Experience: I would love to give this store a 5 star, but ran into some complications with the ordering. Note: The restaurant is very fast-paced, and the employees clearly try their best to serve the large crowd of customers efficiently. My girlfriend and I are not fluent in Vietnamese, so it was a little difficult for us to pronounce the names of the desserts. We tried our best and even pointed to the items on the menu to help.
The employee repeated our order back to us, and it sounded correct at the time, so we went to the counter to pay. However, we noticed that two of the items (Bánh Cam and Chè Đậu Hũ) were incorrect. We notified the cashier, and they said the employee who took our order would prepare it again. Even though we only wanted to replace the wrong items, it seemed like the employee was redoing the entire order.
Since there had been some miscommunication the first time, we took a picture of the item names and showed it to the employee. She corrected one of the items (Bánh Cam) but got the other one wrong again, and we received Chè Thưng instead. While she was roughly putting our food into a container, she told us in an annoyed tone that the item was correct. Honestly, since we are unfamiliar with the cuisine, we thought maybe we were mistaken.
We paid for our order and left the store, but just to be sure, we checked the items against the online menu. We realized that the Chè Đậu Hũ we received did not match the ingredients listed. We went back to ask the cashier, and he confirmed that it was not the correct item. However, due to the store’s policy of not accepting returns once food leaves the store (since COVID), we had to order the Chè Đậu Hũ again.
The cashier was polite and explained what the correct item looked like. He also told us to point at the item next time to avoid confusion. While I know he meant well, it left a sour taste in our mouths because we had already pointed at the items and even showed pictures during the second order, yet we still received the wrong one.
I understand the store was busy, but the employee could have treated us with a bit more patience and without the attitude.
The tofu is my favorite to keep up with my protein intake it’s well seasoned and fresh no matter what time you come in.
I also like the various desserts, it’s not overly sweet and has all the tasty ingredients. The fresh soy milk is a good buy too! I really like the Pandan soy milk, put some Goguma in it and you got a nice little breakfast. Highly recommend trying everything!
As if that wasn’t enough, if you spend around $25–$50, they throw in a free soy milk, which is such a nice bonus and tastes incredibly fresh. Everything here is flavorful, comforting, and worth going out of your way for. Highly recommend—this place alone is a reason to look forward to Maryland trips!
Their Mushroom Tofu and Plain Tofu are must-buys; they taste fantastic. I usually buy extra and freeze them, and they still taste great after thawing. The tofu can also be sliced and stir-fried with vegetables. I bought four boxes of tofu, and the staff gave me a whole bucket of free soy milk, which I really appreciated.
This time, I also tried the Khoa Mi Dua (cassava and coconut milk dessert), Xôi (large sago with shredded coconut and crushed peanuts), and Xôi Mǎn (sticky rice with meat).
The cassava was soft and delicious, and the coconut milk was rich and fragrant. The sago was nicely chewy and had a great texture, with a balanced sweet and savory flavor from the shredded coconut and crushed peanuts. The sticky rice with Chinese sausage tasted great. It’s best to steam it to reheat if you’re eating it the next day, otherwise, the sticky rice will harden.
The Chè Dau was perfect sweet and fresh coconut rice with black eyed peas, (I know it sounds strange!) they give you a side of coconut crème to pour over.
The Chè Thái is fun a popular Vietnamese treat.
I also got the fried mushroom tofu and the fried lemongrass tofu mix 1/2 pound. I wish I had gotten more it was delicious. The added flavor was not overwhelming and gave the tofu what it needs.
The other customers were kinda rude and pushy, nice that the employees knew to ask who was next. The employee took great care of me and made sure to ask if I wanted anything else. A great first visit here, I will for sure return!
