We went in there with high hopes after salivating over his posts. It’s real folks. The brisket is pure melt in your mouth. The burgers loaded and the fries crispy. Match made in heaven.
The brisket burger was nothing short of a piece of art. It was loaded, juicy, full of smoke flavours and delicious sauces. The brisket literally melted in my mouth. No chewing required.
Best brisket burger to date. And I’ve had heaps. 10/10.
Mi Goreng burger was equally as impressive. Thick, juicy fried chicken topped with delicious noodles and a runny egg. This slapped, hard. 10/10.
Last but not least was the snack pack. Curly fries were nice and crispy, didn’t go soggy despite being covered with brisket and sauces. The melt in your mouth brisket was packed on top. Al didn’t skimp here. 10/10.
This was cheat day of all cheat days. Worth the calories. Simply amazing, couldn’t fault a thing, other than the average seating area and lack of tv, and bathrooms. Who cares. We went for the food which was 10/10.
Thanks Al.
This sensory journey continued with each dish. The brisket roll, presented on a pillowy soft milk bun, was a study in contrasts and textures. The bun yielded with the slightest pressure, giving way to the incredibly tender, almost ethereal brisket within. Each bite was an explosion of rich, smoky flavor, so profound and satisfying that it genuinely redefined my perception of beef. The thought of a traditional beef patty burger now seems almost… pedestrian. This is how a burger should be crafted.
The beef brisket tacos were another revelation, a testament to the versatility of perfectly smoked meat. The tortillas, kissed by the flames, possessed a delightful crispness, that satisfying crunch that elevates any taco experience. Nestled within was the same succulent brisket, its tenderness a beautiful counterpoint to the slight resistance of the tortilla. The vibrant salsa added a fresh, zesty note, while the strategically placed jalapenos delivered a welcome burst of heat, creating a harmonious and utterly addictive dish. This wasn’t just a side; it was a potential main event, a dish I could happily devour on a regular basis.
Even the humble curly fries were elevated beyond expectation. Forget those limp, mass-produced versions. These were perfectly golden and audibly crispy on the outside, giving way to a light and fluffy interior. And the crowning glory? Real, discernible pieces of chilli mingled with the cheesy goodness, providing an authentic warmth and depth of flavor that the typical liquid chilli sauce simply can’t replicate. It was exactly how cheesy chilli fries should be – a comforting and satisfying indulgence.
Overall, my experience at Smokin’ Al BBQ was nothing short of exceptional. It’s more than just a takeaway; it’s a destination for anyone who appreciates the art of slow-smoked barbecue. I wholeheartedly recommend it to friends, and with their enticing promise of different portion dishes each month, a regular pilgrimage to Smokin’ Al BBQ in Rockdale is now firmly on the cards. The anticipation of discovering their future culinary creations is already building!
Despite there being only 2 or 3 orders before ours, we had to wait a long time. I ended up eating in my car, and I was shocked by the portion size and taste of the snack pack. Having tried almost every snack pack in Sydney, I’d say this was the most average. The meat was exceptionally cold, and for a price of $33, I feel like I would’ve been better off giving the money to a junkie for some peace of mind.
This was the most terrible food experience I’ve had in Sydney. I’ll never trust any YouTube channel again. The atmosphere was terrible and dirty. You’re charging five-star hotel prices but delivering one-star food and service. I’ll never go there again.
Ordered their signature beef burger with fries $25
– takeaway & consumed under 10 mins. Taste was good but too soft & didn’t hold structure wise
– burger was too small for the restaurant price tag. Portions could be improved
– fries were good
