This place is really unexpectedly great. Large portions of tasty, very freshly-made Mexican and Tex-Mex fare, lots of options for vegetarians (and some for vegans!), and very friendly people running the place. Absolutely recommended for a quick meal, or for take-out, which I think most folks opt for, but they miss the great selection of soccer games.

(Yes, the place is small but it’s lovely to sit for a quick meal too!)

For an early weekday dinner, I stopped by Viva Taco. It’s easy to miss in an area replete with Latin American restaurants, though its location on a small intersection and its brightly painted exterior helped it stand out.

The establishment itself doesn’t have much space—just a small counter with bar seating by the window that fits about three people, and a single table that seats maybe six. It’s definitely more of a take-out spot. I had the place to myself, so I ordered a chicharrón burrito ($13) and fried yuca ($7). I didn’t expect to finish it all.

The burrito came out in less than five minutes. The rice was well-salted and flavorful, the plantains added a surprising sweetness, and the chicharrones were satisfyingly crispy. The pico de gallo tasted extra fresh, and the tomato salsa had that slight grit you only find in freshly made versions. This burrito was also loaded—I was full after finishing it. One small nitpick: I would have preferred a pressed tortilla for a bit more heat and structure.

About halfway through my burrito, the yuca fries arrived. They came topped with shredded lettuce and more of that fresh tomato salsa. The portion was generous here as well. None of that “five sticks of yuca for $10 at the upscale Latin American place” nonsense.

Viva Taco is neighborhood comfort food at its finest—quick and filling without sacrificing flavor, and at a reasonable price point. It might not be perfect, but it’s exactly the sort of place I wish every community had.

Cute little spot on the corner in JP friendly service! Great food. I had the quesadilla today. Freshly made pico de gallo sauce had a little heat the chiccarones were excellent! I will definitely go back to try the burritos and tacos.

Ordered the crispy tacos and they were terrible. Burnt and overly loaded with lettuce, tomato, crema and fresco to disguise how burnt they were.

Ok so it’s a nice small place, pupusa was great in flavor and cooked crispy on the outside just a little too thin, I had the al pastor tacos they were crispy, double tortilla, plenty of meat but no flavor. Horchata was just the way I like it and we also had a shrimp burrito we liked it but way too many veggies it over-powered the shrimp, maybe more shrimp less veggies or maybe no veggies. Besides that I have not tried anything else.

Food is ok — I’ve only had the salads though. Note that this review is based on general service, not the food. I tried to order online on 10/20/2025 but their system kept declining my card so I ordered over the phone and piad in person via card. I checked my bank statement later and was charged 4 times for one salad. I called to have the charges reversed and the worker who answered told me she did not speak English and no one working spoke English either, so she ended up hanging up on me. She wasnt particularly rude, she just generally seemed like she didnt understand what I needed. I understand there is a big population of Spanish-speakers so it makes sense to have Spanish-speaking staff. However, it’s unacceptable not to have at least one English-speaking or bi-lingual English/Spanish speaking worker on site during business hours for customers who don’t speak Spanish, considering that there is a big population of English speaking people in the neighborhood. There are at least 3 other nearby Mexican restaurants with staff who speak multiple languages. Hopefully Viva Taco will follow suit.

One of the great things about tacos is that you can order as many as you like. Unfortunately Viva Taco does not participate in this part of taco culture. Would you like two tacos for a small meal or a large snack? Sorry, try elsewhere. Tacos here are served only on orders of 3.
