Val’s Diner is an eating establishment designed for those who want a quick breakfast or lunch served with a smile. I dined here one morning during a beer tour of Central New York and I found much to like about this simple yet nice restaurant establishment.

First, let’s talk about the location because it is unique. Val’s Diner is located inside a bus terminal, making it a popular option for travelers as they arrive from a bus excursion or right before they depart. I like how they have the bus schedule announcements right inside the restaurant. You can hear them on the speaker, which is perfect for those who want to grab a bite to eat but don’t want to have to worry that they might miss their bus.

Next, the atmosphere. It is a diner in every sense and it has that look one associates with this type of restaurant. The sky blue colored walls, checkered tile floors, and bar stools without back supports are just what you expect in a diner. There isn’t a ton of seating, but because it is part of a bus terminal, I can’t imagine it ever gets extremely busy.

I was here for breakfast and I ordered an omelet, toast, and home fries. The food was served relatively quickly and it tasted fresh and good. The jelly is served in packets and I added a dab to my toast along with a small amount of catsup on my fries. I finished the entire contents of my plate in a short time and left feeling satisfied.

Diners are not as common as other types of restaurants, but they exude a certain charm and make a nice change of pace from the usual restaurant. Val’s Diner is a cool place for breakfast or lunch and great for those who are traveling by bus and need something to eat. Even if you’re not using the bus terminal, Val’s Diner is a good place for a simple meal and I’m glad I discovered this friendly diner here in Binghamton, New York.

Our 1st time eating here. Definitely not our last. Food was excellent, waitress and cook were very pleasant. This is my new lunch or breakfast ( served all day) spot.
Affordable prices and well portioned. I was very impressed.

I was delivering an Uber Eats order. When I entered the restaurant, it seemed like no one was in there and I could not find the food. I thought maybe someone is in the restroom, so I waited about 5 minutes. Proceeded to knock on the door and a lady responded “yes”, so I waited a little longer. About 10 minutes pass, she comes out and I say “hello”. I’m completely ignored. She goes to the kitchen for a few and then comes back to the counter to get something and I inform her that I’m picking up an order. With an attitude she responded, “I’m not the waitress. Someone will come and help you. I’m the chef and I don’t work up there”. I wait for more time until the lady (assumed she was the “waitress”) walks in through the door. I was the one to greet her and told her I had been waiting for a while. There was no sense of urgency and professionalism from this establishment.

Note: a lot of the pictures and reviews for this establishment are not for the restaurant currently there and being managed today.

When I lived in Binghamton, NY 2015, & before Family’s Diner was my actual favorite one there. Was relaxing in my opinion, the food was good, not expensive, & the waitresses were very nice. The best part is how it looked. Old fashioned. I always liked older looking Diners.
I hope you are still doing well.

Place was deserted and we were the only ones in the place and still waitress forgot my O.J. and she didn’t check on us once,we had to ask for more coffee and decided on rap music for the diner speakers. She proceeded to explain to My wife and child and I she had a hangover and was out drinking all night…Very unprofessional and her brushing her hair behind counter was another sign that this establishment won’t last long at all…. Stay away from the corn beef hash as I believe it tastes
like ALPO dog food would….

While waiting for my food; I heard the waiter tell a customer “decide what you what, because I’m not gonna play this guessing game” and she walked away. I also heard the cook tell the waiter: “don’t give me another order while I’m already doing one.” They either need another cook or she needs to learn how to make more than one thing at a time. Also what the waiter said to that customer was very rude and uncalled for. She needs a change of attitude. I had a chicken bone in my food when all I ordered was eggs, turkey bacon and fries. I also ordered mozzarella sticks which I never received. Other than that the food wasn’t bad.

I sat in the front counter for 2 minutes and very politely yet clearly signaled the waitress more than 3 times with direct eye contact, but she completely ignored me. It was rude, I live in China and studied in Japan, I’ve never seen such a thing happen. The restaurant has a good look, but this experience completely ruined it. In American standard I should give only 1 star, but I’m giving 2 for politeness’s sake. They really should change their way of treating customers.

Not only was the waitress rude to me, I also saw her refuse to serve a black man because she doesn’t “serve his kind”. Unreal in today’s day and age, especially in Binghamton, no less. Hopefully she’s gone by now. Food was adequate and atmosphere was fine.
