Came here on Fat Tuesday. Had a tall ranger IPA and the 10oz filet and I ordered it BLUE(1 step below rare) the chef nailed the cook and my server was great! Very attentive the prices are good being from Chicago I would normally pay much more for a filet. Highly recommend this place.

Took our daughter for her 18th birthday. We’ve probably been half a dozen times and this was our best meal there yet. Believe the lady who waited on us said she was the owner’s mom. Super nice and took great care of us. Daughter had the giant 2 inch thick pork chop and said it was amazing! Everything about the meal was excellent! Thanks Reed’s Place!

This cute little steak house has woodsy charm, and delicious marinated beef tips! I enjoyed a hearty steak salad on fresh greens with a rich, homemade ranch dressing and that extra dollop of garlic butter melted into the toast. So delicious and reasonably priced, we went 2 days in a row!

Visit on April 5, 2025 – arriving around 4:31 PM. At the time, there were several booths occupied—possibly a dozen or more—and about 10 tables sat empty.

We were seated promptly, which was appreciated. The atmosphere is open, but it does not convey the ambiance one would expect from a high end steakhouse.

A major issue that immediately stood out was that restroom access is through the kitchen. In my opinion, this is unsanitary and concerning. The path runs directly by areas where food is being prepped, and it creates a clear opportunity for contamination—intentional or not. That alone raises red flags about food safety practices.

We ordered two filet mignons, each priced at $29.99 and advertised as 10-ounce cuts. My steak, ordered medium well, was rubbery and severely overcooked—closer to well-done than what I requested. The second filet in our party, also ordered medium well, arrived medium instead. While it was slightly better, it still wasn’t prepared as requested.

All the steaks were served with some type of butter on top. This was not mentioned on the menu and didn’t enhance the flavor or presentation—if anything, it detracted from the dish.

We added macaroni and cheese as a premium side at an additional cost, but it was served cold. The baked potato, requested with sour cream and ranch, came with butter instead, and the ranch was entirely forgotten. There seemed to be a lack of clarity or attention from the server when entering our order.

One person in our party ordered a side salad with ranch, which had an off-putting taste—possibly homemade, but not in a good way. Additionally, the salad was made with spinach leaves instead of traditional lettuce, which may not appeal to everyone.

The one bright spot was the candied pork chops, priced at $28.99. They were flavorful and cooked well—perhaps the only item we all agreed was worth the price.

We finished the meal with dessert, but unfortunately, that also missed the mark. The chocolate cake tasted like a generic boxed mix, such as Duncan Hines, and was clearly not fresh—it was at least four days old. For that reason alone, a discount should’ve been offered. The coconut cream pie was even worse—strangely compelling in its flavor, but ultimately unpleasant. I didn’t even finish it.

* Update 4/6/25 following owner’s response:
We spoke with Karen, who confirmed the chocolate cake was not made fresh day of our visit. In fact, the cake was several days old. She stated they like to sell desserts before preparing new ones. She also confirmed chocolate cake sells quick!

Service was lacking in communication. Our waitress never brought a check and failed to mention that we were expected to walk up front to pay. A simple heads-up during the meal would’ve avoided the confusion. There also seemed to be a pattern of poor communication throughout the entire experience, from orders being entered incorrectly to the absence of important details like payment procedures.

According to their menu, the desserts and pies are “house-made,” but based on staff comments, they’re prepared on Tuesdays or Wednesdays and still served days later—meaning by the weekend, they’re far from fresh.

Final Thoughts

For the prices charged, the experience simply wasn’t worth it. Between the overcooked steaks, cold sides, questionable sanitation, and stale desserts, we left disappointed. This establishment may try to present itself as a quality dining spot, but it falls far short. Keep in mind, this is Seymour, Indiana—not a fine dining destination. If you’re looking for a high-value meal with great service, this place is not it. Save your money and eat elsewhere.

Shout-out to momma, who served use and the food was delicious.
I got the baked potato, green beans with ham, and grilled chicken salad with honey mustard.
The steak was just perfect and fries.
The place was very unique in a small town on a one-way road. A true small town charm with great food.
The best restaurants tend to be in small towns or hole in a wall.

The staff are great and I liked the small town.

Would I recommend this restaurant? Absolutely
Would I return? Absolutely

Don’t take my word for it. Go see for yourself!

Nice little local spot for steaks downtown Seymour Indiana. Stopped in for dinner, Menu is limited to dinner options, looked like some good options on the lunch menu, sandwiches etc.
Porterhouse was thinner but cooked well and a good piece of meat.
Smoke bone in chop got a pass from the old man. Lots of homeade dessert options.
Good stop.

I visited Reed’s place for the first time (09.19.23) for dinner with some friends and it was great! I ordered the bone in pork chop and both my friends ordered the Porterhouse T-bone. The pork chop was very tender and had lots of flavor. The T-bone was nicely cooked as well and did not require any sauces or extras. Our side were great as well. The service was superb. Our server was able to help me choose not only my beverage but which wine to try as well as pair with my entree. The atmosphere had a very welcoming vibe. When I’m back in that area, I will most definitely stop in again. This is one place you don’t want to miss.

My wife and I reserved a table and a Tomahawk. We live an hour away and really looked forward to it.
Atmosphere was great, just like the time we were there before. Wait staff attentive without hovering. Conversational, friendly.

There was a malfuction with the oven and our Tommy wasn’t done when they thought it should be. The owner ( I think) came to the table to apologize and offer a discount. We told him that wasn’t necessary. Just before the food came out he said he wasn’t comfortable with our wait time and was taking everything but our drinks off the bill. Again, we told him it was fine.

Food came out, it was all perfect, delicious, everything we had hoped for.

The bill came and it was just for our drinks. So we tipped the waitstaff $40.

We had a fantastic meal in a great gem of a restaurant. We will be back and not becasue of the discount, but because the place is awesome and worthy of an hour drive. Love it!!

Opening the door, the squeak of a times that was and memories that will be made. The home down feel adds to the quality of establishment.

Our waitress was polite, knowledgeable and attentive. Our appetizers were out within 6min and very tasty. Breaded mushrooms served with ranch and soft pretzels served with cheese. They were hot and good.

Then, 11min later our entrees came out. Steak tip Hogee with cheese and fried onions and peppers, and steak tip wrap with cheese onions peppers. Both meals had a side of coleslaw and came with chips.

Both entrees were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium and good. The coleslaw was different cut then I was used to but was good none the less.

Overall it is worth the price, great experience, good food, and nice people.
