If I could call this, the worst culinary experience of my life ever, I would. First and foremost, we were asked to pay for the order even before it arrived stating that it was their closing time — no hospitality or restaurant business has the right to ask for pre payment. Secondly, the manager or the person in charge was straight away disrespectful right from the start to the end. He shoved the food on the table, didn’t even bother to bring them one by one- they brought all the food together and dumped it on the table. Coming to the food, horrible is the word. I would never personally call food horrible but this was the most obnoxious food experience. They just dumped all foods from India on the menu, they do not know what goes in recipe, their menu says something and they bring something else on your table. The meat in the biryani ( which wasn’t biryani but a curry mixed with rice and spice powder) was straight up RAW, uncooked hard meat. The tandoori chicken was nothing “tandoor” but boiled chicken dumped on a bed of vegetables. The Mirch ka salan was nothing to do with Mirch but potatoes in a bland paste like gravy. All in all, would never bother to eat here again or eat Indian food outside after this episode of bad experience. If you do not want to waste your time, your money and spoil your tastebuds and mood- do not visit this restaurant and do not be fooled by their reviews. Nobody at the restaurant is gonna bother about your review anyway, so this is for people who check reviews before trying out a place- DO NOT GO HERE! Save your money and time and go somewhere else!

Great food, I loved it. My 5 year loved actually said “this food is good”. Nice people and good service.

Very disappointed with my experience at Cumin India Restaurant. Right from the start, the service felt uncomfortable—the server gave judgy looks rather than a welcoming vibe, which immediately set a negative tone.
The food was equally underwhelming. The baby corn Manchurian was over-fried, completely losing its texture and taste. The noodles were extremely bland—no sauce, no salt, and absolutely no flavor. The dal makhani had no hint of makhan or richness that the dish is known for.
Overall, it was a poor experience both in terms of service and food quality. Unfortunately, this is not a place I’d return to.

They use readmade paste for Chicken Tikka Masala and no repected “indian” will ever eat this concocted paste. The chilli chicken which is supposed to be a staple in indian diet is solid as a rock. There is something called “marination” to make it tender. They do not do it. Please avoid this one star restaurant. I am surprised they are still in business.

Best mango lassi I’ve ever had! Love the friendly staff and wide variety of Indian and Indo-Chinese food. Lots of gluten free options and food can be prepared at any spice level. Wonderful restaurant!

My husband and I enjoyed our meals. This was our very first time trying their cuisine and we were very pleased. We were referred to the restaurant by our friends. Definitely will come again. Great service too!

We ordered a vegetarian meal for four. The service was excellent, the food was incredibly good, and the mango lassi was outstanding. Portions were generous and everything came out quickly. We’re definitely keeping this place on our list for future visits.

This is the type of food you would expect from a good Indian food restaurant. You have typical common dishes, lots of vegetarian choices, general awareness to food allergies, etc. The staff was super attentive, kept our waters filled the whole time, and food was fresh. There were lots of Naan bread flavors, food was hot and fresh when appropriate. Their buffet is no longer in service and serves as a packing station which is used for take out and leftovers. The location in Hamden is nothing special. The yellow napkins added color to an otherwise dark restaurant motif. I’d easily order takeout or come back here again when in the area. Come here for the yummy food and leave with a full belly.

My first time having Indian food and it will not be the last. We ordered the curry lamb and the Tikka masala lamp. The flavor was excellent. I personally recommend the Tikka masala for the flavor although the lamb was more tender on the curry dish. The rice was flavorful. We also had the dahi papri for an appetizer excellent choice with the garlic naan bead. The place is authentic. The only thing I wish would have been different is that they had no music playing. I would have loved some Indian music to bring the complete the experience. Overall I highly recommend this restaurant.
