Holy Pepperoni | Apizza Joint

Social Profile:

Ashland, meet Apizza (ah-BEETZ): New Haven style pie with thin long fermented sourdough stretched by hand, baked crazy-hot so the edges char, the center still folds, & every bite crackles. We sprinkle it with real mozzarella, finish with fresh pecorino romano, and let the sauce speak for itself. Our cup-and-char pepperoni curls & sizzles, but margherita and sausage + hot cherry peppers hit, too. Dine-in, Delivery & Carry-out for lunch and dinner! Closed on Mondays & Tuesdays.

Maybe today was a fluke? My daughter was told to try it and was excited to try it. But it was disappointing. It is significantly more expensive than other pizza places in the area. Takes over 45 mins to get. I was excited to try the garlic cheese sticks. But only two sticks appeared to have cheese on it and I couldn’t really make out any garlic taste. Pizza was rather bland. Plus, for a place to be called holy pepperoni but have so little pepperoni on the pizza is odd as well. I like the crust. My husband didn’t like any of it. My daughter said that it was ok. I am hoping that we just caught this place on a bad day. But we have so many other pizza places that I am uncertain if we will try this again. It is out of the way, more expensive, takes longer, and not particularly special. This was a bummer.

Ok, let’s be fair. This is absolutely not New Haven style pizza. It’s floppy, not crispy, and there’s no char. But, it’s a pretty solid New York style pie. If you’re expecting a Sally’s, Modern, or Frank Pepe pie, you’re going to be disappointed. However, if you’re after that slice you had right off Times Square, you’re golden.

The eat in experience is lacking. No real plates or silverware, no service, order at the counter. Also, there’s no music so prepare to whisper.

Holy Pepperoni is absolutely amazing! The pizza was fresh, flavorful, and easily some of the best I’ve had in a long time. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. If you’re craving great pizza with great service, this is the place to go! And the Cannolis ‍

Pizza is ok, lots of flop, oily.
The dough is a sourdough and has good flavor.
Salads are overpriced. It was spring mix from Wal-Mart with cherry tomatoes. There was no spinach in the salad as advertised.
Wings are oven baked, we did not enjoy them.
Ingredients seemed fresh on the pizzas. May try it again in a couple months.

Missed a 5 star review because first impressions matter. Flavor… exceptional. Crust… wonderful and different from all the other options in town. Delivery service was quick, but maybe a little too quick. That said, looking forward to my next pie.

We stopped in for first visit at lunch time and found the lunch combo options to have great variety and good pricing. Portion size was perfect for lunch. The pizza was crisp thin crust, with flavorful toppings. But, be aware, if you are looking for more typical “pizza-by-the-pound” quantities delivered by the big chains, that’s not what these guys are aiming for. The eat-in area is small, but adequate, with fun art to look at. I docked the grade for “atmosphere” only because it felt chilly, rather than cozy, and the furniture is just wireframe patio stuff; not comfy.

This is a new place in Ashland. There’s a few tables for you to eat in or you can order take out.
The lady was friendly when we first walked in. Gave us the run down in how we order. She brought us plates and silverware. We got the spinach dip and a large pepperoni pizza. The dip was very good. The pizza was fantastic. Thinner crust, charred just like the website explained. The flavor was great, the crunch of the crust was perfect. We will definitely return to try other pizzas and sub.

First time trying it. Was not the greatest. The garlic cheese bread had like no cheese on it. Much more the flavor lacked tasted like bread and plain oil nothing garlic nor salty or any kind of seasoning. The staff tried to make it right by giving a free dessert. Which was greatly appreciated. However the cannoli was bland and over cooked as well. It wasn’t even sweet just had a cold pasty texture kind of tasted like a flour mixture or something needs sugar and flavor. Pizza itself was decent not the worse I’ve had not the best. I got the meat lovers. For the price you pay. Its not worth it for the lack of flavor/ seasoning.

⚠️WARNING, MOST LOW RATINGS ARE FROM PEOPLE WITH LOW READING COMPREHENSION, ITS GOOD PIZZA.
They say everywhere what type of pizza they make, just read.

The pizza is phenomenal, the crust is thin but not too thin, and is both perfectly crispy and chewy with a nice smokey char.

I love both the cheese blend and sauce, which is hard to come by, its very flavorful and robust. I did get extra cheese as the style is usually lighter on cheese, and I like cheese, what can i say ‍♂️

My favorite pizza is new york style, and barely anyone around here makes it. This pizza scratches that itch and then some, its definitely a new favorite style.

The style might not be for everyone, but its definitely worth a try.
