As for the food, it did not disappoint. My oldest son had the Smash Porch Burger, which he said was juicy and full of flavor. My youngest son loved the Slider Burgers, and they were the perfect size for him. Our daughter went for the mozzarella sticks, and they were hot, crispy, and delicious. My wife had the grilled cheese, which was perfectly golden and cheesy. I opted for the vegan burger, and I was impressed with how tasty it was!
The service was also top-notch, with quick and friendly staff making sure we had everything we needed. Overall, The Porch is a great spot for families or anyone looking for a fun and delicious dining experience. We give it 5 stars and can’t wait to return!
Now, on to the service — which I’d rate a D. Let me preface my review by saying that I managed a bar in South Milwaukee decades ago, where we always strived to provide great service. So, service is my pet peeve. This is especially true when I’m sitting at the bar, as I was tonight, only to experience the opposite. In fact, there were people on both sides of me who stated they felt the same.
The bartenders didn’t acknowledge guests with a simple “hello, I’ll be right with you.” It took forever just to get a drink menu and beer. Once I finally had that, there was another long wait before anyone took my food order. I also had to flag someone down to get another drink. Meanwhile, I saw multiple bartenders just hanging out — sometimes with their backs turned to the horseshoe of customers. Why are they not paying attention to the very people who determine their paychecks — the customers and their tips?
A good bartender always keeps a sharp eye on everyone at the bar. They should be able to carry on conversations while still promptly acknowledging and serving guests.
It amazes me that some bartenders haven’t figured out that their income directly correlates with the quality of service they provide. It’s also worth considering why people sit at the bar in the first place — the two main reasons are faster service and the opportunity to socialize with others outside their party.
I encourage management to stand off to the side and simply observe. You’d think this would go without saying, especially since I assume manager pay or bonuses are tied to nightly sales. Slow service means lower sales.
The atmosphere is fun and energetic, perfect for a casual hangout or a night out with friends. The staff is friendly and attentive.
