After travelling Southern USA to experience and research different smokehouse meats, we found ourselves an official pit-master and opened our first Cattle & Co Smokehouse in South Wales. Since then we’ve been immersing ourselves, learning the art of the smoker. We’re passionate about the flavours, texture and quality of the meat and we know the smoker is the key. Now we’re sharing this Cattle & Co Smokehouse experience with you.

Ordered food and told no steaks on menu, then during wait were told that one of the starters weren’t available.Ordered an alternative which took 50 minutes! When they arrived I was shocked at how disappointing the Texas Toast looked! Two of us had it and we received one small Ciabatta garlic bread which looked anaemic! For the cost this was very disappointing.
Mains then arrived very quickly . I ordered a burger with additional bacon. When I looked under the bun I found the smallest piece of bacon I’d ever seen and this cost £2-3?? I found a cheese slice which was meant to be smothered American cheese! Burgers were tasteless . My son had a chicken burger and his bacon was cremated so couldn’t eat it.
Not impressed at all. Obviously under staffed in kitchen due to NYE but that’s no excuse. Won’t be coming here again, Food quality was poor especially for the price..
Food really poor. Heard good things about this place so 1st time coming.
Pork belly burnt ends were over cooked ane hard tasted like synthetically smoked rather than like really smoked food. (Honestly they tasted like a green pepperoni)
Chicken wings were nice and them and the chips were they only good thing about the meal)
Burgers – That cheap meat that you used to have in school dinners describes the burgers perfectly, tasteless and chewy like cardboard. Was so disappointed with the burgers. Ordered bacon with it – £2 got 1 tiny strip
The coleslaw had no seasoning or flavour.
Brisket was the worst. Just like the pork belly burnt ends, friend couldn’t even eat this part of meal.
It wasn’t even busy but everything took so long to come. Really don’t mind waiting for good food but the food was so poor. Wouldn’t return.

Tucked inside the Rake & Riddle, Cattle & Co brings Southern American ranch vibes right to the Gower coast – alongside its foodie siblings The Welsh House & Salvatore’s Pizzeria.
✨ What we tried:
Nachos – Tortilla chips with nacho cheese sauce, salsa, guac & sour cream. We get that this is the American saucy style – but when we think “nachos,” we picture textured, chunky toppings. Still, these didn’t lack flavour and were a tasty enough start.
Texan Toast – An American twist on garlic bread that didn’t touch the sides… buttery, garlicky perfection.
Hot Honey Buttermilk Chicken – Sticky, smoky, BBQ perfection. The kind of sauce you find yourself scraping the plate for.
Smoked 14-Hour Brisket – Melt-in-the-mouth tender, dripping in rich brisket gravy. You can taste the patience in every bite.
Kids’ Mac & Cheese – An instant hit with our little one. Comfort in a bowl.
Triple Chocolate Cake & Mario’s Ice Cream – A choc lover’s dream, indulgent but not heavy.
Verdict: If you’re after big flavours, comfort food and Southern-style portions – Cattle & Co will hit the spot. That hot honey chicken is worth the trip alone.
Would you go brisket or chicken here?
So after waiting for about an hour and a half and the food had still not arrived, we decided to leave, I paid for the 2 drinks and starter that was received.
The staff were friendly and the waiter who took care of us was good but everyone else seemed to be rushed off their feet. Like I said the restaurant wasn’t that busy so I don’t know why things were taking so long.
I had people having to leave or giving up on their desserts because the wait was so long which wasnt what we were expecting.
Mostly the food was nice but one of the steaks was overdone which we didn’t dare send back given how long it took to get it in the first place. The lemon and herb chicken wasnt great either.
We ordered a starter to go with the mains and mentioned this when we got there. It then came out then as a starter not as a main. My friend then had to wait for her chips long after we had started our mains.
We had to ask for cutlery and sauces.
The staff were lovely and really apologetic. The issues we had were mostly the kitchen not the staff out front. We did get our desserts for free but the choc cake wasnt anything special. There were only 4 of us left for desserts out of 11 because of the wait.
We got a little bit of money off the meal but we still paid over £90 just for us 4 despite the issues. We were told that we would get a voucher emailed to us to come back because of the issues however this hasn’t happened yet. It is still early the next day so we will see if that transpires.
Such a shame as the place has potential. Im not sure if the 3 companies are operating out of the same kitchen. If they are, I think this needs to be looked at as its clearly not working for them.
Absolutely amazing food, such good value for money! i phoned up and asked if they had any dips and unfortunately they said they don’t have anything to put them in for takeaway, so i was surprised when they gave me sauces in the actual sauce pots they use in the restaurant!! aswell as little sauce sachets very appreciative of extra effort they went to.
Will definitely be returning
Thank you very much to the chefs and the lady on the phone
