Quaint little Italian place. Food was pretty decent. Wine was excellent. Service was great. Stop by if you’re in the area but sit inside. Mosquitoes are bad in DC for some reason.

I’ve lived in the DC area for over 32 years now and Italian Kitchen has always been a favorite of mine and my partner whenever we get to Dupont Circle. This past visit was a bit disappointing though. They’ve changed the menu and it seems drastically reduced.
We always would order a half carafe of chianti but it wasn’t on the menu. We asked the server about it and he did bring one out, though at $23 it seemed rather pricey.
A favorite of ours was always the calamari linguini, but it is no longer on the menu. There’s a seafood pasta with shrimp, calamari and mussels, but that sounded kind of busy. I ordered my second favorite, the linguini carbonara and it was unfortunately a little dry. My partner ordered the Pasta Bolognese and they brought Chicken Milanese by mistake. The server apologized and my partner kept it to avoid having to wait for another entree to be prepared.
I hope the next time we visit, if we do, that we can enjoy an experience like we have during past visits.

Delicious food, great atmosphere. I got the salmon and sauvignon blanc and loved it. Excellent service. All 5 of us loved our meals and experience. We will definitely be coming back soon!

If you want mediocre food that costs an arm and a leg, welcome in. Portions are rationed like were in 2008 post-market crash. Food reminds me of bland British cuisine disguised in bottled marinara. May as well dip the garlic bread in ketchup for some semblance of flavor. Atmosphere is great though!

Based on good reviews we made a reservation during our stay in Washington DC. We ordered bruschetta en fried mozzarella as appetizer! Both appetizers were excellent. As main plate we ordered a spaghetti carbonara, a pasta seafood and a pasta calamares. The three plates were excellent. A few downsizes: no table clothes and a waiter who was not so polite and distant.

There’s a kind of sacred honesty in simplicity. A refusal to bend to trends, to over-garnish, to gild the lily with foam or flamboyance. DuPont Italian Kitchen, tucked into the pulsing rhythm of Washington DC’s 17th Street corridor, doesn’t shout. It murmurs with the confidence of a place that knows exactly what it’s doing, and does it damn well.

**The Cacio e Pepe**
Some dishes transport you. This one arrests you mid-thought and sits you down in a tiny Roman trattoria with chipped walls and wine-stained tables. The pasta is creamy, yes, but not heavy. The pepper sings, not screams. There’s restraint, wisdom, and a kind of culinary modesty that only comes from respect for the form. It’s a plate that doesn’t beg you to return, it dares you not to.

**Arugula Salad with Goat Cheese**
This isn’t just a salad. It’s contrast, conversation, balance. Bitter arugula playing jazz with the creamy tang of goat cheese. Each forkful feels like a purposeful collision, fresh, smart, and a perfect counterpoint to the Cacio e Pepe’s velvet weight. Add a chilled glass of Pinot Grigio, and you could almost forgive the world’s sins. Almost.

**The Vibe**
Think rustic warmth meeting urban candor. The staff’s got that practiced ease, welcoming without fawning, attentive without hovering. It’s the kind of place locals defend with a territorial pride and travelers stumble into, only to wonder why it’s not on every “Top 10 Hidden Gems” list.

**Final Thought**
DuPont Italian Kitchen doesn’t need to impress, it just needs to be. And in a city full of pretense and polished plating, it offers something harder to find: authenticity, wrapped in pasta and seasoned with soul.

Loved the location. It was nice outside so we sat out there and it was great. The service was good. At first the server looked irritated but after we started chatting him up, he came around and was very nice. The food was mixed feelings. Half of us enjoyed and half didn’t. One of the pizzas was very bland and missing flavor. The chicken cesar salad was spicy and had a weird taste to it. The chicken francaise and cheese pizza were good.

Never a disappointing experience at Dupont Italian Kitchen. Warm and welcoming … from top management Michael and Tony to the wait and kitchen staff! Just came back from a late lunch – calamari, pork picatta, and a wonderful sun dried tomatoes, spinach, capers, garlic, & olive oil pasta. Wish we had had room for dessert!

A gem of a hole in the wall Italian place. Authentic and great service. I ordered the chicken parmigiana and caesar salad. The garlic bread, mozzarella sticks, and brussel sprouts were excellent. The brussel sprouts were a personal favorite though. Crispy and charred on the outside while still a soft center with a hint of bacon and flavorful. Such a great experience!
