We dined at Calliope on a Wednesday evening. We arrived well before our reservation time, since my husband was done with his errands earlier than expected. We were seated immediately. Our waiter, Lee, was amazing. He was incredibly attentive and made sound suggestions without being pushy. We ordered the Sofra with the lamb shank. To say everything was delicious is an understatement; the food was exquisite. We even got to try the Gulf Shrimp, which were also delectable (spicy, but we love spicy food). My husband and I each had a drink (Tree of Joy and Crimson Bloom), both were outstanding. Dessert was included with the Sofra meal, which was the Knafeh. Also amazing; sweet, salty with pistachios and golden raisins. When we return to Chattanooga, we will definitely go back to Calliope. If I had to complain about one thing, it would be the size of our table (it was quite small), but other than that, 10/10!

Left here totally blissed out. We took a weekend roadtrip from Knoxville to experience Calliope after they were voted into the Top 50 Restaurants in USA by the New York Times, and it was worth the whole trip. We enjoyed flavor profiles we’ve never experienced before and will be daydreaming about until our return. The jammy figs in the whipped feta dish knocked us off our feet, and our waitress said the figs were grown by her friend up the road, which I loved to hear. The blackened grouper was seasoned with spices that tasted like Christmas, and somehow worked perfectly for a savory dish. We tried a Lebanese wine, which we’ve never had before, and it paired perfectly with everything. Every dish we had (7 in total including dessert) was just perfection. Loved the building as well, and the scruffy side of town it’s in. Thanks for one of the best meals of our lives y’all. Feeling very grateful.

Our Saturday date night dinner at Calliope was a great experience. The spacious, cozy, two-level setting felt elegant but not stuffy. We were seated promptly for our reservation, and our server “Grace”, was attentive, professional, and expertly helped us navigate the extensive menu, including the specials and signature dishes. We chose the “Sofra for two”, which allowed the chef to select our entire three-course meal, complete with liquor pairings. The meal began with a delightful assorted appetizer of olives, naan, fresh fruit, hummus, mixed root vegetables, and cheeses. The main course was a succulent American Red Snapper, expertly prepared and seasoned. We loved the experience and will return again.

I can’t say enough great things about our meal at Calliope! Everything from our first bite of falafel to our final bite of knafeh was truly exceptional. Our wines paired beautifully with the meal, we enjoyed short rib, chicken shawarma, hummus, halloumi & apples, and fresh pita. Our server, Emily, was attentive and kind. She knew everything about the menu, and was able to answer all of our questions. We appreciated her passion and love for her work place! Thank you for our favorite date night of our trip.

This experience was fantastic, since I saw the restaurant on the Chattanooga news. I was very inspired by the food pictures and the chef. It was out 27th wedding Anniversary. My wife loves Eastern food I was happy to reserve this table to enjoy our dinner. From the time you walk in everyone has a smile and very nice and polite. Lindsey our waitress was fantastic she was on top of everything and knew the menu and was so attentive to our needs. She has a passion to take care of her customers. The food was fantastic great and top notch. My wife had the chicken we shared the carrots, blackened grouper, the pitas were fantastic. Thank you for the experience and the tiramisu was top notch delicious. Thanks Jim H.

The restaurant certainly lives up to its reputation in most respects — beautifully presented dishes, attentive service, and a menu that reflects true Michelin-level care.

However, I was disappointed in the Turkish coffee. It was described as “special” for its cardamom flavor, of which I experienced when I ordered in previous meals, yet the cup I received had none of the distinct aroma or taste that cardamom brings. A small detail, but one that matters when the restaurant highlights it as a signature element. Otherwise, a lovely dining experience overall.

Good restaurant with some pretty stellar dishes (and with some that were just okay). Really enjoyed the beets and goat cheese. Our favorite was the black cod… That cuttlefish tahini is mind-blowing! Make sure you get whatever dish you can with the cuttlefish tahini! However, I personally felt like the rest whipped feta and Alabama crab were pretty average dishes. I wouldn’t order those again. Regardless, give this place a try!

You don’t go here for the food. You go here for the “experience.” Our experience would have been better had we not been seated at a teenie tiny little children’s table. The food is served family style, so the tiny table was uncomfortable and limited our selections. They brought out 2 selections at a time. Our table hardly held that. It was a Thursday night and there were plenty of other tables available, but the hostess said we’d specifically reserved a table for 2, so it’s what we got. She said she’d check to see if there were other tables available, but she never got back to us. Clearly, there were other tables … I had to put my drink on the plant stand next to our table … It was ridiculous. If you are a party of 2 and are going here for a special occasion, go somewhere else! … or reserve a table for 4.

Our waitor was ok. He tried really hard to push the pricey drinks on us and then asked if we wanted pickles with our dinner. We assumed the pickles were complementary and found out otherwise when we got the bill. It’s on us for not asking, but it was sneaky how he offered what was simply stated as “pickles” that turned out to be a small plate of various pickled vegetables.

The fresh pita, hummus and toum were absolutely delicious, the highlights for sure! The chicken shwarma left much to be desired with about a half ounce of chicken included. The shrimp dish still had the tails on. Plates were large, but portions were tiny. The more expensive the menu item, the smaller the portion, though the desserts were quite large and very delicuos, another highlight for sure!

This was our choice for our anniversary dinner. We’d fasted all day in preparation! It worked out that our table was small and we didn’t get to test everything we wanted to because what we did try was “meh” at best outside of the previously mentioned highlights.

Best dining experience in Chattanooga so far! We visited after seeing Calliope featured in the NYTimes top 50 restaurants list for 2025. Not having tried Levantine cuisine before, we walked in not knowing what to expect and ended up being thoroughly impressed by everything.

We started with the Whipped Feta (Pita Bread included) along with a happy hour cocktail for the Missus. Then we moved on to the Gulf Shrimp and Falafel—very delicious, with a happy hour discount (up to 6pm) for both. We then split the Niman Ranch Beef with a side of Burnt Carrots as the main course. As other reviewers have noted, the burnt carrots are amazing—you must try them. We finished the meal with the Knafeh and Tiramisu and paired the desserts with a cup of Sulaimani Tea. (The desserts are must-try’s!)

We appreciated our server, Krystal, walking us through the menu at the beginning and being attentive to our needs throughout the dining experience. She elevated what was already a 5-star dining experience based on the food alone to a very pleasant, memorable Saturday evening for us.

We will be back—with family and friends in tow!

5 stars all around! My husband & I had a reservation for his birthday and we were so full by the end of dinner! We had the hummus, alabama crab, plums & heirloom tomatoes, sweet potato soup (not pictured), short rib, and batata harra. Our favorite dish was the sweet potato soup, we’ve never had anything like that before! Compliments to chef & staff!
