Here at Mercato, we are inspired by the meaning of our name, “market.” In Italy, locals gather to their nearest market, or Mercato, to experience firsthand the variety, freshness and quality the local ingredients have to offer. The market allows for everyone to gather together, indulge and become part of a community. Each dish is prepared to order and delicately created with the influence of American and Italian cuisine alike. From pastas and flatbreads to savory entrees and the unique Chef specials, we aim to offer an abundance of variety to our customers. Our mission is to create an environment where everyone feels right at home because most importantly, we are a family! So from our family to yours, WELCOME!

When we arrived, the space was an unsealed outdoor tent — during freezing, windy conditions. Snow was coming in along the sides, and the heaters (placed high above) did little to warm guests seated below. We were told we could not move inside due to reservations.
I will say the penne allá vodka was good, and Pam, our server, was attentive and professional throughout the evening.
However, winter in New York is not unexpected. If large parties are being booked in an outdoor space — especially after a week of heavy snow — proper preparation should already be in place. The tent should have been sealed and heating positioned effectively to make the space reasonably comfortable.
After concerns were raised to management about the conditions, a discount was provided, which we appreciate. That said, accommodations should not have required escalation in the first place.
When a higher-up stated, “I can’t control the weather,” that may be true — but preparation and guest placement are within your control.
Seating 20 guests in those conditions was not appropriate.
The restaurant later stated that colder weather was forecasted and that extra heaters were ordered, which confirms they knew conditions would be extreme!!!!. When we raised concerns, the manager was dismissive and said he “can’t control the weather,” instead of taking responsibility for seating guests outside in unsafe conditions. Knowing this, it’s hard to understand why a private event was still hosted outdoors in February!!!!
When we asked to move inside, we were told it wasn’t possible due to reservations, despite visible open tables. No meaningful alternatives (partial seating, reschedule, or refund) were offered — only a discount after we already been outside for two hours in the cold!!! We booked far in advance and paid ahead, yet were denied an indoor accommodation.
While management says they “did their best,” this felt like poor judgment and lack of accountability. A private event should be enjoyable, not physically uncomfortable. In February, this setup is unacceptable. The lack of care from management completely ruined what should have been a special event.
They refused to let us sit indoors and insisted we stay outside the entire time. There were four heaters placed near the ceiling, which did absolutely nothing since heat rises. We were freezing all night, completely uncomfortable, and it felt unsafe given how cold it was.
What made it worse was the lack of concern from the staff. No effort was made to accommodate us or improve the situation until one of my friends finally spoke up. Customers should not have to beg to be treated with basic consideration, especially in extreme weather conditions.
This was an unacceptable way to treat paying customers. I will not be returning.
The plate was so comically oversized I briefly considered licking it for extra calories, but the waiter assured me the ceramic was not gluten-free and carried an upcharge.
By the end I was still hungry, slightly poorer, and convinced the chef’s true masterpiece was the void—both on the plate and in my soul. To say I was embarrassed and we were both disappointed is an understatement.
Recommend you giving it a try, you WILL NOT be disappointed.
What truly sets Mercato apart is the consistency and care that goes into every visit. You can tell the team genuinely takes pride in what they do — from the beautifully prepared dishes to the warm, welcoming atmosphere the moment you walk through the door. It’s the kind of place where you can celebrate a special occasion or just stop in for a cozy, relaxed meal and leave feeling happy you chose it.
In a time when great service and quality can be hard to find, Mercato continues to deliver both effortlessly. It’s a neighborhood gem that deserves every bit of support and recognition. Highly recommend to anyone looking for amazing food, friendly faces, and an all-around wonderful dining experience!
