We were excited about the full course meal but it was easy to see after the soup that it was not worth it. The main entre (lamb, steak etc was great) but the sides it comes with is so tasteless. I was so surprised at how soup can go so wrong. The sides were not tasty at all. The best side was the salad. I would just not order the family meal as they don’t give much even for 2 people or 4 people. It might be more in the taste for older people maybe due to low flavor and low sodium on everything.

The best family style, 7 course, comfort food feeling experience I’ve had!!! This place is awesome, most bang for your buck, and supremely delicious! The steaks are simply perfect, no sauces necessary, and the sides take you home!

Food was delicious with the exception of the garlic tomato soup. I feel like it needs more of a tomato base to it. It’s very garlic forward. Otherwise, everything was so, so yummy! Our server has worked there 16 years. And she was amazing. You can tell she can run circles around the others.

It’s hard to want to promote this restaurant.

On one end, I am basque, and love to enjoy the atmosphere and cooking.

But, it also feels incredibly overpriced. While you do get a variety of free sides, I feel the price of the meats is way over market.

Their special, a braised lamb shank, had little to no flavor.

It doesn’t help their menu hasn’t changed in over 20 years.

It’s not the worst restaurant, but it’s certainly one I wouldn’t want to spend $50+ at in Chico

We came in as party of 3 with a reservation. We were seated right away, and server took our drink order.

We all got basque style dinner with Sauteed Shrimp, Calamari, and Chicken Breast.

Course comes with excellent soup, salad, baked beans, green beans, garlic pasta, potatoes, and ice cream.

Was little salty but very rich, very good food. All the sides can be ordered more for free!

Sauteed Shrimp was fantastic. Great wine, garlic and butter flavor with succlent shrimps.

Chicken breast was way over seasoned and well done. Was dry. Pilaf rice on the bottom was good.

Calamari was what you would expect. Lightly battered, seasoned well. Pilaf on the bottom as well.

Our server was amazing, we asked lots of questions and she was more than happy to answer with a big smile. Attentive as well.

$100 for the 3 of us with great quality food and service.

Basque Norte isn’t just a restaurant for us—it’s a full-blown family tradition. This is the kind of place that becomes part of your life story without you even realizing it. I grew up coming here with my family, and now I get to carry on that same tradition with my own. Every time we walk through the doors, it feels like stepping into a warm hug.

The atmosphere is cozy, classic, and full of character. There’s something about the dim lighting, the rustic wood, and the friendly staff that instantly makes you feel at home. You can tell the people who work here care about what they do, because the service is always kind, attentive, and welcoming—never rushed, never cold. It’s the kind of hospitality you don’t find just anywhere.

And the food… absolutely incredible, every time. Their steaks are consistently cooked to perfection—tender, flavorful, and exactly what you hope for when you’re splurging on a true steakhouse meal. The sides, soups, and salads are just as delicious, and everything tastes like it’s made with intention and pride. Even the cocktails feel like they’re crafted, not poured.

What I love most, though, is how Basque Norte has this magical ability to bring people together. We’ve celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, homecomings, and ordinary Wednesday nights here. We’ve had loud tables full of laughter, and quiet dinners where we just enjoyed being together. No matter the occasion, the experience is always special.

If you’re looking for somewhere that feels like a memory waiting to happen, somewhere with amazing food and a genuine family atmosphere, Basque Norte is that place. It’s more than a restaurant—it’s a piece of Chico history, and a place our family will always cherish. We’ll keep coming back for as long as they’ll have us. ❤️ ✨

What are you all talking about? This place is terrible! The atmosphere is super weird. All their food is soft except for their meat which is tougher than the Salty Spitoon. Their “7 course meal” is just the sides that should be on the regular plate but served as their own course. Their ravioli is just Chef Boyardi. It’s all disgusting. You wanna go sit with a bunch of old people eating bland food and pay 200$ for it then be my guest.

My friends have asked me, “Why haven’t you reviewed Basque Norte?” I tell them the same thing… “Why continue to detail perfection?” It’s now time. After suffering through 2 bouts of COVID19, I NEEDED an outstanding meal to get my taste buds back on track. Date night and reservations for 2. My wife started off with a Sangria, and I ordered an Old Fashioned (best in town) then made our way to the menu to choose our entree. 1st course was the Tomato & Garlic Bisque, which was sheer perfection and full of tomato puree and garlic chunks. 2nd course was the salad, pasta, and beans… ALL perfectly prepared and full of flavor, especially the beans which included spicy sausage. The pasta had plenty of butter and seasoning to ensure nothing went home. 3rd course consisted of the seasoned green beans and potatoes. We did ask for a second round of the green beans, as they were THAT GOOD. Main Course was next. My wife ordered the Ribeye (rare), and I ordered the Lamb Chops (rare). To even speak ill of the preparation/seasonings/ and cooking would be blasphemy. Fresh garlic butter was piled on my chops, and Her steak was prepared better than just about ANY steakhouse in Chico can provide. This is THE place to take a date, your spouse, or a party just for the Tapas. Pricey… but SO worth it!! There’s not enough high praise to give this restaurant, the servers, bartenders, or owner. Just eat here once for the truth!! Did I forget the free small bowl of ice cream? Enjoy… and believe!!

We had a reservation for 5 and we were placed right next to the kitchen. Too loud. Only half of our meals (sides etc.) Came out to us. A disappointment for sure. Amazing food of what we did get.

Haven’t been to Basque Norte for years. My parents came to town and suggested it and we said absolutely. Had a wonderful meal. For those who may not know, your meal is served family style and you select your entrée. I had the beer battered shrimp which were huge and delicious. I didn’t need to eat them all but I couldn’t stop. Dad got the steak, mom got the veal and the hubs got the fish.
Our waitress was wonderful and the owner stopped at our table to check on things.
Neither the hubs or I brought our readers but we were both shocked to see there was nothing under $50 for an entrée. Or at least from what we could tell.
