Reviews
I made a reservation months in advance to celebrate my mother’s birthday. When we arrived, we were informed (for the first time) that a special event was taking place in the main dining room. Rather than being seated in the restaurant as expected, we were told our only option was to sit alone in a small back room with no atmosphere, no music, and completely separated from the restaurant experience.
At no point prior to our arrival was I notified about this event. I was never given the opportunity to join the event or adjust my reservation accordingly. Had I been informed, I would have gladly paid to participate with the other guests.
Instead, after carefully planning this celebration months ahead of time, we were left with the choice of sitting in a small, isolated room with no ambiance or leaving altogether. We chose to leave.
For a restaurant that presents itself as a destination for special occasions, the lack of communication and consideration was unacceptable. A birthday dinner we had looked forward to for months was reduced to a complete disappointment.
All of this was communicated to the manager on-site, who did not offer us any solution, and quite frankly didn’t seem bothered at all.
Food was not good.
All vegetables were steamed, unseasoned, and undercooked.
Steak dish didn’t have salt, was blue although we asked for medium rare, and had 3 different sauces that didn’t work together at all. Plus some weird walnut ‘thing’ that just tasted bad.
Duck ‘confit’ was dry and overcooked. Did not taste like confit.
Risotto was undercooked with hard pieces of rice.
Mushroom consomme was good but rather one note by only using white button mushrooms. The parmesan chip added depth and some additional umami.
Macarons were not at all well made. The meringue had collapsed in the baking process making them dense and chewy. Filling lacked structure and was squeezed out of the meringue biscuits when biting. I don’t recommend they continue making macarons in house if they keep coming out like this.
Service was to be expected for a gourmet restaurant. Nothing special for what you pay.
Atmosphere was okay but nothing special.
Secondly the ligting is so sparse I could barely see the faces of the people I was dining with. Same with the food set in front of me. I had to taste and then guess what I was eating. The potato-stack served as side dish with the fish was rock hard and once you cracked it open the oily layers inside tasted like weekold stale potato.
I decided to skip the boring dessert menu. To end the meal I asked for hot chocolate.
I do not know what type of milk was used to make it: soymilk?goatmilk?camelmilk? Whatever they used was also sour….. I asked my husband to taste and he refrained to comment, so as not to further embarrass our host. I sent it back. No-one enquired if anything was wrong with it.
The evening started disastrously and ended disastrously. Inbetween was utterly disappointing…
To top it all off, our car was nearly rammed into at the very unsafe and dark intersection of Aries and Delphinus road. The designated driver had imbibed absolutely no alcohol.
If you want to eat REALLY GOOD French food, go to Chef Danielle’s restaurant La Madeleine in Lynnwood……
The restaurant manager and owner was very friendly and gave us a run down of the restaurants history and how it came to be.
The food was out of this world, from the amuse-bouche to the petite fours, simply amazing, amazing job from the Chefs.
And as a fellow Chef, it was truly an amazing experience.
The restaurant itself is beautiful, South African decor, french cuisine, you can’t go wrong.
I came with my family and they thoroughly enjoyed it.
Thank you for an amazing experience.
We opted for the restaurant week menu, which was six courses and added the wine pairing. I would highly recommend wine pairing! Each of the wines were very unique and given the cost I feel it offered a lot of value. However, the food depending on the dish could be hit or miss imo. Some of the textures were a bit off for, and other dishes were a bit under seasoned for us from a flavor point of view.Having said that a lot of the items were well executed in terms of cooking. I do think ordering A la carte or the full degustation menu may be a better experience
All in all a really good experience I would say the wine and the ambience was the highlight of the evening!
