Nothing special
The first thing I noticed was the smell of old fryer grease. Then I was aware that there were only 3 meat choices- all fried. But they were out of fried catfish at 12 noon on a Friday, for some reason.
I got fried chicken that was dry and lukewarm.
We left and smelled like old grease. Nope! Too many good restaurants in Birmingham to give money to this mediocre place.

Let me start off saying I typically am not a fan of Cafeteria/Meat &3’s style places. HOWEVER Joel’s has me reevaluating my opinion on this style of eatery.
I got the Country Fried Steak and let me tell you, that it is THE BEST country fried steak I have ever had, sorry Mom. The sweet potato casserole was amazing and the rest of the fixins you could tell also carried the same amount of love and care put into them as the main dishes. If you are looking for home comfort food then you need to look no further than Joel’s!

Service was FRIENDLY and Very helpful. Food was AWESOME. We had country fried steak with gravy fried okra butter beans Mexican cornbread and coconut pie. YUM YUM. WOULD RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO EVERYONE.

Food was just bad. The rice was overcooked and almost slimy in texture. Main course was Sausage and Vegetables. There was exactly ONE piece of sausage in what was poured over the rice. I would have given only one star, except the server did keep my tea glass filled.

Heather the host was extremely rude. It was our first time going. No one was at the door when we came in so we got in line because how are we supposed to know what to do? The sign only said Host will seat, not wait here first. So after we get our food there are no tables. The other host point us to a table that opened. We have to stand there and ask for a rag while Heather stands there just looking and does nothing, goes to the back talks to a cook, and comes back no rag. We are still stand there holding our plates, untill we find a bus boy who wipped the table off for us. The food wasn’t even that great or my appetite was ruined after that.

Worst service ever. Food was dry. The host was awful. Had to hold our food until the host who wiped off everybody’s table but ours to come and clean our table. Food taste like it was straight out the box. Horrible. Never will go back.
