INCREDIBLE.

Perfect blend of cosy pub and incredible seafood.

I wish I lived closer to this gem. The tagliatelle with haddock and smoked mussels was the best fish dish I’ve ever had. Really fresh ingredients, beautiful flavour and well presented. If I lived just 2 hours away from this place I would drive back just for this dish.

We had the salmon and caviar to start which was also amazing.

10/10

We had an amazing meal at Dreel Tavern. The tavern itself has a great atmosphere. The food was great with a fab variety of specials, lots of veggie options too. The staff were lovely and attentive. We will definitely be back.

We visited on Saturday 14th February in the afternoon as a group of five. We had two rounds of drinks between us one round included a coffee nothing out of the ordinary.

When I asked for the bill, I was presented with a total of £90.26, which is extremely expensive for what we had. I paid by card.

Moments later, we discovered that my husband who has left first with the dog had already paid the bill. The staff had somehow processed a second payment without realising the bill had already been paid. This should not happen. There appeared to be no system in place to check whether a bill had already been settled.

After several minutes of confusion behind the bar, I was refunded, but in cash. I had paid by card and asked for it to be refunded back onto my card, which is standard practice. I was told this wasn’t possible, with no proper explanation and no meaningful apology.

The whole situation was poorly handled and unprofessional:
• The pricing was excessive for what we ordered.
• Staff failed to recognise that the bill had already been paid.
• A card payment was refunded in cash, which is not appropriate practice.

What should have been a pleasant afternoon ended in frustration. Very disappointing.

For accuracy, I was asked where we were sitting — I was not asked whether anyone else had already paid the bill. There were four of us standing at the bar, and at no point was that question put to me.

The duplicate payment only came to light because my daughter mentioned to my husband outside that I was paying, and he then returned to say he had already settled the bill.

It is important that events are represented correctly.

A fabulous old cosy pub serving excellent food with really friendly staff providing a first class service. Our mackerel linguine mains were packed with flavour and a fine sticky toffee pudding to finish off.

Visited for lunch and a few drinks with friends. Decent beers and a guest ale on, can’t recall the name but it was smashing. Service was fantastic, super friendly. The building itself is super old and atmospheric. Food was class. The crab linguine really filled me up and was a delight to eat especially with the heat from the chilli’s. Crab and asparagus is a good combo. As a first time tourist, I found the parking in Anstruther to be challenging. Whatever you do, don’t go down the hill. Park somewhere uphill. I parked by the Co-Op. If you do venture down toward the sea, there are a lot of car parks but in my experience they were all full and it was a tight little road I had to go all the way down to get turned around!

We have wanted to try this place for a while after trying to get in by just turning up, but it’s always busy. This time, we pre-booked a table. We parked in the street up from the pub and walked down. There was road works on the footpath in front of the pub, which directed pedestrians onto the main road, not very good as this is a busy road. We entered the pub, beware if you are tall, this pub was built years ago, so the lintles are very low. The pub is your classic fisherman’s pub, all stone with wooden beams. We were taken to our table, and soon after, a server took our drinks and food order. My Cullen skink was really nice, my wife’s soup tasty. Our mains were both sirloin steaks, although not on the menu our server did say there was rib eye available as well. Mine was to be well done. My wife’s was medium to well. However, the server mixed these up, and we had to swap plates. My steak seemed to get pinker as I worked my way along it, so not quite well done all the way through. The chips, although salty, were good. We found it to be a bit pricey for the food that was served and the hilarity coming from the kitchen on that night probably contributed to the poorer quality of food. The servers were polite, prompt and well presented but service was let down by the mistake with the steaks. The toilets, although clean, were a bit tired looking and in need of an update. The hand wash and lotion smelled really nice.

Epically old tavern serving plenty choices of ales, spirits and great food.
It has a sunny beer garden out the back that looks down onto a burn.
The place supposedly once housed King James V back in the 1500s.
Definitely worth running up a tab in this tavern, must be one of the oldest pubs in the UK, soak up the history!

We enjoyed a lovely, convivial dinner at the Dreel on Saturday night but I was compelled to post by the level of service we enjoyed given we both had food allergies. I had alerted them at time of booking but they took the time to produce a menu each with food we could eat or could be adapted. The staff made us feel welcome and not a nuisance! We love the Dreel due to it’s cosy ambience in Winter and Beer Garden in Summer. We will definitely be troubling them again!

We have visited this restaurant numerous times since it was taken over, revamped and loved it however, cost cutting and service charging have now crept into this business.
I did trust this restaurant’s kitchen to use prime Fish, (not farmed), grass fed beef and high quality vegetables, but sadly no more and the reason being profit driven??
Is this why they are now using farmed fish (not the most environmentally friendly nor health giving due to the chemicals injected into the fish and feed used, not to mention the conditions they are kept in).
The second issue I now have is the 12.5% service charge????? Hidden away, not on the specials board, not on the hand written discounted menus but at the very end of the main menu after the dessert section!
When discussing this situation with the totally uninformed uneducated waiter he explained “well you have chosen from the special deal menu so that cancels it out!” and “95% don’t see it and give us tips anyway” what an attitude.
Ifthis is now the business model REMEMBER people vote with their feet and their wallet so PLEASE get back to good honest food and values you are already way more expensive than any other restaurant in the area and this is not being reflected in the produce used, service and hidden 12.5% service charge.
