We went to check out the new steakhouse in town and One Prime quickly impressed us with a sweet card and rose petals on our table to celebrate our 25th anniversary. The amuse bouche was decadent and bursting with flavor. We enjoyed very fresh oysters and loved the little dropper for the mignonette. The beet salad I can’t wait to come and enjoy again in the summer time while sitting on their patio. We both ordered the Specialty Dry aged New York strip and I got the blue cheese and bourbon cream sauce. Highly recommend! Our very well versed server William warned to order more cooked than you normally would. I’m a med rare and stuck with that. I thought it was cooked perfectly. William surprised us with one more anniversary surprise for dessert. 2 chocolate truffles with homemade vanilla bean whipped cream! Michael the dining room manager came through to top off the evening and enjoyed chatting with him as well. We will be back and have already recommend to friends.

Amazing, upscale, cosmopolitan steakhouse. The service was exceptional and professional. The only thing that surpassed all that was the food! The steaks were amazing! The waitress was right: if you prefer your steak medium, order it med-well. Regardless, the steak on our plates was SO flavorful and tender (you could literally them with a fork.) The lobster was broiled to perfection. So soft, sweet, and tender. Before your courses, your palate is energized with amazing popovers and cheese croquettes. I wish I had room for dessert. Oh well, I guess I’ll just have to go back again for more. ….Hee hee hee

We just moved in to the apartments upstairs and came to One Prime to celebrate. The BEST steak we have had in Madison in the 3+ years we’ve lived here, and we’ve been to most of the big names downtown. Everything we ate (crab cakes, steaks, whipped potatoes, broccoli, pinot noir, CARROT CAKE) was phenomenal. Kaci, our waiter, was an exceptional server and everyone made the meal feel special, intimate, and enjoyable. Perfect atmosphere with an unbeatable view of Lake Monona, low lighting, and comfortable wrap around booths. We will absolutely be back for more delicious food and incredible service.

This is a 3.5 rating.
Had the opportunity to go here twice so far. Nice cocktails and a wine list. The quality of the steak filet is quite high. They are thorough in identifying how you like it prepared – that is so great. Atmosphere is modern clean contemporary style. Bar area has large TVs to bring it down and create a bit more casual dining compared to main formal dining room with white table cloth style. Walleye, risotto, and the filet were the best things we tried. For reference I also included the bill for two – see photos. Overall, nice additional steakhouse option in town. While for me the food and experience was not at the memorable level, waking up and craving one of their dishes level… it’s a nice, fresh place to take friends, dates and company. Enjoy!

Casey, our waiter, was the most knowledgeable waiter I’ve had in Wisconsin. The atmosphere and food was Michelin star quality. The entrees were impeccable. If I were to find any negatives about this place I would say the parking was tough and the Caesar salad was just ok.
The South African lobster was better than any cold water Maine lobster that I’ve ever had… and I’ve had a lot of lobster in my life. The dry aged New York Strips and filet mignons were cooked perfectly to the temperature you ask. When asking for different types of temperatured steak, they even clarify what “medium rare” or “medium” looks like to you. Mediums were described as either a pink warm center or a warm red center, while medium rare was described as warm red center or cold red center. I feel that was very important because every steakhouse has a different definition of what temperatures of steak look like. The smashed potatoes were so decadent.
The logo is also a Picasso drawing of a bull, which was very cool.

My husband and I were able to spend our Valentines dinner here last night- and what an experience it was! Start to finish we were treated beautifully- our server Kaci was truly delightful, gave wonderful suggestions on the menu, and overall made our dinner all the more special. We had the Caesar salad to start, with their delicious cheesy pop overs. For dinner we had the beef Wellington, 18 oz ribeye with a lobster tail, au gratin potatoes, and miso broccoli. My husband had an ale and I had a non alcoholic drink that helped washed everything done beautifully.

Would eat here time and time again- you can tell they care about your dining experience and put passion into the food they are serving you!

We celebrated our civil wedding here about three weeks ago, and chose their private Monona room. The entire process was incredibly smooth, the staff went above and beyond, accommodating every request we had. Micheal, who helped us throughout, was fantastic – he answered all our questions and ensured everything ran without a hitch on the big day. The food absolutely delicious! Some of the food we really enjoyed were the Lollipop lamb chops – perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor – the Maine lobster bisque, velvety with a rich creamy texture, and surprisingly, the mac and cheese – which I’m usually not a big fan of but i absolutely enjoyed it here. It was an unforgettable experience and we couldn’t have asked for a better venue for our celebration. We are super excited to come back for our wedding anniversaries and date nights!

Went with my wife on Valentine’s Day.
Atmosphere is awesome and decor is great.
Cocktails were good and our starters were great.
I ordered aged NY strip with side of marrow dish with carrots and mashed potatoes.
NY strip was cooked well but extremely over-seasoned. The marrow dish was delayed as Keith (who is awesome) noticed when he was about to serve the plate it was lacking in actual marrow. When we finally were served the dish, the potatoes and carrots were so salty it burned the tongue. I choked the steak down but my tongue was raw the next day. I brought this up to Kieth and he noted it but the QC in the kitchen needs help. I’ve never been to a restaurant that over salted a dish so much! We are not picky and we do dine often so this was extremely off putting. Only other issue is my water glass stayed empty for the majority of our dining and I really needed it this time!
The restaurant has tons of potential and I realize it is new and you’re working out your kinks but please watch for this in the future.

We went to One Prime for the first time last night to celebrate an anniversary. Our table was prepared with rose petals and a handwritten card, and the atmosphere was perfect for our meal.

Our server, Ameris, was an absolute gem. We never felt rushed, and her knowledge of high quality food was obvious. She shared recommendations from the menu naturally, and we took her up on many of them. Don’t sleep on the scallops, guys!

The service was like a well choreographed dance, with Ameris and other staff quietly sneaking over to swap out plates, remove clutter, and ensure our drinks were fresh. Our bottle of Malbec was decanted at the table, and my husband’s choice of the Specialty Sour was the star of the show, cocktail-wise.

For the meal, we received a delightful amusebouche of crostini, whipped and pesto’d goat cheese, heirloom tomato and grilled micro green. We had the scallops and lobster appetizers, which both came with perfectly prepared, housemade sauces that complemented the proteins beautifully. The cheesy popover was airy and light, but also cheese-forward.

For our meals, I had the Wagyu ribeye with cognac peppercorn sauce (to die for, yall!). My husband went with the Dover Sole, which was expertly deboned tableside by Ameris, and dressed with a buttery lemon cream. The accompaniments we chose were large enough servings to share. The cream corn was bright and fresh, and the Au Gratin potatoes were the best I’ve ever had.

We took desert to go, choosing the Candy Bar Bomb. It was decadent and very rich, and certainly large enough to split.

The restaurant also gave us complimentary, housemade truffles for our anniversary, which were perfect.

Madison has been lacking an establishment like this. If you’re looking for the epitome of a fine dining experience, go to One Prime. And ask for Ameris!

We did not enjoy our dinner here.
The lobster bisque was brown and served with dehydrated lobster.
The cheese tray had 2 white cheeses, 4 apple slivers, 4 crostinis for $29, The wedge salad came without dressing- it was bland.
The shrimp cocktail was fair- the cocktail sauce was sweet, no spice.
The steaks were delicious. However we were told to change how to order them because they cook them differently- if you like your steak medium, here you need to order medium well bc they under cook the steaks. The sea bass was cooked well and flavorful.
The twice baked potato was dry and not creamy and no flavor. The au gratin potato looked like a potato lasagna and dry no cheese sauce- we had to ask for butter, salt and pepper to try and make the food edible. The smashed potatoes were basically boiled potatoes smothered in a brown sauce. All the sides were bland and not worth the $19-$20 per side.
We sat for a long time without drinks. We had to remind them twice of our drink order. We don’t mind paying a fair price for excellent food and service. Unfortunately the $600 bill for 4 people fell far short.
