Our story starts in our own backyard where we hosted friends and family, weekend after weekend, for an entire summer trying to perfect our barbeque style. Being a physicist by education, Bob loved the science of smoking meat, and it eventually became a passion. Bob is self-taught by studying pit-master processes from all over the country.

Great BBQ, we just catered our company luncheon from here. I love the Brisker, pulled pork, cheesy potatoes and cornbread. It’s all good, sauces are pretty amazing too.

My husband and I decided to try Bob’s Backyard Barbecue, but we were disappointed. The food was just mediocre; the brisket didn’t seem authentic and tasted more like smoked beef. While it was cooked well, the standout features were the sauces—the CiCi’s sauce and the sweet and spicy varieties were quite good. Unfortunately, the mac and cheese lacked flavor, tasting like just noodles with American cheese. The best item we had was the loaded tots. I also ordered the Reuben sandwich, which was supposed to come with coleslaw and onions, but it arrived with nothing but meat. I only realized this after getting home, so I let it go. Overall, I don’t think we’ll return or recommend it to friends and family. On a positive note, the location is nice, featuring picnic tables for outdoor dining and direct access to the Combustion Brewery.

Decided to head out and check out Bob’s Backyard Bar-B-Q in Pickerington. They do all their smoking with apple wood to give a nice smooth taste to the meat. This is a different version of the Lancaster business. Very stylish interior with a lot of wood used. Lighting is very cool. Plans are for them to have a liquor license soon.On to the important stuff, the food. I ordered the Dressed Up Pulled Pork Sandwich, Mac N Cheese, Baked Beans and Cheesy Potatoes. The sandwich had good amount of pork on it, fried onions added a big difference to the sandwich. The sauce that they use for it is homemade as all their sauces are. The Mac and cheese was a baked version which had a nice cheesy flavor. The Baked Beans were made with cinnamon which typically places go overboard with, this was just a light touch. On to Cheesy Potatoes, they were made perfectly, using a riced potatoes and a nice blend of cheese, baked to perfection. Crazy as it be the star of the show was something they give you for FREE at the beginning of the meal which was a sort of oyster crackers that are buttery with seasoning on them. Yummmy!!! Now on to service. My waitress was Kendall, she was amazing, checking on me and giving refills on my drink. A special treat was that I got to sit down and talk with Jared the Manager for a bit. He told me a lot of the background of the business. So cool to hear a lot of the back stories to businesses. Then if things weren’t good enough already. Bob the owner shows up and comes in and I was able to chat with him for a few minutes. This is a very new restaurant and everyone should come out and check it out.

Very interesting experience. It’s hard when you have to be critical of a local business but I am very confused and disappointed by the food here. I got a 0.5 lb of brisket, Mac and cheese, and extra side of Cole slaw. I guess when I hear BBQ I think smoked meats, but this was very much like crockpot meat, very flavorless, and dry. The Mac and cheese was noodles with small chunks of cheese, no seasoning. They initially forgot my Cole slaw as pic shows, so that would have been disappointing had I eaten to-go. Sorry Bob, just wasn’t a W for me.

Food was delicious and fast. Tried the sweet and spicy sauce with the wings. Thought it was pretty tasty.

Food was good. Salad was crispy, and dressing tasted well. For the salad, th dressing was the right amount for the servings. The wings were fresh, had a little more dry rub seasoning than I like but this is only preference. I am rating this lower due to the advertisement of food. I Door Dashed the order which showed fries. The price was high so I assumed the fries were included. When it arrived the fries were no where to be found.

In summary: good food but read the fine print when ordering

I LOVE BBQ! Its one of my favorite things. But the term backyard in the name is eluding to the delicious backyard BBQs that are hosted and they have someone actually smoking and dare I say barbequeing the meat! Bob needs to re-address the name and the type of restaurant he wants to be, because quality BBQ is NOT it. Maybe a birdbath store, or one of those places that sell the leather stuff, thats more on par with the quality of meat here. In addition to inconsistent hours, and not being open when they say they are, the service is lacking and again, the food is rough….just take a looksy at the pics others have posted in their reviews. If you are in pickerington and want REAL quality BBQ….you will not find it here….go to Smokeout BBQ 1850 Winderly Ln, Pickerington, OH 43147. I assure you that you will not regret it.

The food was delicious when it came. We went when it was busy, so understandable it took longer, but still had to wait a bit. When we got it though, 5 stars. Amazing food. We got the brisket, cheesy potatoes and Cole slaw, I could eat that all day every day! Give it try!!

Went on opening weekend and left after waiting an hour to put in our food and drink order, then over an hour and an half after that for food that never came. Pregnant wife wasn’t waiting any longer to eat so we left with one drink, no refills and no food after 2.5 hours. Revisited to try their carryout since we heard they got their stuff together. They forgot to give us the buns somehow after specifically asked for extra since we had family over. Mac and Cheese had a sour taste like it was spoiled. Brisket is just roast beef. Neither that nor the pork was seasoned or had a smokey flavor. Homemade sauces weren’t great either. Best thing was their cheesy potatoes and they were just very average. Highly recommend SmokeOut BBQ instead.

For my Lunch I ordered the half pound of brisket, baked beans and coleslaw. The brisket is not smoked it was very dry and bland, each BBQ sauce on the table tasted odd.the beans were oddly sweet and the slaw was not very good. The worst part was the starters.. we had the deviled eggs. This is where I walked out of the restaurant to spit and toss the horrible egg in the street. Which I quickly returned and warned my family not to eat. Unfortunately I will not be returning to this local spot. I 100% believe there is nothing fresh in this restaurant. I believe the beans and the brisket came out of a can. Dine at your own risk!
