Lodgelike, yet upscale, steakhouse featuring charcoal-grilled meats & seafood, plus a wine list.

Stopped here after touring Paisley Park so I had to order the Purple Rain cocktail. It was delicious, potent and great presentation. The French onion soup was very good, I also had the lobster roll. That was perfectly seasoned and was served with the most delicious, in house sea salt Potato chips. It was more than enough food and I had to bring g home the leftovers. My husband had the Margarita flat bread made with all fresh ingredients. He got the lunch special French onion soup and the prime rib French dip. He loved all of it!

Had a good meal here last night. Not too busy on a Tuesday but our drinks took a while. I love the swing music jazz they play, makes me think of the Rat pack or something. My spicy chicken penne pasta was great, very creamy. The appetizers (walleye fingers, bull balls or something, and fried shrimp) were very bar like. My Caesar salad was good too. Once I finally got it my martini was excellent!

Update:
After having a disappointing first experience at Axel’s I decided to give it another try. This time I tried dinner. Again, the host was extremely friendly and welcoming. The server, Ashley J was very busy bit still took great care of our table. She was friendly, funny, and polite. The food was so much better this time around. Not sure I’ll be back for happy hour but the steak here is definitely worth the stop.
I was excited to try Axel’s happy hour but unfortunately it was not a great experience. Walking in, it felt very clicky with the few customers that were present. We sat up at the bar and we were the only people bellied up except for one other customer. The bartender was carrying on a conversation with this customer until the customer finally had to motion to him to greet us. Another employee then greeted us and asked how we were doing, prompting the bartender to turn his head to greet us )he was standing 4 feet from is). His following interactions were very transactional and short. We had to ask for a happy hour menu and then sat in silence until our happy hour appetizers arrived, which took an incredible amount of time considering the place was empty. The deviled eggs had a very odd taste and consistency. The whites were very chewy and rubbery- indicating they were old. The filling was sour and I found a chunk of something white in one of the eggs- it was a hard ball that resembled cheese but it was only in one out of many. Potato skins tasted old and were bone-dry as the cheese topping had every ounce of moisture broiled out of it. The steakhouse sliders were the shining star. The host was great. She was welcoming and friendly. Beyond her, it was like being at a bar in a dystopian future. I overheard that new owners were taking over so I’ll return to give it another shot.

I’ve ate here many times over the past 8 years and this is one of my favorite restaurants. Presently reduced the menu, but Axel’s never disappoints in a clean and inviting restaurant that looks nothing like the interior of a casual theme restaurant. Had steaks, prime rib, soup, salads, and sandwiches. My last visit was Sunday dinner and I ordered an appetizer and a burger. The bacon cheeseburger which is on a brioche bun at $16 was excellent and is cheaper than Houlihan’s, TGI Friday’s, and the money goes to a local business and not to Houston or Dallas.
Finally, went and had Thanksgiving lunch and sat at the bar watching football. Bar service was nothing short of amazing and I have to be honest and say that if you’re into mixed drinks this is the place to go because you actually get a true pour of alcohol and the price I think was $7 for a Tito’s and orange juice? The Thanksgiving meal started with a salad, and the main course consisted of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, and last but not least cranberry sauce and a slice of pie.

Feels like a old fashion supper club. felt a bit lonely when we arrived but someone eventually greeted us. I was expecting more of a fine dining exp. I heard this place was awesome, just feels like it might be slipping a bit. Good fir a biz meeting maybe not a special occasion.

The restaurant has a private booth for Prince and was supposedly one of his personal favorites. We asked if we could sit in his private booth and they obliged with no problem, that was really cool! Service the entire time was good.
The food left a lot to be desired. We ordered a salad for an appetizer and they served the salad and the food at the same time. Food was not really hot. The Ciopppino was supposed to have fish, clams, mussels, scallops, shrimp, and crab. There was no fish, crab, or clams. When I asked she said the no longer give pieces they cook it in the broth… French onion soup had untoasted very soggy bread. The beet salad was good. Drinks were horrible. I would go in take pics of the booth and leave…

My boy friend and I dined here after a whirlwind tour of Paisley Park and thrifting at Goodwill in Chan. I must say that as a girl in the south, I had never had Wall eye, so I was excited! We had a wonderful, gracious server who greeted us promptly. I was not familiar with the pop overs, but she and my better half described them to me. They were lovely as described. One serving of them was enough between us. We shared two salads. One house, one caesar, and a side of the bull bites. They were absolutely delightful. They had 2 dipping sauces which were the homemade horse radish and the bernaisse. We thoroughly enjoyed those and would recommend them! Then, of course we ordered the parmessean crusted wall eye and split that. The piece du resistance was definitely the Bailey’s cake. We were hoping to have the apple cake with Ice cream and caramel sauce. But what an incredible dessert this was . Top notch for sure! Our server was as well . 5 star service, food and atmosphere! I can see why my better half raved about this place for sure! We definitely intend upon returning here. We saw the ad for Mother’s Day brunch . I live in SC. If Mom visits here for a special occasion, we will no doubt bring her and Dad here !

Came here for the first time to attend Easter brunch 2019. Great variety of food including prime rib, crab & penne, custom made omelets, cheesy hash browns, delicious breaded walleye, and more. Plus for 10 dollars more you can get unlimited mimosas which sadly I couldn’t partake in. I’m coming back next year!
