Explorers Restaurant & Lounge

  3.9 – 64 reviews  $$ • Restaurant

A restaurant and lounge located on the 2nd floor of Royal Sonesta Harbor Court overlooking the scenic inner harbor. Explorers has a marriage of high-end food with a casual dining experience. Through the use of locally sourced farms as well as Maryland staples such as the traditional crab cake and a pan seared rockfish. Try the signature Honey Wings prepared with product harvested from the hotel’s own apiary. Did you know we have 50,000 honey bees on our 7th floor apiary? The excess honey is harvested for use in our Chef’s creative recipes and our Bee’s Knees cocktail which are un-BEE-lievable! Lastly, the bar’s focus point is the barrel aged whiskey using local and national whiskeys aged right on location.

Upscale, safari-themed lounge in the Royal Sonesta Harbor Court with regional fare & ample scotches.

We stayed at the Royal Sonesta and saw there was the Explorers restaurant inside the hotel. We were a bit unsure of to try the restaurant due to the lower reviews, but glad we did.

We had the Salmon and the Mediterranean Chicken. The salmon was cooked perfectly and the chicken was juicy and done just right.

We had the Apple Tart with vanilla ice cream for desert. The Apple Tart was fresh, warm and very tasteful.

We recommend giving this little gem a try.

The view was fantastic as well, you can look out and see in the Inner Harbor of Baltimore.

We ate breakfast here.
Our food took a while to come, but not a problem, nobody’s fault. Just a bit longer than expected, since there were very few people there.
Good service, otherwise, everyone was very nice.
Food was good. Nothing special, normal breakfast food. The pancakes were very good though.
Overall good hotel breakfast, and would recommend if you are staying here.

Cool decor, reasonable food, nice staff. Pretty standard hotel restaurant, and not really a destination of any sort. They are open late so I would say definitely an above average later dinner option.

The buffalo cauliflower was a bit salty but tasty. Hummus was normal. My partner had an above average burger. The drinks are strong.

This restuarant has attitude. Not a nice attitude
The waiter, Juan, was rude and justifying his bad attitude.
Juan, would not break up the check for 6 people (nor did he ask at the beginning if we wanted it billed separately). When he refused to break up the bill, one of our party started manually listing each person and their order on a napkin. The waiter commented ‘that is your job’. Shocking!! He was so rude, not asked normal customer service such questions, than was biligerent.
The manager, Paris, fixed the issue with a smile. She was delightful.
Food was good. Restuarant was empty.
Hmmmm makes you wonder if this kind of poor service is why the restuarant is empty.
I do not recommend this restuarant because the treatment was disheartening. We left frustrated and fabergasted.

PS Juan seemed to take a picture of our table and party. Hmmm afraid of something?
Than Juan started arguing loudly with his own manager, Kevin. Wow!! In public. This is crazy.

Ate here while staying at the royal sonesta and the service was good, the waiters were attentive. But the drinks and food left a lot to be desired. The crab cake on my wife’s salad was burnt and mushy (inexcusable for Maryland). My crab soup was Luke warm. The shishito peppers were nothing special, and bland. And my branzino was unseasoned along with the sides. Lack of seasoning throughout the whole dinner made the food just sub par. There are restaurants next door, I’d recommend eating there first, if possible.

Kelly served us our first breakfast, and Deborah our second. Marcus helped us select an evening dessert and our wines. Tevin provided great help as well regarding serving and clearing. Our food was well portioned, delicious, and served in a fair amount of time– quality food does not pop out of a freezer pr microwave. Thank you to all of the men and women who helped us enjoy good food and service on our vacation. We appreciate you.

Staff is very attentive and tries hard to please, but the food is just meh. We had the crab soup, Caesar salad and the burger. Bar drink prep was mediocre (had a Manhattan and a Gin Gimlet). Nice dining area with reasonable street view.

We almost didn’t come because of the 3.7 stars but very glad we did. I’m not big on seafood but the crab cakes were delicious. The Mediterranean chicken was tender, juicy and so full of flavor I kept saying “wow.” Staff was attentive and pleasant.

Staff was very courteous, and the food and drinks were prepared and served well. However, some of the food was very overpriced, wait times were long, and hotel did not have adequate staff hired to receive and manage guests in a timely manner.

Everything delivered was a vague approximation of what was ordered, chicken was tougher than a hockey puck, appetizers arrived at same time as entrees. Missing elements on every dish. Finished eating before a 2 bite check back even occurred. Incredibly disappointing for the price point. Only went because we were staying in the hotel. Spend your money on delivery instead.
