Love to meet here for happy hour and for Browns games. Hey, might even see a wins some day. A real Cleveland bar, not complicated. Great place for beers and burgers. Fun place for chill folk. Bartenders are aces.

Friendly service, better than expected food. Can’t really expect more from a tavern. Sweet potato fries were as good as they come

If I have to come up with something constructive for the owner, it would be that the bathroom deodorizer smell is so strong it reaches out to the few tables nearby.

Stopped into Dover Tavern on a busy Browns night, fully expecting a packed house and maybe slower service. What we did NOT expect was rudeness, disorganization, and outright hostility from the staff. After having this experience, I went back and read other negative reviews — and honestly, I’m amazed these issues still haven’t been addressed.

Here’s what happened:
• It took 25 minutes before anyone even approached our table. We politely asked to order drinks and appetizers. The bartender told us he couldn’t take appetizer orders because they were too busy, and only wanted to take drink orders.
• When we were finally allowed to order appetizers, he commented that we ordered “too many appetizers” and that he would have to delay our food order because the kitchen couldn’t handle it. At this point, we still didn’t have drinks.
• We ordered White Russians, which were served in full pint glasses, poorly mixed, with the wrong proportions — not even close to the basic standard for this cocktail. Our bartender didn’t know how to make it, admitted that, and just poured random ingredients until it filled a glass.
• Then, a female bartender took over. Instead of bringing professionalism, she brought attitude. She walked back to the bar and loudly complained about us to other staff — within clear earshot of multiple customers, calling us rude and “difficult,” despite us simply ordering food and drinks like normal paying customers.
• The appetizers that did arrive were greasy, poorly prepared, and barely edible. At that point, I walked up to the bartender and said, “If we’re so difficult, we’ll cancel the rest and leave.” She immediately replied, “Great, give me your card and I’ll cash you out now.”

No apology. No courtesy. Nothing.

What makes this worse:
After leaving, I went back and read the recent negative reviews — and almost all of them mention the same exact issues we experienced:

✔ Incredibly slow service
✔ Bartenders with attitude
✔ Rude or dismissive communication
✔ Food quality inconsistent at best
✔ Staff openly complaining about customers

So clearly, this wasn’t an unlucky night — it’s a pattern.

Dover Tavern:
We came in excited to support a local spot, left shocked by the disrespect, and now understand why so many others warned us.

Won’t return.

Worst local restaurant in Westlake by far. Food was not good and over priced for the tiny portions they would give. Even apple bees a massive chain has way better food than this place. The staff was very rude to our party of 5 and by the way they handle us makes it seem like they can at make only handle 1 or 2 people tables. Server was incredible rude and would left us mid order.

Great service. And I’m probably more excited than I should be that they offer a veggie basket as an appetizer. The veggie basket is fantastic, It has carrots, celery, red peppers, cucumbers, and a heap of large green olives. The veggie basket and wings are a definite goto option for when we eat here.

Hadn’t been here in years. My folks used to bring me here when I was a kid. Much cleaner and nicer than it was back in the early 80s! The food was really good! Wish I woulda taken a picture! The only thing they need is some pinball and video games like they had when I was a kid!

I’ve heard the wings are good. Went in had a drink and ordered some to go, got home and realized they ‘forgot’ to sauce half of them… not happy. So price on these negative. And sauce on these negative.

I can’t believe that I’ve never left a review of this place.

The Gardens/Dover Dive/whatever you call this just about as good as you can get when it comes to a legacy bar; there is a long history, good food and, an outstanding staff.

One of the best cheeseburgers that I have ever had. The outside seating is perfect on a nice day. My kids and my wife loved their meal as well.

All of the portions are large and the prices are affordable. I will definitely be back when I’m in the area!
