Today marks my fourth visit to Mei Japanese Restaurant for a gourmet sashimi lunch with friends — and it never disappoints. This hidden gem in Cincinnati offers a rotating selection of ultra-fresh sashimi, based on the catch of the day. The ramen and curry dishes are equally satisfying, with bold flavors and hearty portions. Add in the friendly service and cozy atmosphere, and you’ve got a go-to spot for authentic Japanese cuisine. Highly recommend!

We had a party of 9 and sat in one of the more private rooms. The room was adorable. Absolutely loved it. I was worried about sitting on the floor but there is space under the table for your legs to hang as if you’re sitting in a chair. You take your shoes off but they do have slippers. I love the authentic feel and look of the place. The good was delicious and I’m a very picky eater. Leave room for dessert, you won’t regret it. it’s all a ton of food so if you’re up for sharing, that’ll be your best bet. We definitely plan to come again.

My family has been coming here for over 10 years, and Mei has consistently provided excellent food and service.
The hungry roll is delicious, and the chirashi is excellent as well.
We also enjoy trying the different fish specials.
Every server is so friendly and helpful as well!

Very authentic Japanese food. We enjoyed the citron honey tea. Not very many vegetarian options but I enjoyed what I had, including a very creamy ramen. The tempura looked incredible and there was also a variety of sushi.

Far and away THE most delicious and authentic Japanese food I’ve had outside of Japan. Have never found another restaurant like it. I’m a regular for Agedashi Tofu and the Bento Dinner, but the tempura is sublime and I’ve never had something less than incredible here. Seriously, you gotta go.

Had a great time this weekend at this restaurant. Staff is amazing and very accommodating. If you’re looking for authentic Japanese cuisine, this is the place to go! I had the Katsu Curry Udon with an extra egg, and it was delicious and very filling! I typically have a big appetite, and this was big enough to ensure I was full.
I would recommend to friends and family.

Last week I dined at Kyubey in Ginza. This week I began to crave sashimi and visited Mei. The experience was as good or better, it is a warm friendly experience, incredibly attentive service, and the sashimi and sushi were very high quality. My kids and I really enjoyed the tempura fried ice cream!

Mei is my favorite Japanese restaurant in the Cincinnati region. The staff is *actually* Japanese and the food is both reasonably priced and authentically delicious. And the atmosphere is wonderful—you can squint your eyes and for just a moment feel you’re actually in Japan. That’s not the case of most “Japanese” restaurants in this area. Let’s support Mei!

Environment is good. Waited 30mins to get a table on Friday night. Suggest reservation before going.
Food is okay. Miso soup, yakitori and unaju flavor too strong. Urchin doesn’t taste fresh? My bf ordered tonkatsu and it tasted very good.

While it may not look like much from the outside, the interior is nicely decorated and rather spacious. They have the traditional raised floor seating where you remove shoes as well.
The tonkotsu ramen had a rich and full bodied broth. Their homemade ramen noodles are fantastic. Gyosas were nice and meaty and well spiced. Very good and fresh, very friendly server who recommended a good sake as well. Definitely worth a visit if you like Japanese food or are interested in trying something new.
