Ok let’s do it. I know seafood panko cornmeal flour tempura beer batter. The menu says the fish is cooked in BEER BATTER. YEAH NO. It was some regular olf fish fry batter on the fish. The food wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great either. The service was phenomenal. If you want something quick and dont have high expectations go check them out. It gives cafeteria vibes nice quick meal.

Service was fast and attentive and the booth by the window was comfortable. I wish there was outdoor seating but the vaulted ceilings made the space feel open and modern. The food was fresh. The scallops were delicious as were the shrimp. The fried calamari, while good, could have been larger pieces and would have benefited from a lighter batter in my opinion. The batter used tasted, and felt, like a fried clam batter. The bill for two came to about $60 plus tip.

Been going here for some of the most consistent seafood since I was introduced back in 1960 with my Grandparents. Whenever my family and I are in town, we make it a point to come here. To this day, their prices are reasonable and the food has remained consistent, as I stated before. I always order the Fried “Admiral’s Feast” which consistent of Whole Clams (w/bellie) or Clam Strips (w/o bellie), Fried Flounder, Shrimp, and Scallops, a side of Cole Slaw and Baked stuffed potatoes or French Fries. The service is quick and efficient, enough that we tip 20% of whatever the bill comes to. The decore is open, light and sunny w/a slight view of the water across the street. Also across the street is a walking path that spans the length of most of the harbor shore line. Great for that walk, one might need, after the meal. In essence, it’s great food, and nostalgia.

Trying out a lobster roll for the first time, it was really good. The bun was crispy and the filling was creamy. I wished the bun could be bigger . We also ordered a lunch special baked stuffed sole, came with big portion of fries (crispy and well seasoned) and coleslaw (made fresh). I didn’t know what sole was but they were so delicious. The whole portion was perfect. Overall, it was the perfect summer lunch to start exploring West Haven beach.

Let me start by saying the food is very good, and I’m not a huge fan of fried food but…..I was visiting family and decided to indulge in

Onion Rings! WHEW! They were excellent, just the right amount of batter and delicious spicy horseradish sauce.

Whole-belly Clams – spot on, not greasy, crispy, good-sized portion. Side of cold tartar sauce (I got sick on tartar sauce that was not cold 10+ yrs ago, the first thing I do is test if it’s cold or if it’s been sitting under a heating lamp).

Calamari – same as the clams. they know how to fry. As you can see, the paper is not greasy. Side of cocktail sauce and fresh lemon.

Slaw – it’s okay. Nothing special. Cold. Crunchy. It helps balance out the fried food. 🙂

Service – Morgan was great. She was efficient, checked in but wasn’t overbearing and answered our questions and was doing a great job managing multiple parties of 2-6 people/table.

Cleanliness – very clean and fresh. AC was nice and chilly and welcomed on a hot and humid day.

Bathrooms – very clean, well stocked.

Parking – ample although we walked.

Very accessible for anyone in the family with mobility issues. There are tables and booths. Good place for a group with 1-3 generations!

Good meal.. and in a month with NO “r”, so you know what that means.. YES, SOFT SHELL CRAB SEASON! The first one this season…mmmmmm. whole bellies clams and baked scallops were good too!

October 2023

Yes people, it’s a month without an ” R” and you know what that means.. SOFT SHELL CRAB SEASON! Turks got em.. and they are huge, full of meat, juicy and ohhhh sooo delicious. Good meal. Come down and support a long time West Haven business!

12/18/22. Good service. Food was good as well. Whole bellies weren’t as big as I like, but everyone seems to be getting the “medium” bellies. Recommend supporting this old time westie establishment. Skip that other place, it’s a mess!

09/08/22. Return visit. Good meal. Good service.

5/1/22. Haven’t updated this in a while. Restaurant was updated and looks nice.. Clean. Food seems better than it was.. Still miss Neil and Eddy though.. Good people.

2020 OK.. better when Ed and Neil ran it. A bit dated. Food is good.. but have had better.

I was truly disappointed with this place. It has been renovated and has a very nice bright interior with blue and white decor. I can only comment on what we ordered so my comments are limited to my opinion. It took about 15-20 minutes for us to have anyone ask us for a drink order. I’m not sure if it was that they were understaffed or a shift change but it was too long. We ordered a margarita, stuffed mushrooms, onion rings, broiled scrod, and two fried butterflied shrimp platters. The sides included cole slaw, baked potatoes, French fries, and pickled beets. The onion rings came with the whole order and were lukewarm. The mushrooms were ok. The scrod was pre-frozen tasting (not 100% certain) and very over cooked. The shrimp (probably frozen) were heavily battered, over cooked, very dry and did not remotely resemble the look, taste, nor texture of actual shrimp. The margarita was forgettable.

Turks is usually a highlight of my trips up to West Haven. The restaurant still looks amazing with their facelift but the service is definitely something left to be desired and I must have gotten the week’s left over lobster in my roll. Smelt and tasted fishy, totally gross. Hotdog checked out pretty alright. Also, my cup never seemed to get anymore liquid in it after the initial serving, least of my concerns.

I know Turk’s can do better, they have, and it certainly isn’t Jimmie’s.

Update: They took off the nasty lobster roll and gave me some amazing shrimp. Waitress pointed out the lobster is off since they changed the supplier, I recommend they change back or drop it off the menu. Let’s hope I don’t get sick from that bite.

Lobster rolls were very small. Utensils were dirty as well as the salt shaker. . Gave it a few tries, but getting worse.

It was a small portion but good flavor. I’m use to going to city island for seafood and they serve you big plates. Even do it was a small portion it had lots of flavor. I would recommend this place. Nice environment
