Relaxed Mexican restaurant with a menu of traditional fare including chiles rellenos & enchiladas.

I never thought Hawaii would have legit Mexican food. Everything was legit and flavorful. Staff were super helpful explaining the menu to our party. Sitting is a bit tight if you have a big party but everything was great and it’s away from the tourist areas so only locals. Definitely coming back.

CONS: no charro beans! For being called El Charro I wish they had charro beans! Also I wish the chicken had more flavor, it was kind of bland. NO chips & salsa! Unless you order it and pay extra
PROS: food was delicious & wasn’t great! Margaritas were strong. Service was good. They stuffed my enchiladas verdes and my husband’s chicken quesadillas will a lot of meat! The refried beans were really good.

I’ve visited this restaurant multiple times and the only thing they are consistent about is taking extremely long to make the order. Every time I have had to stand outside and wait at least 15 minutes past the already estimated 40 minutes. This time it was for 3 tacos, rice, and one California burrito. Zero time management skills. Maybe they should put seats outside for everyone who is waiting for their mediocre food.
Updating my review to change to 1 star. After waiting an hour for my food, (and asking them to double check that the extra sour cream was in the bag, which it wasn’t) I get home only to find out I have the complete wrong order. I ordered a “steak” taco plate with cilantro and onions (and obviously on corn tortillas)… the picture is what I received.

I have been here multiple times and the food is always great! Excellent chimichangas, enchiladas, tacos, and burritos. Family environment and very welcoming staff. No draft beer but plenty of bottled options, domestic and Mexican.

Really enjoyed the food and the service staff was pleasant and helpful. Food was flavorful but not heavy seasoned or greasy so this may not be the place for you if you are used to commercialized mexican food. I found the food comforting and the carne asada burrito I ordered was large and filling. Make sure to eat with pico de gallo the serve and ask for more if you run out (and you will). The enchiladas were tasty and the sides of beans and seasoned rice were food too. there were about 10-12 tables that seat 2 or 4 people each so it is not a large location but we made ot before the lunch rush. Conveniently located next to Aiea Bowl. Will bring back soon to try the rest of the menu.

This is our second time here and finding this place was actually a bit tricky. The directions on Google were a bit off so if you don’t know the area, keep a good eye out for this venue. We really enjoyed our food like last time. We got different dishes and the food was still good and the portions are huge. We were one of the first ones here in the morning so everything was made fresh. I really enjoy their ambiance. The beautiful chairs and the spacious tables are good for our family of five.
I would most definitely recommend this place.

Great Local Mexican Spot!
Our family of five really enjoyed dining here! The restaurant is on the smaller side, but we’ve never had to wait long for a table, which is a big plus. The food is always fresh, flavorful and authentic – you can tell everything is made with care. The service can be on the slower side, but the staff are friendly and work hard to make sure everyone is taken care of. It’s the perfect place to relax, enjoy good company, and take your time over a great meal. Highly recommend if you’re craving delicious Mexican good in a cozy setting!

Pretty good food that was well priced. The margaritas were expensive and were overly sweet with a somewhat lack of tequila. Overall great food but skip the drinks. We will back again.

First off, the direction Google gives you are wrong. So it is tricky to find. It’s a small business and decorated cute. This food is what I would consider tex mex so not authentic. Be careful with the menu, some of the items read differently then what you actually get, so ask the server before you order. The menu it’s self doesn’t have any prices. You have to scan the qr code to get the prices. My husband ended up speaking in Spanish to our waitress to ask about what we were ordering. The way our items, that we ordered read in English on the menu, is NOT what she was explaining to my husband in Spanish. Waitress was polite and respectful. The food was not good for any of us except our 7 year old. I personally would not come back here or recommend it here to eat, but that’s just my opinion.

The food is pretty good, the waitstaff is decent, and the atmosphere is pleasant. We’re pretty picky about Mexican food since we’re used to California-style cuisine, but I have to say El Charro comes pretty close. I had the Carnitas plate—the meat was a bit on the salty side, and I wish it had been charred a little more and served with a lime slice. Overall, a solid option for flavorful Mexican fare.
