll it for each bite was heavenly. Melts in your mouth. What a happy spot for comfort food.
Great food. Great service. Can’t wait to go back.

First time at Merchants Cafe today; great location near I-35, immediate service, and food came very quickly. Onion rings are tasty, BLT standard, and French toast was fresh. The building is a renovated old bank, and they’ve done a nice job holding onto some of the bank features like vault doors, woodwork, and light fixtures. It’s a simple no-nonsense small town cafe!

The Perfect Little Date Spot
My son and I live near North Branch, and today we decided to venture into town and stop by Merchants—easily the best decision of the day!
From the moment we sat down, the experience was wonderful. The server thoughtfully brought over paper and crayons for my son, which kept him happily entertained while we waited for our food. That small but meaningful gesture made us feel so welcome!
We shared the Merchants French Toast Sandwich, and it was absolutely divine. The strawberry cream cheese filling was rich and creamy, the French toast was perfectly cooked, and the whipped cream was pure happiness in fluffy form! We also tried a blueberry muffin, which was buttery, fluffy, and topped with the perfect sugary crumble.
This cozy little corner of North Branch has officially become our new favorite date spot, and we couldn’t be happier! With so many delicious options on the menu, we can’t wait to come back and try something new—though I may have a hard time resisting that French toast again!

I have no idea how they get 4+ stars here. It must be the waitresses who were great. The food was bad. My “prime rib French dip” looked like leftover Arby’s and tasted like it. The “loaded mashed” potatoes were laughable. They looked like microwave instant. Nothing loaded about them. Maybe that’s what passes for a decent meal in these parts. They were avidly apologetic, but that doesn’t make a good place to eat……
