The Catfish!!! A+ dining, but you have to try the catfish! It’s seasoned with salt and pepper and cornmeal to a golden crispy perfection. Also, the peach cobbler is the best I’ve ever eaten. Was just traveling through, but wish I lived closer.

The Red River Steakhouse on Route 66 was really a pleasant surprise. The atmosphere is just great, sort of old-school western. It is also very large with a band that plays sometimes and private dining room. The steaks were cooked perfectly and very tender. We also liked the complementary peach cobbler, a very nice touch. Our sever was very friendly and very attentive. An overall good experience.

Stopped by on our way to Arizona and were glad we did. While we felt it was a little more expensive than it should have been, the food was great and the service even better. They make their own chicken fried steak (not a frozen patty), the tortilla soup was very flavorful with just a touch of spice, and when we were there they gave us complimentary peach cobbler.

Large restaurant so good for groups. It was quiet when we went but the service wasn’t great. Took awhile to get refills, dessert ordered and the check as seemed she had one larger table and had to make their salads maybe. The food was decent with the ribs being the best dish I tried while the catfish seemed a bit undercooked and soggy. The free cobbler is good though so save room for it.

The food was amazing. I had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and cowboy beans. The steak was wonderfully seasoned and fork tender. The beans were flavorful with a bit of spice, but not so much as to blow out your pallette which would have been a shame as the mashed potatoes were deliciously subtle in their flavor.
Our waitress was very nice and polite.
The atmosphere was old ranch/country and old classic country was playing on the speakers. From Pee Wee King to Merle Haggard to Sammy Kershaw.
This type of place is why you need to venture off the exit and explore local restaurants and not just eat at the national chains at the exit.

Excellent steaks! These folks know how to grill your steak! It’s a real hometown, home cooking feel. What can I say about steak. If the chef can cook it to the desired temp and season it to where it had flavor, what more could be done? A town of 600 people this place is a gem!!! I’ve eaten three several time never disappointed. I’ve had the ribeye, new york strip, and the filet… everytime we were satisfied with our steaks. They have always been cooked to our liking and seasoned perfectly. They have great homemade ranch dressing. If you are traveling down I-40, look up Mclean Texas: and if it’s Tuesday thru Saturday at lunch or dinner, you’ll be glad you stopped there. Nope, don’t work there; just really like their steaks. lol. Ya’ll have a super duper day! Peace ✌️

Early Bird Special before 6 pm M-F. Super friendly waitress, she was attentive and gave us some good history of the town of McLean. Fresh warm loaf of bread and the silverware was wrapped up cute in a red bandana to set the mood. Bathroom was very clean. Tried the Wednesday Special Chicken friend steak. It came quick, hot, huge and delicious. Homemade mashed taters with a big bowl of fresh steamed broccoli. The bonus cobbler was warm, must try the plum cobbler. The dining room is very spacious and there is an extra large seating area for large parties. It is marked as a restaurant to eat again. Thank you for the friendly Texas hospitality.

Stopped in for lunch. We had catfish and chicken fried steak, sides of green beans and mashed potatoes. Catfish was very good, sides were good, chicken fried steak was disappointing – more gristle than I usually see, and I have eaten a lot of these in a lot of different places. Waitress was efficient and friendly enough.
