I had high hopes for this spot as there are two really good BBQ places about 15 minutes north and south of Novato, it would have been great to have something in our town. Upon entering we were cheerfully greeted by the cashier to whom I explained it was our first visit. She told us we could order from the board or take some menus to look over and come back to place our orders.
We got a salad, sliders, fries, tacos, a side of mac, and 3 drinks. The total was around $55.00. It seemed a little on the pricey side, but I was excited to try some new food.
The wait wasn’t long, but the food didn’t come out together either.
The fries were old, or really under cooked not hot at all. My friend got the tacos, they were out of pork belly so brisket was substituted. The meat seemed old as well.
My sliders were okay, except the pickle is on top of the bun so note to self: as soon as they come, take it off or the bun will be soggy by the time you eat it. The wedge salad and mac seemed to be the only thing getting an “OK” review.
I don’t think I’ll be returning, the food and cost were not great for what you get which is a let down. I really, really enjoy the Speakeasy on the other side of town. I had thought they were affiated.

I was super excited for a BBQ spot in novato. We needed it. The staff was really nice and the decor was cool. My problem is the food is priced like high end cuts of meat but were really tough. They also serve the steak on a metal pan with paper under it so the paper gets shredded and in your food. I feel bad giving a review like this but I just wish it was so much more. Maybe I will try it again. Also the tables were really dirty and had gross stuff in the cracks.

What a great place to go! Its an interesting set up but they have great food! I ordered the ribs and brisket combo with mashed potatoes, mac n cheese and a extra corn on the cob and it was AMAZING!!!
Shot out to the owner for putting this all together. I went there on 12/29 and the place has gone through a lot of changes recently so I’m sure experiences will vary. When I was there the staff on hand was really young. Its not a bad thing but I was surprised.

BBQ chicken sandwich was EXCELLENT, especially with the Carolina Gold mustard based sauce. Friendly staff and outside eating area was heated on cold days.
Initial entry was kind of confusing at first, as there’s no clear signage or direction. You order at the counter, find a place to sit, and wait for your food to be brought to you. There’s very limited area to wait to order, so it felt a little cramped waiting to order. Call-in for take-out was nice and smooth though.

The BEST place for BBQ in Marin County (probably Sonoma too)! New menu rocks and now there is even pool table to utilize while watching the game(s).
Tried the new Southern style sweet tea brined pork loin chop topped with a roasted tomato and onion relish. Damn it was delicious!

Food is delicious. It’s become our favorite dinner spot in Novato. Ribs are always solid and the three varieties of bbq sauces are equally tasty. Staff is great too!

WAS GREST….NOW CLISED. was really fun place to go for great BBQ. Food is excellently prepared and portions are very generous. Menu is diverse enough to satisfy different desires. You order up front when you arrive, select your seating and then they diver to your table. Good for single individuals, couples and families. They prepare all menu offerings “to go” ..and have a very active take out business.
All and all…it is really a great value and fun experience. WAS A GREAT PLACE…BUT NOW CLOSED.

Gave them two opportunities but both times my meat was chewy and beans uncooked.
Edit: Returned in August 2018 and ordered the ribs. I asked to make sure they would be moist and was told it would be. However my fork bent when I put it in the meat. It was dry and inedible. They refunded my money so I’m not dropping my rating to one star.

This is a hidden gem! We haven’t been able to find great BBQ in Marin in years, and here it is! Great cole slaw, great mac and cheese, and the best beef! Scrumptious!

Ordered fish/chips & pulled pork sandwich. Cod strips were mushy with excessive batter (crispy on outside, but undercooked on inside). Pulled pork was tasteless – period! Both orders of “coleslaw” were simply sliced veggies in vinegar – period. Both meals overpriced!
