When childhood friends Holly and Shawn stepped away from their big city careers and started Rook Coffee in 2010, they wanted to make their customers feel special. From its humble beginning in a 300-square-foot shack, the company has offered the highest quality coffees paired with over-the-top customer service. Was in New Jersey for 10 days and this was by far the friendliest staff we encountered. She was very helpful and informative. My daughter loved the iced coffee and I got a mocha. If you want good coffee with a lot of flavor and not all the frufu stuff come here. Would recommend.

After attending my mandatory CA Meeting (Coffeeholics Anonymous) in Belmar I decided there is no time like the present to take control of my life. I will no longer be shackled by the beliefs of those who feel it is not OK to use espresso shots as a chaser to down a handful of crunchy single origin coffee beans. Therefore I used my twitchy google fingers to find the nearest brown watering hole and stumbled upon Rook. After opening the door I entered this quaint fast paced cafe and realized I was in heavens lobby. Options Options Options is the name of the game here with coffee taps protruding from the back wall like Pinocchio’s noses.
The atmosphere is tight bright and airy like I prefer in a mate. I had the coffee options explained to me and was impressed with the concise but appealing descriptions given by the barista. I chose the Bali and another of the Sumatra brew for backup (no cream no sugar) and what a tantalizing SINsation this was. The coffee did not blow my face off…but it was very good overall. Certainly no comparison and leagues above the places that rhyme with “Starsucks” and “Pumpkin Go Nuts”. I also may or may not have owned a few cafes in my past and have a greater appreciation for “the bean” than the regular Joe.
It was a quick visit and it didn’t strike me as a place to hang (not sure there was seating or any food items beyond small snacks) but just order ahead and walk in to find your quick fix waiting. You’ll be equally as happy walking in and placing your order on site based on the descriptions of what’s drippin’. Don’t miss the nice little merch and whole bean coffee display area around the bend. I’d revisit again after my next meeting and so should you. I was in the area so stopped by this coffee shop! The inside was really clean and nice. The employees were so sweet! I ordered the Turkish coffee – it was excellent. Also picked up a little latte plush for my pup which he loved!

My friend and I decided to try out Rook on our day trip to Belmar Beach and it was absolutely amazing! I got the cinnamon vanilla style with almond milk and agave while she got the same cold brew but with oat milk and honey. Both were delicious and the flavor notes of the cold brew weren’t too overwhelming, but you could tell it was present. The cold brew itself is very good quality and is way better than Starbucks or Dunkin. The interior of the store is adorable and they even sell merchandise. I highly recommend if you’re in the area!

Hands down THE best coffee around. I stop in every single day on my way to work. The staff is incredibly friendly and very knowledgeable. The coffee speaks for itself. You won’t find any Starbucks Frappuccino here, just an incredible quality cup of coffee.

I have been to three Rook locations now. The coffee is great. It always tastes the same as the last time you ordered it, no matter the location, but this was the most chaotic location by far. Like forty customers in there. This woman that worked there was screaming out orders so loud when it was a customers’ turn to pick up their coffee. I know there’s a lot of people to project your voice over, but damn. That was shrill. Maybe they should get a microphone or take a number like a deli or something. I know she’s probably just doing her job and what she was told but, this lady’s gonna pop a blood vessel screeching like that. It should be chill vibes in there, not like the TSA or something.
