It was a beautiful day. 3rd of August. I’m always ready for an adventure, so I decided on Randy’s Roadside BBQ. The drive there was nice. it would have been better on a motorcycle or in a convertible. The windows down did fine. As I approached Randy’s, I was surprised by the glam of the artwork everywhere. Parking was not a problem. The place was packed with happy people eating delicious BBQ. I decided on the sampler platter. With slaw and baked beans as my sides. Chopped brisket, chopped smoked chicken, and 3 meaty ribs.. i also ordered 6 smoked wings. Wings sold separately for $2.00 each. 6 were plenty, and the house ranch is amazing .
The ribs were good smoked. Not that boiled then grilled fake fall off the bone. No, sir, these are smoked the way they should be. Bite marks and the rings. Brisket was over chopped for my liking but still very good. Just wanted bigger slices. The chicken was a bit dry and not much seasoning. The sauce helped out. Baked beans were plain and out of the can vibe. I’m not a fan, but that’s only my opinion. The slaw. It was good. Different from ordinary slaw. Sauce on the side and extra sauce I recommend..
Fudge shop next door has pops and homemade fudge.. Regular fudge. Fudge with walnuts and maple with walnuts.
There are plenty of places to sit outside, or you can sit in your car or take it to go. There’s a stage outside that had live music the day I visited. I was impressed with the whole adventure. The drive there. The atmosphere. The vibe. The food.
Take the adventure and make your own opinion. Have fun
Hasta.

We ordered the thanksgiving feast. The turkey and pork were good so I give it 2 stars. Pick up was scheduled for 3. My hubby was there just before 3 and waited till almost 4:30 before food was given. Cars came after him and left with food before him. Got home and food was missing, no green bean casserole or sweet potatoes. The mashed potatoes were instant and not smashed like the ad claimed. I did reach out over the missing food and the lady offered to make it right with a compensated meal of my choosing. I am grateful for this option but will not do a feast type thru them again.

Excellent bbq!!! We drive 45 minutes away. Worth the trip…

It’s a little roadside place. But the best bbq around.

Unless you go out to Kansas City, which it’s not any better out there, this is the best in the Midwest!!!

Randy’s BBQ, US12, a ghost from a different time. The last time I was here, my dad was still alive. Today, I brought my own son, who is the same age I was the first time my dad took me here. Back then it was just the trailer. The prices have climbed, and our visits tapered off, but on a whim, we walked back into that memory.
What a revelation. The sheer weight of the box, a promise of excess in a world of meager portions. I wish to hell I’d asked the price on those “smashboxes,” but it’s been a long, miserable while since I tasted anything so profoundly right.
They’ve made changes, and the whole place has an aesthetic. Not some sterile, corporate vibe, but something authentic. You’re eating in a sanctuary, a derelict park where the beauty is found in the broken, honest details. The food was so much, my son didn’t know what to do with it all.
You’d be a damn fool to drive past. It’s worth the detour, worth the price, worth the quiet, melancholic ache of a memory revived. Maybe it hasn’t been on some television show or maybe it has idk, It has a vibe, alright. A glorious, gut-busting, profoundly human vibe. torn on this review… Not a fan of the cost but it is good food but last time I had some it was cold and they also were out of items. It’s a good stop for food tho if you haven’t eaten after a long drive and it’s just right off the road and fast. Usually has a few people there

We stopped while out on a bike ride one day an I was not disappointed. Had a nice area to sit an enjoy our meal of ribs an baked beans an Mac n cheese. Will definitely be stopping again. Amazing food an even more amazing staff. We even had a nice little walk to the haunted house being set up next door to stretch our legs.

This spot is amazing! Come here if you can, definitely worth the trip. These are the hillbilly fries without the sweet potato fries, and taking those off my meal is my only regret. The sauce has a very mild but constant heat, fries were crispy, beans didn’t turn to mush, and the slaw had a nice tang to it. Will definitely be back.

Best BBQ, hands down, and I’d fight you on that! I found Randy’s maybe 20+ years ago while engaged in the world’s longest garage sale on US12. We passed it and noted that we absolutely had to stop at the place that smelled like BBQ heaven. I was young, and at the time didn’t know about the pink smoke ring on the chicken after smoking. We didn’t care if it killed us, we were finishing it. In garage sale mode, I offered to buy an entire pan of the cornbread, at a discount and took it home to share with everyone I knew. I live quite far, but we would drive out to Adrian when they had there brick and mortar, and would occasionally stop when hitting up Devil’s Lake. Now my son has been relocated to Hillsdale, and I look forward not only to his visit, but that his drive takes him right past their place and he will be able to bring it back to Mom now and then. If only I could get my other son and his family to move out there, we’d be golden. Yes, it’s worth moving. Thanks Randy, wherever you are!

Just traveling through. Though I wasn’t able to try the hush puppies because the fryer was down for cleaning, I got the most delicious pulled pork sandwich that made up for it. I also love the covered bridge and fun items all around great for photo ops. Just a fun yummy little stop. If you’re in the area, highly recommend stopping.
