Growing up, we always preferred Moby Dicks. Today we thought to give Coney Island a shot as I’ve heard ownership changed at Moby’s years ago and it hasn’t been the same since.

No shade to Moby’s but Coney Island is surprisingly impressive. We bought one order of Cod from both Moby’s and Coney Island just to compare both.

Moby’s: seems like 1 large filet cut into 4. Batter is lighter but somehow significantly greasier. Oil just coats your fingers and drips all over the cardboard. Meat was mushy sadly. Honestly it’s always tasted this way and I just thought it was the norm.

Coney Island: one large filet, in a thicker batter but not greasy at all actually. It was cooked perfectly. Crust was way more satisfying, crunchy exterior but a bit soft and chewy inside. The meat wasn’t greasy at all actually, the cook took time to rest it in the basket before serving it, I think it truly made a big difference. The meat was cleaner tasting, more dense, not mushy at all. The batter-to-fish ratio was surprisingly way better than Moby’s.

Fries were solid.

Truly impressive. Fish n chips tend to sit in my stomach and make me feel nauseas. This one didn’t at all. Will recommend to others. Hopefully the owner doesn’t change a thing. Well done. Fair value. $22 for One piece combo is a good snack for 2. The best I’ve had.

I went there on January 2, 2026, and wow the food was absolutely delicious . The pricing was really good for the quality and the generous portions.
I ordered the fish burger and a fish and chips, and both were amazing. The piece of fish was huge, perfectly cooked, and the flavor was exquisite. Everything tasted fresh and well prepared.
I also had the hot chocolate, and the size was enormous! What I loved the most is that it wasn’t overly sweet at all it was perfectly balanced and very comforting.
The service was polite and friendly, which made the whole experience even better. I’d definitely go back and highly recommend this place if you’re craving great fish and chips!

“Easily the best fish and chips in town, and they have the awards to prove it! The value for your money here is outstanding.
The food came out super hot and fresh straight off the fryer. A huge plus is the $2.95 large tartar sauce—it’s an amazing deal and the perfect pairing for the meal.
Beyond the food, the staff is very nice and provided excellent customer service. If you’re in White Rock, this is a must-stop!”

Great Fish & Chips with Room to Grow

Coney Island Fish and Chips in White Rock delivers what it promises—crispy, satisfying fish and chips in a nostalgic seaside setting. We ordered a classic combo of fish, chips, and calamari. The chips were spot-on—crispy on the outside, fluffy inside, and the fish was perfectly fried, though I personally would’ve preferred a slightly thicker cut. The calamari, unfortunately, leaned on the greasier side, and could benefit from a lighter touch in the fryer.

Customer service was efficient but quite dry, lacking the warmth or engagement that could elevate the overall experience. There is a modest outdoor seating area next to the shop, though the food might be best enjoyed at the beach nearby.

At $41 for three pieces of fish, the price felt a little steep, but the quality does help justify the occasional splurge. That said, an interior refresh would go a long way—some vintage elements are charming, but other dated fixtures could use a fresh coat of paint or a more thoughtful update. With just a bit more hospitality and atmosphere, this spot could become a standout destination along the White Rock strip.

All in all, a solid fish and chips experience, and worth a return visit.

A nice gem on the east beach of white rock strip The staff was super friendly and accommodating The portions were a great size! The batter was super fresh and crispy The fries were made in house and the best fries I’ve had in awhile.
I knew what I wanted, so I didn’t peruse the menu. It is a simple menu but that is a good thing, means they can make it all to perfection
The seating is only outside, but you have the whole beautiful beach right across the road, so take it to go and enjoy the beach ⛱️
Parking is all across the road but that’s okay I recommend going down and giving Coney Island a try.

The food was so good, probably the best fish and chips I have had. The fries were very crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It had a buttery taste to them and they stayed fresh for a long time and did not go stale. The fish batter was perfect, glass like crunch, nice golden color that gives a nice flavor, not too thick and not too thin. The Cod fish was also perfectly cooked, still moist and so soft and flakey. You can tell the fish is very fresh, loads of flavor. Also the size of the fish was massive and the fries portion is very big. This location does not have inside seating but does have a limited amount of outdoor seating. The owner said he has been at that location since around 1990 and you can really tell he has his craft perfected. Highly recommend this place to try.

This is my second choice for fish and chips after the other famous fish and chips restaurant in White Rock. Good taste of fish and chips, great service and they give you big portion of food. We had that good fish and chips, calamari and hubby got cheese burger.

Usually my favourite place to get fish n chips, but last two times halibut has been overcooked and dry. I specifically mentioned this when I made my phone order today and asked to please not overcook it.
Again it was overcooked and dry.
Like eating sawdust.
Inedible.
Waste of 36 bucks.

Disappointing

You can see how dry the fish is in the second picture especially.

Around last year I came here and forgot to leave a review. They were just at closing time for their daughters birthday and was quite late, and the owners were kind enough to whip me up my 1pc box to go, since then I hadn’t lived close enough to come back, my partner and I came back here after a hospital visit, I was just having crazy pregnancy cravings for fish, and my partner chips , I had forgotten the size of their fish the first time around and was going to order the 2pc, but good thing I didn’t because it was a huge size of fish, freshly made in-front of our eyes and was the perfect crisp and softness on the inside, I couldn’t even finish half of it, my partner and I shared the fries but he got full off the fries right away as well. Their portions are amazingly big, amazingly fresh, and have a perfect crunch, and the tartar sauce was just as yummy and creamy, such a big size when you usually get a small cup of tartar sauce anywhere else, and fulfilled those pregnancy cravings I had so bad, we sat in-front of their store where they have tables to sit and eat, my partner and I enjoyed our day even more after eating here, we found a new spot we love to come too, love the way the owners treat their customers, love the way they cook their food in front of us, and love the portions, i’d say they are the best Fish and Chips restaurant in White rock. When I get those cravings again, I will be only coming here from now on, would love to see this shop here have more customers
