Bird Dog in Mattawan is a fantastic spot with a menu that changes seasonally, and everything I’ve tried has been consistently delicious. Their Sunday + Saturday brunch is a real treat. You absolutely have to try the firecracker cauliflower, which tastes like flavorful wings (even if you’re not usually a veggie fan… like me). The space is cozy and comfortable, with indoor seating and outdoor options during the summer. Service is always fast, and the staff is friendly and welcoming. A wonderful place to enjoy a meal any time of year.

Thanks to Google we found this place on our way home. Amazing craft cocktails and out of world food. From Oysters to dessert!! Thank you so much for a great meal and bar conversations!

Great place we visited for dinner. We had the Crab Cakes, Delmonico Ribeye, Mac &Cheese and Thai Style Broccolini. Absolutely delicious. Great service. They do not take reservations but we went around 3:30 and was perfect timing. They have limited indoor seating and some outdoor seating as well. Expensive but sooo good.

My partner and I have dined at Bird Dog many times over the years, but the quality has noticeably declined as of our last visit. The food, from appetizers to entrées, arrived messy and poorly presented. My entrée even came out about five minutes before my partner’s, which made the meal feel disjointed. The drinks were also weak and slow to arrive, despite the restaurant not being particularly busy.
For the prices they charge, you’d expect much more attention to preparation, presentation, and timing. It’s especially disappointing because we have such fond memories of past meals here. Unfortunately, the experience no longer feels worth the cost.

Funny name but seriously delicious! I don’t know how to label this place either, but you have to try it as it doesn’t seem to fit any box. All of the food we tried was awesome and inventive. The service was excellent as well. Worth a drive from the lake or Kalamazoo.

We stopped in for an early Wednesday anniversary dinner, as we have tried previous weekends with no luck, as they don’t take reservations. However, once you’re inside, you understand why they don’t, as it’s small with about ten tables (they do have outdoor patio seating). We ordered the hyped up Firecracker Cauliflower for an appetizer. It was worth the hype, so good! For entrees, we ordered the Reverence Steelhead (pan fried to perfection) and the Lobster Bucatini, which was delicious and really fresh with a hearty homemade pasta.
We had to get dessert, so we ordered the carrot cake, which was really good! Overall, it was a great experience, with fresh ingredients and outstanding service!! We look forward to coming back!

We made a reservation at Bird Dog and got to dine in the Candyland igloo—yes, it’s just as fun and magical as it sounds! Cozy vibes, whimsical colors, and the perfect little escape for a delicious meal.
We both ordered the Little Jerry Goes to Nashville 2.0 sandwich and… wow. Crispy, juicy, spicy, and just ridiculously good. Now here’s the thing—I’m not even a fry person—but these? These fries were next level. Perfectly golden, crispy, and seasoned just right!
I look forward to returning soon!
